CACHE LOGS - May contain hints(spoilers)!   decode

I found it! 05 Nov 2010    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

Found this new placement by accident. I was in the park looking for another NC, when I saw an irresistable beacon. I walked up and saw a suspicious pile of bark in the beacon. One side of the container peeked out between the bark. I was pleased, but then discovered that it was actually a rusty old coffee can. Not a cache, but a decoy. Burned! As I walked away, I saw a nice oak log, with a birch log jammed up against it. That had to be the cache. It was a cache alright, but I recognized my own handwriting in the log book. I was really confused until I realized that this was the traveling cache. At least this decoy is loggable. As always, thanks for the excellent cache!

I found it! 15 Oct 2010    Lone Lake Park 6  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Chilly this morning as I popped into the park to grab this cache. I walked in along the limestone trail and cut across straight uphill to the cache. I followed a series of deer trails on the way out. There was frost on the ground and I was the only person in the area. Very cool. TFTC!

I found it! 15 Oct 2010    Bikeathon - Tunnel  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

I went after this during my lunch break with gcer aprice14. We walked from Burger King and enjoyed the warm October weather. We are going to miss lunch walks once the snow starts to fly. Make the most of the fall while we can. We found the tunnel and knew we were close. Aha! TFTC!

I found it! 15 Oct 2010    Bikeathon - Wall  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Clever hide. The name had me fixated on one beacon and some nearby leafy beacons held me attention as well. I gave it one last ditch effort before we had to turn back for work. I followed a hunch and had the cache in hand. I believe this is the first hide like this that ive found. TFTC!

I found it! 14 Oct 2010    Jidana 2  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

Cache is in good shape and I dropped off a geocoin for the next finder. Found a cool kid fort nearby made of branches, mud, and marsh weeds. Pretty big. I remember those days... TFTC!

I found it! 12 Oct 2010    Bikeathon - Bridge  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

I had stopped by here earlier this summer, but DNFed. I cant believe I had missed this one. When I looked for it today, I started searching in the same area, but then I remembered I had neglected one side of the trail. So I switched sides and found it right away. Effective hide. TFTC!

I found it! 12 Oct 2010    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

I love looking for this cache and I love this park. The leaves are changing and the weeds are starting to die, which makes cutting across fields easier. Fall really is the best time to cache. Nice hide with this placement, off the beaten path. The beacon is scorched on one side. I wonder if there was once a prairie fire? TFTC!

I found it! 05 Oct 2010    The Cottagewood General Store  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

The store wasnt busy today at lunch. Worked out the coords alright, but had some trouble at GZ. I was in the middle of a clearing, with the nearest beacons over fifty feet away. I trust rickrichs coors and figured my calculations were off. I didnt trust my second animal, and was working out the solution with a different second animal, when I noticed that my math skills for the first animal were off. I wont tell you which digit, but lets just say it pays to double check your math. Found it no problem. Thanks for the fun multi stage!

I found it! 21 Sept 2010    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

Ive been keeping my eye on this one, waiting for someone to move it. Luckily, someone on GC relocated it, so I went after it today after work. I just got a new job in the area, so hopefully I can keep revisiting it as it moves around the park. I like the new placement, doesnt require a whole lot of bush whacking and nicely hidden. TFTC!

I found it! 17 Jun 2010    yellow jeep fever  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

This is a fun locationless that drove me nuts. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for yellow jeeps for months, and whenever I'd see one, I was without a GPS or a camera. I got really excited to find one in a car lot in Grand Rapids over the Memorial Weekend, but when I went to log the cache, I saw that car lot photos didn't count. Back to square one. The other day, I was rollerblading home from work through Dinkytown, and I saw an older, faded yellow jeep. But I didn't have a camera with. So the next few days, I took extended detours through Dinkytown on my way to and from work, hoping to see the faded yellow jeep again. No luck. Well, guess what was waiting for me when I pulled up to my usual parking space in Dinkytown today? A different, newer, yellow jeep! It was like the caching gods smiled on me. It was like a present! Finally, I took the coords and photos needed to log this cache.

