I found it! 06 Sept 2015    Houdini  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

I made a last minute decision to attend this year’s Geocaching Hampton Roads (GCHR) mega even picnic. Part of the draw for me was that there were a number of Navicaches, TerraCaches and one OCNA cache within reach. Sunday morning, my son (JuniorNimrod) and I headed down to Virginia Beach do some of these. We went to the board walk for 3 first, then headed here.

Not being familiar with the area, I just followed the Nuvi and arrived at the park entrance without any cash. The gentleman manning the booth was kind enough to give me a courtesy pass so I could "check out the park" since I'd never been here (and was a little pathetic). Thanks, Ray (or Rey)!

My son couldn't believe I was looking for a cache that hadn't been logged online in nearly 9 years, so he waited for me at the car. I was really hoping I would find this so I could tell him it wasn't a "waste of time".

As I started out, the batteries in my GPS died and the 2 pair I brought with me weren't much better. Somehow, I also grabbed a lone rechargable, but had left the other one in my bag. Not a good start. I brought up Navicache on my phone and saved the page off as a PDF, in case I lost signal. I had about 20% battery life and had left my external in the car. See, I was being sort of pathetic this day.

I had noticed the trailhead on the way to parking, so didn't need GPS help with that and knew the start was about 200' in. I did bring the GPS up when I go close and I didn't see the required sign. Urgh! I actually had a good idea of what 11 letters I was going to use, but then spotted the sign a little ways away. Were these loose 2002 coords or had the sign moved? Either way, I got what I needed and broke out the pen and paper.

After a few minutes and careful work, I had all I would need (aside from some luck) to locate the cache, itself. Looked at the trail maps, got a decent idea of where I was headed and put the phone away. Off I headed toward GZ.

I got close and noticed a side trail about where I would expect. Looking good. Followed it a bit and saw another heading more directly to GZ. OK, OK. Hopefully, this was an indicator that I was in the right place AND things hadn't changed so much since 2006 that I wouldn't be able to get to GZ. That was one fear I had.

Got to withing 50 feet and started looking around. Consulted the clue after a few and zeroed in on some likely spots. No luck after about 20 minutes. Urgh!

Just as the thought of maybe "calling it" started to enter my head, I saw something, recognized it as an ammo can and my heart raced! As I got closer, I could tell it had been sitting alone for a while and even seemed to have "Navicache" painted on the front. I had it!!!!!!!!

Now, to pull out my paper and check one more piece of information. With that in hand I approached even closer and gave it a shot. After working with it, I realized it seemed I could have progressed without it.

Now, to actually get it open. That was probably the biggest challenge and I was starting to wish I'd brought my toolbox with me. Finally managed to get it open, though.

Dumped out some water that had made its way in, but with the rust on the can, I'm sure it'll start seeping in again.

Box was well stocked and the log book was actually dry. I took pics of all the previous logs to read over later. The most recent one was actually from July 3, 2009. A number of logs that were not online mentioned that it was their first ever geocache. I guess the park office used to have info on the cache that visitors could get. Otherwise, it seemed odd that there were so many of these.

I picked up a very strange little "robo-baby" toy that I may turn into a trackable / traveler. Dropped off a NASA Hubble sticker.

Got everything back together and the can settled back into its form fitting recess. Texted my son that I had actually found it and posted a few pics and my excitement to Facebook on the way out.

The White Urkel, below, knows me well. It was last May when he posted, but he knew I'd have to come try this. And it was the highlight of my caching weekend. I'll have to call it in to Podcacher or The Geocaching Podcast. This might be the "lonliest" physical cache I've ever found. I did find a GPSgames cache that was similarly old so will have to compare. It is definitely the one with the oldest last online log - 9 years!

Thanks and Happy Trails, Quinn!

