CACHE LOGS - May contain hints(spoilers)!   decode

I found it! 29 Jun 2005    qui est cache`?  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

It's not about the numbers, but I got there first! LOL My first FTF in quite a while.. Trying to get back into the swing of caching in Rochester and not 100's of miles away all the time.. Nice cache.. I will say I got a bit freaked out, I had been here before and knew which trail to take, but upon entering the woods I saw a man about 25 yards ahead of me and my Mom, looking closer I also saw he had a HUGE SHARP machete. (big knife thingy) He was cutting down small trees and had them all tied in a bundle. We immdiatly turned around.... We didn't leave though just took another trail. HAHA true cachers, even a whacko with a giant knife wont deter us from a possible FTF!

I found it! 22 Mar 2004    Nor Any Drop To Drink  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2.5 )

Where to even begin, I'm not sure. I have made at least a half a dozen trips out here with lots of different people (who are all now certain I am out of my mind!) The last time I was out here.. Whenever my last DNF log is.. I was way off in coordinates but in walking around back there I actually passed within feet of the cache, but because night had fallen and I had cut my face in several places after a brush with a thorn plant I didn't see, I ended up calling the search quits right at the very cache location.
So after yet another email with Cenobite I deduced the final coordinates, through no skill of my own. I guess the lesson I learned here is don't overthink, it does me in every time. So equipped with the right coordinates I headed off on this nice and warm spring day. When I left the car the thermometer was pushing 20 degrees! So off I headed. Within 40 feet or so of the cache, as I was walking along, I heard that crinkling noise one never wants to hear in the winter. The ice I was apparently walking on (covered by a few inches of snow) was breaking. Well I headed for a patch of higher ground near by, but not before the hole in the ice claimed my foot. Under the water was lots of muck and goo. In getting my boot unstuck I fell onto my knees, landing both my hands in the freezing cold water. Water ran into my boots freezing my feet as well. Did I mention it was 20 degrees out? Well after getting out of that mess I was about 30ft from the cache according to the GPS, so I figured I might as well try to find it.

After several minutes of poking around turned up nothing I was getting discouraged fast. There was a bunch of snow back there and I dug out everywhere I thought I a cache might be. Nothing, nothing, nothing. So I climbed around and tried to look from another angle. Even though that meant standing in some water, at this point I didn't care, I just wanted to find the cache. I looked some more, and was just about to give up when one of my footprints in the snow got my attention. There was something sticking out of the side of it, the cache! Finally! I signed and stamped the log pretty quickly. I left my brand new signature item, and took the body warmer, which has been put to good use. Also grabbed the two travel bugs.

All in all, it was another great adventure. This cache was the closest to my house, it is now replaced with "Henpecked" I think I will wait to nice dry, warm summer day to attempt! Thanks for getting me out of the house on this nice ..... 20 degree day.

Forthwith this frame of mine was wrenched
With a woful agony,
Which forced me to begin my tale ;
And then it left me free.

I found it! 04 Jan 2004    Earth Day Celebration '02  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

This has to be the officially creepiest cache I have ever been to. Several factors came into play. I arrived at the parking coordinates at sunset (16:47 or thereabouts.) This is the first cache I ever done "alone" I guess everyone I know is finally sick of caching . So that was a factor as well, I did however bring my Newfoundland Dog , upon entering the woods there was a deer about 25ft in front of Tugs (my dog) and I, yelled "shoo, deer, shoo" and the deer just looked at me like I was crazy! I yelled a little louder "bang! bang!" thinking maybe that would scare it, no dice. So Tugs and I proceeded up the path, the deer ran off, but only about 20 ft back into the woods. As we walked further away I could hear more leaves rustling so I looked back... The deer was still about 20ft away from us as we approached the cache the deer was still following us... I quickly retrieved the cache (which is the biggest container I have ever seen) made my trade, logged in, and stamped the book. I wanted to take a photo of me and my dog with the cache box since it was our first solo flight, I was setting up the timer on the camera and Tugs jumped up.. The deer was closer then ever! So I forgot about the picture, returned the cache, and beat it out of there. Just by the trailhead I turned around for one last look at the deer which was, of course, still following us. I snapped a photo of the deer, but because it is dark you can only see it's eyes. Creepy, creepy, creepy! All of that aside I had a really good time, thanks for the cache!

I found it! 03 Jan 2004    Blackjack Barge Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 3 )

Well we walked to this cache from a parking area as the crow flies.. Bad choice. Talk about making an easy cache into a sticky situation! Enjoyed it none the less. The cache itself is really exposed, looked for something to cover it up more with, but couldnt find anything suitable. Maybe some rocks? Anyway totally cool location for a cache, I drive by here all the time, but had never seen this area. Took the watch and left a multi purpose tool. Thanks :)

I couldn 01 Jan 2004    Badge Adventure cache!  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Couldn't find it. Will hopefully give it another go in the daylight. We did run into some other cachers in the park who were looking for the Watership Down cache. I always like seeing other cachers on the trail!

