Note 03 Feb 2010    R U a Bushwhacker?  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 3 )

I've been aware of this cache for over a year. Good intentions to get here never came to fruition until today. Guess I had forgotten anything I knew about this before starting, because I was really underprepared!

Chose one of the parking spots without being aware what was in front of me. Thought the title of the cache was going to be the biggest obstacle, but it didn't turn out that way. After thinking I had made it through the worst phase, suddenly found myself with water leaking down over my gaitors and into my boots. Oops. I skirted around for a bit looking for a better approach, but decided the cold, smell and squish of my boots was enough of an adventure.

A bit of homework has me eyeing a different approach. Hopefully it won't take me another year to try it out!

I found it! 29 Mar 2008    Barkley's Poker Drop Off  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Saw this pop up late yesterday, but it was too late to take a jaunt down to the area.

On my way to a conference this AM, I made a slight detour and went through the area. Found the cache quickly and signed the log as second to find.

Note 16 Mar 2008    Tip my cap to you  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

I found it! 16 Mar 2008    Tip my cap to you  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

The winter has made me a bit slow. Either that or spending the day pulling up carpet dulled my brain. :)

Enjoyed the walk into the area, checked on the neighboring cache and poked around for this for awhile. Finally it came to me and the log was signed.

Thanks for the great excuse for a walk on a gorgeous evening!

I found it! 27 Feb 2008    Ghost's Domain  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

This cache was brought up recently as the oldest in Monroe County. After having been through most of the park in search of other geocaches, I couldn't pass up the chance to search for this piece of history!

There is nothing like searching for a cache that hasn't been visited in 19 months on an 18 degree day after 6-8 inches of new snow. :)

The walk to the search area was beautiful. The new snow was clinging to the trees and there were few prints in the snow. The cold was a bit of a challenge, but moreso because I kept taking off my glove to take pictures.

After finally arriving at ground zero, the search was maddening because of the nooks, crannies and heavy snow layer. Just as I was about to lose the last of the feeling in my hands from cold and call it an adventure, the cache revealed itself. It took some work to retrieve it from its long slumber, but it was worth the effort. I just wish the cold had not prevented me from enjoying the time capsule (log book) more.

This will be a great spot to revist as the weather warms up.

Thanks for a fun wintertime adventure!

I found it! 24 Feb 2008    Slipping and sliding  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Wish I had been watching this site as close as the other one. :)

Wiped out in my hurry to arrive at the site early the next morning only to find it had already had two visitors the night before. Oh well, it was a great area to visit and allowed me to get a great walk (with slips) and visit a plethora of nearby hides.

Thanks for the fun!