I found it! 06 Sept 2015    Kempsville History  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Came down to the Hampton Roads area for the GCHR picnic mega event and had to grab a number of alternative geocaches while I was here. I got 4 TerraCaches, 2 Navicaches, and 1 OpenCaching North America cache. Not bad, but I need to come back down to work on the rest before long. This is a good area for these caches and I will be publishing a new OCNA virtual and maybe a TC from information I collected soon.

I met the owner at GCHR on Saturday and talked to him about the cache. He'd actually forgotten it was listed here.

Quick find in some very light rain. I pretty much remembered where it would be, but it seemed to have been missing on my last visit. It had actually been raining pretty steady when I pulled into the parking lot, but let up by the time I was ready to walk back.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

Note 01 Sept 2014    Logger II  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

Found on August 31, but I only log crosslisted caches on a single site. This time, kind of want to log them all as finds.

Was down from Maryland with sfcchaz for a (mostly) alt-caching run thru Charlotte. This was day two, after a surprisingly well attended 0630 (AKA o'dark thirty) event at Krispy Kreme (maybe that explains it).

We had a great time and definitely plan to make a return trip some time.

Again, I need to do one of these at home. I only log crosslisted caches as "found" on one site, but will be posting notes to the companion listings, as well.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

Niap90, I had this cache on my watchlist from my visit to Western New York a coupl years ago. I do hope to make it back again to be able to find it. I hope you simply didn't understand how Naviache and the alternative cache sites work and thought it WAS geo-trash.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

Note 08 Mar 2014    Harrisburg Station  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Had a "busy day" with sfcchaz and some others (at times) in SEPA. This was out first stop on the way to Raiders of the Lost Cache (GC2HN2H). Found parking with no problem on a Saturday morning and walked over to gather our information.

I've wanted to get to this triple-listed cache for some time.

Thanks for bringing us here!

Will log as "found" on GPSgames and a note here and Groundspeak. I only log a crosslisted cache on 1 site, so I can keep a better count of my total number of caches.

Note 08 Mar 2014    Centralia, The Burning Town  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2 )

Came up from Maryland with the Zombie Horde and friends to tackle Raiders of the Lost Cache (GC2HN2H) and this. Most of the folks we were with oddly wear blinders when caching and will only allow themselves to see Groundspeak caches, even when it would take almost no additional effort to log a cache on another website, such as Navicache.

Well, at least my friend and fellow "unlimited" geocacher, sfcchaz, decided to ride along with me an we each claimed finds on 6 different GPS games. I got geocaching.com, Navicache, GPSgames (gc), a GeoVexilla flag, and Dashpoint, and a Munzee. He doesn't have a smartphone to do Munzee, but he did claim a TerraCaching Locational Cache of mine for his 6th, though.

I've been wanting to visit Centralia for some time for it's unique "abandoned" nature and for this triple listed cache. When I find a crosslisted cache, though, I will only log it as "found" on one site and as a not on the other(s), so I can keep better count of my unique cache finds. Glad to finally log this, especially since I had to pleasure of meeting the CO in NY a couple years ago.

While we were doing some nearby caches, a local muggle who worked with one of our party 10 years ago saw her post on Facebook and came found us. He told us the Centralia fire was finally put out 10 years ago. So far, I haven't been able to confirm this online, but guess I will trust him.

Thanks for giving me the excuse to finally come up here.

Yeah, sfcchaz and I were having a busy day with finds on 6 GPS game sites, including a some as part of a big group that came up from Maryland to tackle a couple special caches.

We did spend about half and hour searching before deciding the cache wasn't there or wasn't going to found by us.

I should have done a little better research at home. If I had, I would have found that the cache was archived back in December after having been removed by the last finder at the end of October.

From the LTF log over there (by tonywee)...

* * * * *
LTF (last to find). I found the geocache and was opening it to sign the log when a lady in a silver car pulled up and was yelling "out out!"...I went down to talk to her and she said she has been watching the property for the guy who owns it and has "prowlers" all of the time. She said she has people screwing and parking on the dead end street which she referred to as "lovers lane" I showed her the log and told her is a geocache and explained to her about the log and that all of the people that were here were not doing any harm but respected that it was private property. I took the cache with me to return it to the owner. If the owner could contact me at tony7065@gmail.com I can return the cache to you since she had a problem with it there I didn't want to leave it.