I found it! 12 Jun 2010    Elm Creek Homestead  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Found this at the site of the old farmstead. A tree is slowly devouring an old clothesline post. Very cool. Had to fight off a swarm of mosquitoes to get here. TFTC!

I found it! 20 May 2010    Traveling thru Purgatory  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

What a fun cache. I was excited to learn that one of the few remaining moving caches happened to be in my backyard and not half-way across the globe. This is a really well-thought out moving cache. I appreciate that it has to stay within the park. When we first looked for this, we must've entered the coords wrong, because it took us out of the park and GZ appeared to be in a swamp in someone's back yard. I know we double checked the coords. Today, I entered the coords and had no problem. Go figure. Found the cache no problem, the area slightly singed by a recent controlled burn. I moved the cache to a new spot and marked the coords. There's an odd, large pencil-like figure afixed to a tree near the new final. I marked the new coords in Stage 1. I hope people keep moving it, it'd be fun to look for it again. TFTC!

I found it! 04 May 2010    Tree of Life  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

FTF!! I check the New Caches page once in a while and was pleased to see a new cache had sprung up in New Brighton. I had to get it! Took my two daughters for a walk in this familiar park. The weather was warm, sunny, and breezy, an excellent day to play in the park. That's a nice big beacon. The water lapped the shore just a few feet away. Nice spot! Thank you for placing this navicache!

I found it! 30 Apr 2010    The Pancake  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I'll chime in with a notable breakfast joint that serves some pretty mean pancakes. Al's Breakfast is a Minneapolis institution. It's the smallest, most unique greasy spoon I've ever seen. It has won some awards and was featured on the show, Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins. It's located at:

N44 58.862
W093 14.132

and it's in Dinkytown, a small bohemian college community north of the University of Minnesota. The restaurant has been there since the 60's and hasn't changed since. It's about ten feet wide and only has seating at one long counter. The cook flips jacks right in front of you (you can see the cook in one of my pics) and barks orders back and forth with the servers. An order of two eggs, spinach, apsaragus, and toast with hollondaise, for example, is called something like a "Paul's special." They have odd names for everything. I had a blueberry short stack with sausage and coffee. The pancakes were great. Most places have big, fluffy, pancakes, but these were dense and thin, like how I make them at home or when I'm camping. The syrup was natural maple syrup and not that fructose syruppy kind. The wall opposite the counter is adorned with foreign currency, sketches made by customers, and knickknacks. Most of the silverware and cups and mugs don't match. Below the cubboards are little books with customers' names on them. Customers can purchase a book and debit meals (a sort of tab system). Some of the books are over twenty years old. They're scattered on shelves labeled "A-F" for example. You can see them and the currency behind me in the picture. Very fun restaurant that I thought I'd share for travellers or Twin Cities residents. Thanks for the delicious cache!

I found it! 26 Apr 2010    Birdcam!  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1 )

Woo hoo! First to "find!" I thought this was a terribly clever webcam cache and had been checking on the bird house every so often for the last several months, thinking some birds might make use of it since spring was approaching. But nothing. Empty box every time. I just happened to check today, and lo and behold, baby chicks! What a surprise! Looks like there are quite a few in there. Their beaks are visually distinctive. I watched as one chirped. Very cool. Thank you for the fun and inventive cache!

I found it! 17 Apr 2010    Bikeathon - Marsh  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

Found on a beautiful sunny spring day with my two year old daughter in tow. Nice hide, container's in great shape with a healthy amount of swag inside. I appreciated that the disclaimer note referenced both GC and NC. Thank you for cross listing with NC!

I found it! 17 Apr 2010    Bikeathon - Curves  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Trail is indeed curvy here. Found this quickly as I'm familiar with the hide technique. Stroller friendly! The log sheet is full and someone added their own paper, which makes replacing the log into the container difficult. Thank you for cross listing with NC and TFTC!

