I found it! 07 Sept 2008    Burning Micro IV  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Made a long drive directly from Boston for just this event. Once again I brought the most micros to their deaths. This was the first year I went over to watch the potato cannon and Kordite's bottle rocket all of which was very entertaining. Always glad to come and participate in this great event. It is too bad that this year the spew seems to be getting a foothold in the area. Had a blast talking cache with many great friends and meeting a few new people. The food, conversation, and burning plastic crap was great.

Thanks for another great one, QM.

Note 18 Jul 2008    Burning Micro IV  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Saving the date and I am going to start collecting filmcans to burn.

I found it! 19 Jun 2008    Heroes of Flight 93  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Cache was an easy find but by no means a park and grab.
Time had to be taken for this to sink in.
The area had quite an impact on me.

Thanks for bringing me here.

Note 14 Jun 2008    Dove 78's 2000 finds  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

Where do I know this one from???
Kind of suprised to find one of mine listed on here.

I found it! 02 Jun 2008    Presque Isle Beach Cache  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Looked for this one with Mr. Midnight and Gforce84 after doing some canoeing in the lagoons.
Tried to take the wrong tail at first and had to backtrack and get on the right one.
Easy find in a familiar spot once we got there.

I found it! 27 May 2008    Steve's Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

Found while out caching on a beautiful day in the Amherst/Lockport area with Mr. Midnight.

Kind of funny... I was prepared but Mr. Midnight was not. I had my huge, mean, waterproof, walk-up-anything caching boots on and he had sneakers. I made it directly through the swampy area in my usual caching style of going through anything in the way. He had to find another way around. Bet some ot those thorns get huge a bit later in the year. Glad they were not huge yet.

Cache was a quick easy find after Mr. Midnight caught up with me.

I couldn 30 Mar 2008    Lockport After Dark  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 4 )

Found where I think the firetack trail ends but could not spot any more off of the trail.

After trying for a while my spotlight died.
I had noticed that at least one of the firetacks (on the trail) has lost the reflective coating.

Will return to try again.

I found it! 30 Mar 2008    Milestone Multi  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

Found while out grabbing a few in Nature View today.

This was my first stop and I figured out stage one with no trouble. It was then off down the trails to locate the second stage. I am not sure what the confusion with numbers was about but the tag had the same correct number on both sides. Then I headed off to the next stage and spent forever looking for another tag only to realize much later that I was at the final and standing on an ammo box looking for a tag. Signed up and grabbed the coordinates for the bonus before heading deeper into the park.

I found it! 30 Mar 2008    A View To Nature  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Found while out grabbing a few in Nature View today.

This was my second stop in the park today because it was located between a few multis I was working on.
This was a quick easy find but getting the container unfrozen and out of it's hiding spot proved a bit more challenging and time consuming.
In the end I managed to get my name on the log.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Second Choice  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

Taking a DNF because I got the car stuck left a bad taste in my mouth so I came back for this one and managed to get the car just off of the road so I could still get out. I am especially glad I came back now that I realized that this is the only cache left of yours I have not found.

Took the two trails back to the cache and made the find quickly after a brief bushwack. As per usual I was not disappointed by the cache. I am disappointed that there are no more of your great caches to find. *HINT*

Thanks for making another trip to the area very enjoyable.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Devil's Snare  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 3 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

Stopped here after getting the car unstuck at Second Choice.
Parking situation was better here and it was a nice little trek to the cache. Once again I used the "cache deer" to guide me there with as little bushwacking as possible. Looks like hunters found this one. I removed live ammo and a couple of nails from the cache. They did not sign the logbook however. Another very nice cache.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Chac's Revenge  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 2 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

I have seen this in a puzzle cache before so I was actually able to solve it without looking at anything.
While that skill is a plus I must admit it really does not come in handy too often.

Found parking easily and the cache was no problem - loved the area.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Dissendium  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

You said it yourself, "Nothing crazy to do here - itís just a really nice area." It would be nice if other cache hiders kept that in mind more often. I found this to be one of the most enjoyable and relaxing caches I have done in quite a while. Excellent location, not too many stages, not too far to hike. At the same time it was not easy enough to be insulting or for people to just grab and run without seeing the area. In reviewing my track logs it looks like it turned out to be just over a mile round trip. The snow bumped the terrain up about one star but did not effect the difficulty at all.