Ah well. Should be archived here, as well, though.

Thanks for those who could make it out and regrets to those who could not - paricularly KASCAN. Thanks for all the new OCNA caches.

I did two of KASCAN's on a hike around the loop with my cousins (myquest13 / coolbuddy6 / cb6's dad) and am thinking of cancelling plans to go out to the Space Coast event, so I'll have more time to the find your others and some local TC's.

Hopefully, I'll be out in Missouri for XII and we can do this again.

"I would recommend meeting up by the old cow camp - N27° 59.534' W081° 51.557' – It is out of the way, but not far (.25) from the event and this is where everyone will be hanging their banners. It is near the start of the Wherigo - GC49V1Y. I have attached a map of the trails and marked approximately where the Cow Camp is with a black mark. Most of the event will be around the Nature Discovery Center and the vendors will be set up along the Shady Oak trail leading to the lake."

Look forward to seeing folks!

Finally got by to find this one, after caching with sfcchaz around Fredericksburg.

We made the co-FTF as sunset was approaching. I'd actually been VERY close to the cache on my first attempt, but didn't quite expand my search enough.

Today, was a little more insistent on getting to the right spot for the find. I came up with it and called Chaz over.

I found it! 03 Jul 2012    Duck, Duck, Turtle?  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

3365. I had (cross)listed an event on Navicache, today, and happened to look at the list of newest caches. Turns out this was THE very next cache published on the site (N02EA5 vs.
N02EA4) AND it was only about 5 miles from home - a lot closer than my event!

I headed home after work and then needed to attend a meeting at church. Got out about 8:30 and headed up, trying (hoping) to beat the storm that seemed to be approaching.

I don't believe I ever found its predecessor. As I approached GZ, I knew there was no reason to "fear the turtle", since I knew where it was going to be.

In addition to the FTF, I'm counting this toward NativTxn's "Hiders and Seekers Unlimited" contest.

That would give me 5 sites in one day, to tie my record.

Parked at the recommended location and hiked out to GZ. After a few minutes of looking around, I came up with the find. I added this to my "to do" list for the day because of its being listed here, on Navicache.

@ N 39 W 77

I was over in Montgomery County for one of the Cache Across Maryland 2012 hides, so came by here on the way home to log this and a TerraCache virtual for this specific confluence.

Knowing differing GPS units and vary in their precision, I cam equipped with my 62st, 60CSx, Nuvi 255w and the Tricorder app on my Droid2. Unfortunately, the confluence was inside, so I couldn't get GPS reception at I frequently got spot on with the West, looking at the photos I got, the best North I could get was accompanied by being .001 off on the West.

Best reading...
N 39 00.008
W 77 00.001

I parked by the local library and walked over. Today, it turned out that I wouldn't have had much better luck in the confluence was in the middle of the open area, since all the grass was fenced off because of newly planted turf.

Considering an image wasn't explicitly required, I figured that visiting the site was the main requirement. Posting pics to supplement my log.

Let me know if this is not good enough.

Washington, DC is notorious for their speed cameras. I usually avoid taking I-295 thru the city on my way to work, but occasionally do. Most agree that the speed limit of 40-50 MPH along here is lower than it should be and traffic probably averages about 10 MPH above that.

2984. Well, this time, I found myself on the right side after closely reading the cache page and checking something on my phone. My projection seemed to take to the wrong side, both times, I've tried this.

Checked the right spot once I was there, but didn't notice it, since I was trying to be aware of muggles (lots of them on this beautiful afternoon) and didn't want to be too obvious. Checked another spot (very near by) and then went to get a Coke and parked myself back at the correct spot and was quickly able to grab it this time in a slick slight of hand that I don't believe attracted any attention.