Try, Try Again!

I found it! 01 Jan 2004    Creeks Edge Cache!  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Happy New Years! Found the cache on this nice January day! There was alot of activity in the park today, I guess because of the unseasonably warm (40 degrees!) weather we are having (no complaints here) we saw 3 deer run across the path on our way to the cache, and also saw a few labs and bull dog. :) Found the cache after a few minutes of looking. Sure is sitting right in plain site! There are heavy tire marks running about 35 ft east of the cache where some people must be doing some 4-wheeling or something, but the cache was in great shape, stuffed to the brim! We took a sticker and left some pencils and erasers. Thanks for this cool location and a chance to see a park that is just down the road from us. We will definitely be back to do some walking here.

I found it! 28 Dec 2003    The Old Farm  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3 )

First to Find on this nice December afternoon. I tried out my new Christmas GPS, a MeriPlat. I used the directRoute program to get here, but ended up lost! Luckily I knew where I was going anyway, and found the park. Parked on Hubbel St and bushwhacked to the cache, following some deer trail part of the way. Found the cache in it's totally cool hiding spot and took the TRAIL back to the car. . Isn't that always the way? :) On our way back to the path from the cache location an old man was wandering down the path, he sure looked surprised! I turned around around as we were a little farther up the trail to see him peeking into the bushes where we had come out. Don't know what he thought he was gonna see.. On the way back to the car we saw deer feeding in the field across the way, and it was so clear we could see the lake. Anyway, totally neat hiding place. Thanks for the cache! I love that park! Once back to the car I did a GOTO for my house, and the directroute software did lead me right home, so I decided I made an error on the way to the park turning on the wrong street! Anyway.... Thanks! Cache you later!

I will be replacing the "Message" this week. And the bottle too if needed. :)

I found it! 08 Nov 2003    Cache Jubilee  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3 )

What a beautiful little park!! Loved it!! Found this cache, with little trouble after a bit of a hike. Fingers, noses and ears were freezing, guess winter is here . My mother, Grandmother, and young cousin all came along for this one. We all enjoyed it very much. Took the Mickey TB and will speed him on his way in no time (I wish I was heading to Florida!) The log book is full so we left a new log book with a red cover. The plastic ziploc bag the logbook it's in needs to be replaced. Other then that the cache is in great shape! Thanks for the hide, we have always enjoyed doing your caches, they were most of our first ones. You could say doing your caches got us hooked on caching. We had been wanting to this one for a while, but never did. Glad we were finally able to. Also nabbed some locationless finds while in the area. We hope you guys are still caching and plant some new ones in the future!

Cache #100!! Woohoo!! Great Event, had a wonderful time!! Nice to meet some new cachers, and see some old (hehe) ones as well.. Very well put together event, enjoyed the event cache, and the caches in the park as well, only got to do a few, so we have plenty left for a return trip. Signed log and picked up Junkyard Dog Toy TB.
Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this day a success!!

I found it! 18 Oct 2003    Gibsonville Doublet  ( Difficulty: 4    Terrain: 2.5 )

Very nice cache, loved the suprise picked this cache cause we didnt want to do a multi! Nice little walk, very scenic, took tons of pictures. Walked along the water right up to the edge of the waterfall (don't ask) then headed for the cache. Found it with little trouble. Met a nice couple on the trail with two dogs and two babies in backpacks, they were very nice.. Thanks for the cache, enjoyed it and then headed back to the picnic for lunch!

I found it! 18 Oct 2003    Penny's Point  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2.5 )

3rd of day while at the Letchworth Fall Picnic II.. Yikes! Quite an interesting drive to this one! Loved every minute!! Saw quite a few people along the road. Once we finally arrived at the cache site we found it without any toruble at all, though it was well hidden. Your dog picked a good spot! Thanks for the cache!

I found it! 16 Oct 2003    Warning (I Shall Wear Purple)  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2.5 )

First of six for the day, found it with Junglehair (though she gave no hints) . Very cool cache, loved the theme and loved the cache container! Took purple carabiner clip, left purple nail polish. Great spot!

I found it! 16 Oct 2003    Highland Park Cache (ARCHIVED)  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

2nd of the day. Came with JH. Nice hide, there was some guy washing his car on the main road, probably wondered what we were up to (I wondered what he was up to!) Found it without any trouble, fall is so beautiful, this park has some great views!