The parking and legal access to the area provided on the page also earn this placement a few more points. The cemetary was very interesting and a great starting point. After that I encountered all of the trails heading everywhere but I only chose wrong once. I ended up just shoving my GPS in my pocket and I really enjoyed the hike to the final. This was one of those few times when a cache is just perfect for the time you choose to seek it.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Confundus  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

I will start with a thank you for fixing the page quickly enough for me to solve it and throw it on my route for today. Nice easy puzzle and an easy find after a short but scenic hike. The snow made finding the parking location difficult despite the fact that I have used this parking area before. No trouble finding the cache once I got there. No bushwacking I just followed the tracks of the "cache deer." Another nice hide.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Re-make/Re-model  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 2.5 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.
Decided to tackle this from Christine.

I had spoken to MickEmt earlier in the day so I knew he had been here just hours earlier but when I go there there were no sign of tracks. Still an easy find and I swapped one geocoin for another.

I found it! 07 Mar 2008    Nature View Park #5 AKA These pretzels are making me thirsty!  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3.5 )

Found while out doing some heavy winter caching in the area.

Parked on Philips and made my way to stage one. A dog walking neighbor snuck up behind me in the blizzard and screamed when she noticed me in the woods there. After all how likely are you to encounter anyone in Nature View in an epic snowstorm. I explained to her what I was doing and talked to her for a while befrore heading back to my search.

After not turning up anything for about 40 minutes, even after I read the "spoiler" hint, I decided to give up and head on to "Master and Commander." Heck, my GPSr in my hand was not even in plain sight today. So then after DNFing stage one of "Master" and talking to a previous finder of this one I headed back and searched another 20+ minutes for this. Finally, and I am pretty sure it was dumb luck, I got it and it was off to the final.

Found the final with little trouble.
This was a nice hike and a great introduction to Nature View Park.

I found it! 29 Feb 2008    It's Almost Like Being There  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Found while out caching with Nessie247.

First cache find on leap day. Enjoyed the walk in the winter woods. Found the cache - well hidden. Took about 10 minutes to find and another 10 to remove from it's icy home and open. We almost gave up but finally got it open. I tried on some glasses I found in the cache but did not have anything to trade for them :(

I found it! 30 Sept 2007    Freedom Falls  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Out grabbing a couple of caches with Nessie247 and Evil Benchmark Hater.

This was one of two caches I had on the list for the day. We parked on the road and headed down to the furnace to take pictures and climb it. There were a few teenage muggles in the area so we just spent a bit longer playing at the furnace while waiting for them to leave. Eventually they took off so we headed over to the falls.

I was still taking pictures when I realized that Nessie was gone. I spotted her sitting off by herself and figured that she had already found the cache. EBH and I headed over to where she was to find it ourselves. We signed the log and headed back down to the falls to play around a bit more and take a few more pictures.

Finally we headed up to the top of the falls to relax for bit longer before heading off to Umbrella Rock. This is a spectacular spot that I may never have found without geocaching. This hide gets a well-earned spot on my favorites list.

I found it! 30 Sept 2007    Umbrella Rock  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 4 )

Out grabbing a couple of caches with Nessie247 and Evil Benchmark Hater.

This was second of two caches I had on the list for the day. We headed right here after spendibg a while at Freedom Falls. We opted for the "shortest but most difficult" approach to the cache. We parked along 322 and headed off into the woods. It was pretty easy going up to the power lines but the terrain got tricker after that. We all ended up making it through with no injuries. I did get a spider in my eye while bushwacking in to the cache location but nothing too serious.

We made it to what we figured to be ground zero and then EBH found where he thought we had to go to find the cache. I set my backpack down fished around for a flashlight to issue to Nessie and my headlamp. Then we headed down below the ground. EBH thought there may be another lower entrance to the cave and took off to look for it while we started searching from the top down. Many spiders, crickets, and other cave dwelling insects were encountered along the way.

We eventually found the cache but we yelled back up to EBH that we needed help. No answer so we went on farther to try and meet him at a lower entrance if there was one. It turned out that there was not so we headed back to the cache and yelled up to him again. He was back up top so he came down into the cave a bit. We got the cache and realized that nobody had brought a pen down so we sent EBH back out to the backpacks above ground to get one. I believe he hit his head on a rock on the way. We finally got the log signed and the cache back into place.

No trade but I did remove the candy.

I found it! 26 Sept 2007    Eternal Flame Falls  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 3 )

Second of four caches that Nessie247 and I grabbed today in Western New York.