Signed the logbook and checked the contents, while I enjoyed "the real thing". Turns out someone else was here, earlier, today. Probably a GC.com cacher, though.

Glad to log this on Navicache. Will post a Note at GC.

Since Friday, I've now logged caches on GC.com, OpenCachingUS, TerraCaching, GPSgames, and Navicache! That's how I like to roll.

2964. FINALLY made it up here to find my 2nd closest unfound OCUS cache to home. I was "on my way" (actually going out of my way) to the MGS Fall Picnic down in New Germany, MD.
As a Redskins fan, the name of this cache especially attracted my attention, that THAT Dan Snyder seems to have finally learned to let his head coach and general manager to the work and stay out of their way.

Anyway, back to this cache. The road wasn't too bad, today, and enjoyed the drive back to the cemetery. I entered the cemetery and took advantage of a tree which had been fallen across the rear fence to allow fairly direct access to GZ.

Only took a couple minutes to find. Very much enjoyed and am rating this as "Excellent" for the overall experience.

Current Temporary Memorial - The Western Overlook. The previous temporary memorial, which was located on Skyline Rd [CACHE SITE?], was retired in the summer of 2010. The location is now part of the Field of Honor and Skyline Rd. is closed. The tributes from the previous temporary memorial are under the care of the memorial's curatorial staff. Visitor services are now located at the Western Overlook.

It would appear that the listed coords are no longer accessble and the container is likely in the possession of the curatorial staff.

I recommend this cache be archived.

Stopped inside the church, too, and spoke to another member and he informed us that the CO was out caching.

I think this was the only NC crosslisting we actually attempted. Sorry we couldn't come away with a find.

I found it! 23 Jul 2011    SAWMILL  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

2826. Stopped off on the way to the Maryland Geocaching Society Summer Picnic to find one of the few Navicaches in the state, that I'd not found. A little out of my way, but worth it for a special cache.

Arrived at parking and started down the road, but then back tracked and found my own way, versus the directions on the cache page.

Got near GZ and spotted the cache (well, the camo) and made find. Took nothing, left a Pathtag and a wooden nickel.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

2821. I'd loaded up my GPS with a bunch of OCUS, TC and NC caches to find while on the road between Doylestown, PA and Fenwick Island, DE. This was my first on the way home, today.

Enjoyed the walk, though the local bugs didn't seem to understand the concept of the OFF! I'd sprayed all over myself before heading down the trail. Maybe it would have been worse, without it, I guess.

Spotted the cache from about 15 feet away, which I was glad of, so I could at least start moving, again. Bugs seemed a bit worse when I was essentially standing still.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

2822. I'd loaded up my GPS with a bunch of OCUS, TC and NC caches to find while on the road between Doylestown, PA and Fenwick Island, DE. Made my way over here, after returning to the car, from 3 Black Crows Sitting.

At times I had to trust that the "trail" was continuing in a straight line and the local bugs still didn't seem to understand the concept of the OFF!.

Used the clue to narrow down the options.

2820. Loaded my GPS up with a bunch of OCUS, TC and NC caches for my trip to Camp Ockinickon and then down to Fenwick Island, DE. I've long noticed this one when checking Buxley's Maps for relatively near Navicache "hides" to go for. Finally made it by. My son was beat after his week and camp, so I left him in the car while I took my walking tour of the Fallsington.

Could definitely imagine that I'd stepped back in time - for the entirety of my walk.

I stopped off on the way to meet my troop at summer camp at Camp Ockinickon a bit further north. I took the harder path in from near the fieldhouse, since the GPS seemed to pointing that way. Took the easier way out, of course.

Interesting area. Once into the woods, the GPS didn't seem that helpful, but I found with help of the clue.

Took nothing, left some wooden nickels.