I found it! 17 Apr 2010    Minnetonka History Cache  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

First to "Find?" Started off a day of Navicaching with my two year old daughter at this excellent virtual. Neat location and some fun bit of history. I like history. I would've driven past this and not have noticed the park. That's geocaching for you! I always assume that urban sprawl is the start to any suburb and forget that a region may have a deeper history than the more recent sprawl. This location is an example of a hidden gem amongst the McMansions. Thanks for the fun virtual!

I found it! 16 Apr 2010    Bikeathon - Goose Attack  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1 )

This was the trickiest hide of the day. Some nearby homeowners were burning brush on their property (even though a burning ban is in effect, yikes!) and I didn't want to look too suspicious. I crawled all around and under the beacon, and no luck. The coords were dead on, however, and when I saw the nano magnets, I knew I was close. And then, bingo! Thank you for cross listing and TFTC!

I found it! 02 Apr 2010    Quadrivia  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I hope this counts. The Twin Cities is full of odd intersections. I had a couple in mind when I read about this cache, but I think this intersection is the best candidate. Here, three streets intersect and one of them changes names at the intersection. So the street names that intersect are Central Ave, E Hennepin Ave, SE 5th St., and NE 5th St. As you can probably tell from the pictures, it's a busy intersection. Visited here on a gloomy morning before work. Thanks for the locationless cache!

I found it! 26 Mar 2010    Four Windows  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Didn't get a chance to do this when it was at GC, so thank you for posting it here! Boy that was a long expedition just to find one virtual! I'll have to recoop before I can head out for more caches. Funny thing is, I didn't get much of a signal to grab the coords. I'm afraid I had resorted to estimation. Thanks for the riddle and the fun!

Google translation:
Haben Sie nicht die Chance bekommen, dies zu tun, als es auf der GC, so thank you for posting it here! Boy, dass war eine lange Reise zu finden, nur eine virtuelle! Danke für das Rätsel und der Spaß!

I found it! 18 Mar 2010    Distance Caching 101  ( Difficulty: 4.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

This was a lot of fun. I have to admit, this is my first arm chair virtual, but the amount of work I put into it makes it feel like I've earned a find. A good use of wikipedia helped me with the first set of questions. The translation was no problem, since I know of a similar object nearby. But the last question took me about an hour or so to figure out. I really should have been doing homework instead. But oh well! Thanks for the fun distraction!

I found it! 07 Nov 2009    Salem Hills Mystery Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Found this on a beautiful, sunny, warm November Saturday. My daughter and I took a stroll while kids mountain-biked by. Nice hide, not too far off the beaten path. My daughter enjoyed rummaging through the swag while I added a wooden nickel. TFTC!

I found it! 07 Nov 2009    Not That Tired  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

Found this on a gorgeous, warm, November Saturday with my toddler daughter in tow. I didn't find a trail per se to go up the hill, but thankfully, the fall's effect on plant life made bushwhacking up the hill an easier task. Nifty little hide, wasn't what I had expected. TFTC!

I couldn 07 Nov 2009    Lizard Cache  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

I saw that this cache might be a navicache exclusive and I was rather excited at the prospect of finding a cache that hadn't been touched for four years. How cool would that be? It'd be like a long lost secret. But alas, no such luck today. Heading towards the cache, I figured the odds were against it still existing. Even if no other cacher had found it since 2005, the odds of someone else discovering it by accident were good. Nice ravine and huge beacons at GZ. My daughter and I examined all of them. There's a nice set of roots at the center of ground zero that could support a regular sized cache, but nothing there. Erosion over the years may have exposed the cache, so unless I hear from the owner, I'm going to assume this one is long gone.

I found it! 03 Jul 2009    yo yo yo  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Had the day to myself and had the day off from work, so what better way to spend the day than navicaching? I parked at a nearby office building and walked in. Pleasant walk along the lake, going by the foot path through the underbrush made it more fun. Container is in good shape and contents are bone dry. TFTC!