We drove about a hundred miles on a day that was off and on rain for this and nearby cache. We ended up at the location and realized after starting the hike into the gorge that we did not happen to have a lighter in the event that the flame was not burning. That was the biggest adventure of day. I just searched for the nearest gas station and my GPS ended up auto-routing me to a dead-end private road that has never had a gas station on it and most likely never will. We finally found a location that sold cigarette lighters and headed back to start the hike again.

Nice hike down into the gorge and not too difficult. The rain made the descent a bit slick but we made it. The walk along the bottom of the gorge to the falls was very nice today. The light rain and promise of a big storm really added to the atmosphere in the gorge. The waterfall was not really too big today although I am sure it got pretty big after we left. The flames were burning after all so that adventure was for nothing.

Stopped to play in the area, climb the falls, take a lot of pictures, and just enjoy the area before deciding to head back and grab the two caches along the trail to this one. E-mail sent.

This was just an all-around amazing cache. Spectacular subject matter, incredible area, and very nice hike to the location earn this one a spot on my favorites list.

Photos posted to the Earthcache on gc.com but I don't think I have copies of them any longer to post here.

Note 26 Sept 2007    Onondaga Escarpment #2; Glen Falls Virtual  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Found the EC but have not completed the requirements for this one.

I found it! 27 Jun 2007    Cemetery Run  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

Found while out running around Crawford County with ErieCacher, Dr.RX, and LittlePaCacher.

Really great trails hidden here in the cemetary. I had this one on the route for the last time I was in the Meadville area but had to skipped it because of time constraints. I had to take a different approach than the one I had initally planned due to the company today. This is a great cemetary and a very cool set of trails. I may have to come back and try coming in from the way I had planned before.

Took: Nothing.

I found it! 27 May 2007    Wingardium Leviosa  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

Found while out caching on a beautiful day in the Amherst/Lockport area with Mr. Midnight.

Took us a while to get to where we needed to be to get to this cache with out lots of bushwacking.
Mr. Midnight made use of the small stream to clean all the mud off his shoes.
Cool container in a very nice area.

I found it! 27 May 2007    Dann Rd #2 AKA First Son of Multiplicity  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

Found while out caching on a beautiful day in the Amherst/Lockport area with Mr. Midnight.

Nice walk back here and even though I had an idea the lake was there I was caught off guard by how nice the area was. It was a bit sad to see that from where the trail opens up at the lake all the way to the cache the trail is all broken glass. Now that I have uploaded my waypoints and routes I am looking at the lake on my mapping software and I am once again caught off guard by how big it is. I did not realize until now that we were only looking at a little bit of it.

Cache was in good shape and hard to reach.
Longer arms would have been nice.

I found it! 27 May 2007    Dann Rd.'s 1st cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

Found while out caching on a beautiful day in the Amherst/Lockport area with Mr. Midnight.

Parked here for the three caches and I seem to have missed something and screwed up the order of these.
Did Steve's, came back for this one, and then went back in for Dann #2.

Pretty quick find but there were quite a few possible spots.
To future seekers: The yellowjackets seem to have moved in close to the cache already.

I found it! 12 Feb 2007    mouse's tree house, by the Gamehendge Rangers  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Out for a winter caching fix with Gerwalin and this was to be cache 2 of two attempted. The first was Heard It Through The Grapevine and we realized that we were already parked in the correct spot to go do this one, too. So we struck out into the cold again. In retrospect it seems a bad idea hiking the whole way up the creek not knowing how deep it was and that the ice was really not sturdy enought to walk on. Many blind steps were punctuated by loud cracks and pops and rifts forming in the snow in various directions. I only fell in a couple times only on foot at a time and the water was not any deeper than my boots so that was not too much of a problem just perhaps not the best idea. We found a goods spot to bail on the creek bed when the ice started getting very thin and at that point we were down to a few hundred feet so we hopped out and made up a pretty steep section of hill. From there we followed the ridge along to ground zero and found the cache in short order. Once again this one was frozen in place and it took a good deal of effort to get in to it and get it open. That made two for two on a freezing winter evening. I ran a TB through and we headed back to the car. Thanks for the awesome cache and a great winter caching fix.

I found it! 13 Aug 2006    STEAMSHIP ERIE - On The Seaway Trail  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Really nice spot. Found the cache on a quick run into New York. Did not realize whose cache is was until seeing the container. Some people at the nearby eating establishment gave us odd looks as I tried to see if I could make it from this one to the next one that was not far away but did happen to have more water than I was willing to contend with in the way. Sun was setting while I was there and it was a rather nice hide. Thanks, Strol.