I found it! 11 Jul 2011    Miles Of Mules - LOCATIONLESS CACHE  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

N 38° 57.665 W 076° 55.960

College Park, MD is the home of the University of Maryland College Park (naturally) and the Maryland Terrapins. I'm not sure how many are left, but at one point they had a similar series of sculptures of Testudo - the Terps's mascot, a diamondback terrapin (turtle).

This one is located at the Riversdale Historic House & Museum. Riversdale, a National Historic Landmark, is a restored, five-part, stucco-covered brick plantation home built between 1801 and 1807. Construction was begun by Henri Stier, a Flemish aristocrat, and was completed by his daughter Rosalie and her husband George Calvert, grandson of the fifth Lord Baltimore and a well-heeled planter and state legislator. Married in 1799, George and Rosalie even spent part of their honeymoon with the George and Martha Washington at Mount Vernon before settling on George's tobacco plantation in Prince George's County.

It was from the South Portico of this home, about 2 miles from the battlefield, that Rosalie Stier Calvert reported to have seen several cannonballs with her own eyes during the Battle of Bladensburg in 1814. In reality, she probably saw bright Congreve rockets, used by the British for the first time during the War of 1812. Later, it was the use of these same rockets by the British in the bombardment of Fort McHenry, which inspired the fifth line of the first verse of the United States National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner: "And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air". Learn more at Fort McHenry National Monument and Shrine.

A full restoration of the historic house began in 1988. Following the discovery of Rosalie Calvert's letters in the family archives in Belgium, the decision was made to restore the house to its appearance during the period of Rosalie and George Calvert's occupancy, 1801-1838.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

They were working on the road today and I think maybe this cache was destroyed. We looked all over the gate posts in the stated location but did not find it. I noticed a recent tire mark on the hinge part of the gate where I thought it would be. It might have been knocked off by the grinding machine they used today. Might want to check it and let me know if I am wrong or not.

Visited Federal Hill, this morning. Got a good, free parking space, event. Spent about 30-45 minutes at GZ. Found what I am 99% sure that is the cache, but simply could not retrieve it in any way that wouldn't attract undue attention. I could grab it, but it was lodged and simply wouldn't be removed. I found it! 21 May 2011    Weird NJ: Discoteque  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

2684. FTF after 8 years and 4 months!!!

I was in the area for Beach Jam at Wildwood with the scouts. I took a break and headed out caching a bit. I checked the location out on Google Maps street view to get an idea if the target location was still there and still "weird", but all I could tell was that there was a 2 story building with what appeared to be some plate windows on the second story. Therefore, I added this to my "to do" list for the weekend.

Rest assured, the site continues to maintain its "weird" character. Would like to have been able to go inside.

Glad to finally log this one. I'd been to Wildwood for Beach Jam twice before (2008 & 2009), but couldn't get over here. This time, I was able get reasonable, free parking all weekend, so didn't mind taking the car out.

BTW, this appears to be (or have been), the Whitesboro Historical Museum. There was a "Now Open" sign folded and leaning up against the side of the building.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

I'd camped not far from GZ, back in the fall, during a Boy Scout camporee at Fort McHenry, so I knew exactly what the description was referencing.

Landing Place of William Penn

Cooridinates: N 39 39.507 W 75 33.752

Location: Marker is at the intersection of Delaware Street and The Strand, on the right when traveling west on Delaware Street.

Inscription: Near here October 27, 1682, William Penn first stepped on American soil. He proceeded to the fort and performed Livery of Seisin. “He took the key, thereof,…we did deliver unto him 1 turf with a twig upon it, a porringer with river water and soyle, in part of all.”

Erected: 1932 by Historic Markers Commission.

Marker Number: NC-28. (Thought this was ironic since I was claiming this as an NC virtual and it was my 2628th overall cache find.)

I placed this cache a year ago and the BSA Trustworthy billboard almost immediately. I've decided that since GZ is not exactly much of a destination, it is time to retire this cache. It's been a while since I've been to the cache and I did not recognize the hide. It has definitely evolved (through being listed on GC.com). I actually really liked how it was hidden, now, but it was just time.