I found it! 03 Jul 2009    At the Posted Coordinates  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 1 )

Previously searched for this at night at the "other site," but had no luck. Searched for this one navicaching and had better luck. I was prepared for a thorough, exhausting search, and then found it right away. Haven't seen this kind of micro container before. TFTC!

I couldn 03 Jul 2009    Log Book  ( Difficulty: 4    Terrain: 1.5 )

Thoroughly search GZ for an hour and came up empty. I suspect I need to expand my search radius a bit. I'll be back.

I found it! 03 Jul 2009    Do the Dew  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Nice park. I was surprised to find the park swarming with mountain bikers. I will have to visit this park again and bring my bike. Looks like fun trails. At first, GZ didn't have any beacons that stood out. Then I spotted something strange and had a good laugh. TFTC!

I couldn 03 Jul 2009    BMX and Buckthorn  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Stage 1 proved too elusive for me. I had a hard time searching due to the area infested with poison ivy. I'll come back when the weeds are down.

I found it! 03 Jul 2009    Jeremiah the Bullfrog Swamp  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Had some fun watching the archers nearby. Pleasant walk and nice hide. I rehid it better than how I found it. TFTC!

I found it! 02 Jul 2009    Pet Sematary  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

This is a nice cache. Had a little time for myself today, so I attempted this cache and enjoyed a pleasant walk through the park. Today was an example of why I love summer. It was sunny, cool, and the thick canopy provided plenty of shade. The cache is in good shape and it was fun to read through the log book. TFTC!

I found it! 01 Jul 2009    Kiss Me On The Bus  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

This is my first unique navicache find and my first navicache FTF. I'm glad to see a new navicache in the area. We could use more. Tricky hide. A lot of beacons around GZ, some distracted me more than they should from the real hide location. The plant growth made searching difficult as well. Was about to get a tool of the trade from the car when I placed my hand on the container. And found an empty log sheet! It's a good day. Thanks for the fun!

I found it! 02 May 2009    2009 MnGCA Spring Event - Safari Send-Off!  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Great event. Good food, good temps (thanks to whoever had us balancing on logs in the middle of a swamp to reach the find!), and good company. Thanks to all those who voted our cache most creative. TFTE!

Note 24 Jan 2009    Walk on the Wild Side  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

We were in town to visit the folks and went shopping at Cabela's. Might as well hit up a cache, right? Had fun doing the stages and gathering the information instead of actual shopping. Warning to future would-be finders, the counter that the cache was located at was removed several years ago and a brief discussion with the employees revealed that the cache likely no longer exists. Tis a shame since this is the only cache in the area unique to Navicache. TFTH.

Note 29 Jul 2008    Egg Zackly  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Log entry was deleted.

I found it! 29 Jul 2008    Egg Zackly  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

I wish we would have read the logs before we came here. We just ran out of baggies in our caching bag. The existing log was illegible, soaked and moldy. We threw it away and added a new, dry sheet. For those coming here soon, maybe someone else could bring a baggie. TFTC.

I found it! 08 Jul 2008    Historic Como Park 2 - The Lilly Pond  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Quick find. This one was out of play when we were last caching in the park. Glad to see it back. TFTC.

I found it! 12 Jun 2008    Inspiration  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

It was a slippery trip down the slope after this morning rain, wading through waist high weeds. Ahh, only our obsession with caching would explain why I would willfully soil and dirty my work clothes. TFTC!

It should be noted that this cache has since been archived and has been replaced with Firstbass' "Perspiration." Dated 1/22/09.

I found it! 27 May 2008    Reservoir Woods  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

We came up to the spot and stepped right on the cache. Great park. TFTC.

I found it! 29 Mar 2008    Historic Como Park 3 - Hamm Memorial Waterfalls  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Quick find on the way to the virtual cache. We've never been to the falls before, so we didn't realize it was on the other side of the hill. TFTC.