Besides, scout552's log was the perfect icing on the cake. I will be putting the container back out, soon, with the dollar he left. Not sure when or where, but I will try to get it out soon.

Thanks to NetworkCacher who was the only one to log the cache on NC. Happy Trails & Be Prepared!

Thought I'd share the final log on the cache from GC.com.

October 1 by scout552 (371 found)

A spider was perched atop a camoflaging item. I awaited his departure and made a quick grab.

A Scout is...
trustworthy, (no lie, I left George Washington in there)
loyal, (CO, you rock for the Scout themed cache and service as a Cubbie leader, keep up the good work, Happy Centennial!)
helpful, (left a couple Post-It notes if the log gets full, it really should be replaced with a formal log now)
friendly, (no animals were harmed in the writing of this log)
courteous, (I think the spider appreciated me waiting)
kind, (I left a bandage in case anyone cuts themselves on the sharp metal of the sign, don't do it!)
obedient, (I parked in a designated space)
thrifty, (Hmmm... I did give away that buck...)
brave, (that jogger and his dog hardly scared me)
clean, (I dunno, it's been pretty muddy out Geocaching the last few days!)
and reverent! (Pray, tell, where did they put those caches?!)

I'll post a photo or two soon. Don't know if any Scout noticed this, but there is a metal plate tacked to one of the sign poles that says "OA VA". Not sure what that was for, but some of you will identify with those letters! YIS... Scout552

This was also my first visit to any restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (to the best of my knowledge).

I took my mom here for an early Mothers' Day dinner - she's a fan of DD&D, too. We arrived and were asked if we'd called ahead. Uh oh. Luckily, we were still able to get a table almost right away. Service was great and our waitress was both friendly and professional. I started with cream of crab soup, though I think I may have rather had the vegetable crab soup, but it was still very good. We each had the stuffed shrimp (with crab cake) for our entrees. I had mine with sweet potato fries and cucumber salad, along with a sweet tea. Unfortunately, no room for desert, even though they appeared to have some great homemade treats.

I am logging the annual Easter morning pancake breakfast which follows the sunrise service my church. We also host a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday (AKA Mardi Gras or the day before Ash Wednesday) each year. What makes our pancake breakfasts / suppers so special is the sausage gravy traditionally made by Roland, one of our "senior" United Methodist Men. We offer syrup, but to do it right, you need to have it "all over" (the pancakes and the sausage). As a member of the UMM, I usually help with these events and am generally one of the servers.

I found it! 21 Mar 2010    yellow jeep fever  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Earlier this week, KFL posted that he'd finally gotten to log this cache after a year of not having his camera with him whenever he did see a yellow jeep. I replied with the following...
Thanks for the reminder. I'd seen this before and just saw one the other day, but didn't get a pic. My challenge - see if I can log this by the weekend.
I'm glad to say that I found one while looking for a cache in the Brewer’s Hill neighborhood, home of the National Bohemian Brewery (Natty Boh) through 1978.

Thanks, KFL, for prompting me to take on this challenge.

Found at corner of Odonnell St & S Conkling St (N 39° 16.829 W 076° 34.017). Want to see something really cool? When logging this, I'd left my GPS out in the car, so figured I'd check Google Maps for the coords. Check out what I saw in the street view....

Guess the owner lives there OR really likes the frequent the Natty Boh Lounge across the street.

Check the location of this virtual cache. Not sure what you're supposed to find, but the coords are literally in someone's back yard. I still think this needs to be archived before someone decides to check it out and gets nabbed by the residents.

cameraCache is in Someone's Back Yard!

Note 10 Dec 2009    In The Woods  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

This cache is listed as a virtual, but there is nothing on the page to indicate what you are supposed to find, no logging requirement, and no way to contact the owner.

Am I just supposed to go in the woods to log this as a find? If I'm supposed to find something and there is no ARL, what is to keep me from logging it as a find from my desk?

Looking at the cache page, it seems like maybe this is supposed to be a physical cache, but was listed as the wrong type.

I am on a mission to clean up dead Navicaches in the MD-DC-VA area and will be sending PCMedic an archive request for this cache, unless I end up hearing from the owner.

I found it! 05 Dec 2009    Rocket Action  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found on this snowy day with my son's Boy Scout troop. This was my second visit to the site, but I wasn't yet into Navicache the first time.

This is only my eighth (non-crosslisted) NC find and the fourth FTF. I was only the second to log three others.

Thanks and Happy Trails!

I contacted the owner about archiving this cache and got the follwoing response:

"It has been "forever" since I used Navicache..cannot log it, do not have password and after 10 minutes I give up trying.

Sorry, DR Webe"

I am submitting it to NC for administrative archiving.

I found it! 02 Nov 2009    webcam race 2007 (Hoover-Dam)  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I was just on a short vacation out west and had a chance to drive across the Hoover Dam on my way to Arizona for a quick GC.com virtual. Was sort of diappointed that there wasn't one for the dam, though.

Was glad to learn I could log this interesting, but time comsuming web cam Navicache.

Finally found a convertable just before 2:00 PM EST.

My 4th exclusive NC cache find.

Wooohoooo! FTF!!!! I saw this new cache pop up and was able to make it down here in just 5 years and 7 days. I was worried that someone that lives closer may have gotten there first, but apparently, I got lucky and beat them out.

Seriously, I was out for a day of virtual caching with my friend scrubjay1986 and planned to get as many as possible, including Groundspeak, Navicache, and Terracaching.

Smokey's Blues was our first stop after picking up tickets for the Washington Monument. Thanks! E-mail on the way.

I found it! 27 Jun 2009    Freedom Fighter  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

My 5th exclusive NC cache find.

Was attempting another FTF during our "Virtual Tour" of DC, but seem to have missed out on this one by about 4 years. Car2 seemed to get to this only one year after it was published. Those "FTF hounds" that pounce on new caches as soon as their published, have their fun, I guess, but it's not for me.

Seriously, this was one of about 25 Groundspeak, Navicache, and Terracahing virtuals my friend scrubjay1986 and I found today. It was the second of our three NC finds. Thanks! I will have to look up more information on this man.

My 6th exclusive NC cache find.

ANOTHER FTF!!! I'll just say, it was a hoot to get this after 5 years! I wonder how many cachers have gone to DC to hunt "all the virtuals" and walked right by here. The spot does deserve to be a virtual, but also deserves more attention from the community.

This was our last stop before returning to the Washington Monument for the "Above the City" virtual. Thanks!

I found it! 17 May 2009    Weird Cape May  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

My 3rd exclusive NC cache find.

Six-and-a-half years is too long for a second find, to paraphrase the CO (again).

After packing up from Beach Jam, my son (JuniorNimrod) and I visited some local caches before heading back to Maryland. This was my second "pure" (non-crosslisted) Navicache find - at least, it is now. If this used to be on on Groundspeak, it's been archived. Glad it was still available over here.

I was able to park next door on this Sunday afternoon. The object of this virtual is for sale again. Any takers?

Thanks for the cache!

This was a dual listed cache with GC.com. CO confirmed it was missing on 8/13/08 and it was archived over there. Unless he replaced it and only left it listed here, it is likely gone. http://coord.info/gc100xn

Note 08 Apr 2009    Nauck, Knock, Who's There?  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

This was a dual listed cache with GC.com. On 4/22/07, the CO posted there that he'd removed the cache due to complaints from park neighbors. Apparently, they didn't like seeing recreational activities going on in the park.

"Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget those who died
America can't you see

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all"

I'll admit that I didn't realize this was listed as a Navicache at the time, but I found a GC cache that is on site and did take some pics. I'll try to get one posted soon.

Glad to log Mother Wolf's only non-crosslisted Navicache, even if it is quite late.