I found it! 16 Oct 2003    Global Geocache (ARCHIVED)  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

4th of the day.. Came out with Junglehair as i reach for 100 (so close so close). Nice little park, night was falling fast as we got to the cache location. Very cool location, you could definetly look right past this spot. Nice park too, in warmer weather this is a good place to bring the dogs swimming. We passed some fishermen on the way out, but they hadnt had any luck. Also there was some kind of men only barbecue.. smelled good! Anyway..... Thanks for the cache!

I found it! 16 Oct 2003    Genesee Valley Park I (ARCHIVED)  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

5th of the day! Night had fallen by the time Junglehair and I got here, got out the flashlights and headed toward the cache! This was my first real night cache (on purpose anyway) not sure, but I think I prefer the daylight Found it after a little looking, and headed out.. Always an adventure even a short way from the car! Jotted down the coordinates for #2 will be back to do that one sometime soon I hope!

I found it! 13 Oct 2003    Hayley's Cosmo  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Found this cache after Colby's secret. What a great time of the year for caching! The leaves are beautiful the air is crisp!! We saw lots of horseshoe prints on the ground on the paths, but we didnt see any horses. My little cousin spotted the cache from the trail. He was happy to finally beat me to finding one . Team Durant left a camera in the cache but about 5-6 of the pictures have been taken we put it in the baggie with the log book. Took the monster truck and washcloth, and left bubbles and marbles.
-Team OurWoods

I found it! 17 Sept 2003    Guess Who-Oak Openings  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Came down to the HF area specifically to do this cache, and we weren't disappointed. The trail was actually pretty easy to follow as there were truck tracks to walk in. The sats were a little jumpy at first, but once they settled down we had no troubles finding the cache! Thanks for bringing this area to our attention, we took a bunch of pictures, and took time to read all the signs and papers all around. Thanks for the hide!
-Team OurWoods

ps. really liked Bangeo's stamp.

I found it! 17 Sept 2003    Oh Canada (ARCHIVED)  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

Fifth of six for the day. I have been dieing to do this cache for quite some time, but somehow managed to come quite unprepared today! I knew this was a letterbox hybrid, but managed to come without my log book, so I was stuck stamping the print-out. :( Oh well, at least I had my stamp with me. I had meant to bring a CD from my favorite band, Barenaked Ladies, but I forgot that as well. We were following directions from MS S&T which brings you to within about 100-150 feet from the cache, with a pedestrain entrance but no apparent parking. Took us a few minutes to figure out where the parking was on this one! Quite a nice little park. The coords were dead on, and the sat reception was great (for the first time today) so we made short work of this one. Cache is in great shape, though rather visible. We left Happy Ball Travel Bug here, we picked him up in Canada last week. He is trying to get to Colorado, so he would appreciate a ride out west. I enjoyed the cache, but was rather disgusted when I picked up a piece of bark to put over the cache and felt something wet.. I looked at what is was (big mistake!) and saw the biggest slug I had ever seen! Put the bark over the cache and made a bee line for the wash room! Yuck! Nonetheless, thanks for the hide and the pleasant walk.

I found it! 15 Sept 2003    Country Wheels  ( Difficulty: 3.5    Terrain: 3 )

Found it! Finally! This cache has been the bain of my caching existance for months now.. It was the closest cache to my house not found, (now replaced with henpecked which i think ill save for a while :P ) but the most challenging one I've had in quite a while. I had previously tried to complete this cache several times, without any luck. I finally emailed cenobite07 who helped me realize I had messed up the math (and reversed N/W somehow). So after finally realizing what I was doing wrong we completed it without a problem. I must say following the correct coordinates to the artifacts was alot easier then all the bush whacking we had been doing. The funny thing is even though we had the coords wrong, it still brought us to an artifact that was quite interesting, so at least we got to do a little sight seeing while being lost.
Does anyone know the history of this park? There sure is alot of big junk in the woods back there. Between our several visits we must have seen 3 old old cars or tractors, several plow type of things, and the remnants of an old building. Was this a farm then went bust? A junk yard.. If anyone knows drop me a note.

Thanks to cenobite07 for this cache, and all the time it must have taken to get it all together, I have enjoyed my several visits, even when we were wandering pointlessly around. I really enjoyed Artifact 3, that was really cool. Took the screen protector for sportrak and left silly putty and magic cards.

I found it! 08 Sept 2003    Hilton Apple Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

First! Our first, first :-) Saw this listed on Buxley's and headed right out. There were a few teenagers in the area heading home from school down the path the cache is on, but we waited for them to leave then headed right to it. Found with no problems, coords were right on! Tried to cover our tracks as well (sort of hard on this one), so to the next cachers try to cover the path to the cache so the school kids wont just see it on their way home from school. Thanks for the cache!

I must say, this is the most pleasant smelling cache I've ever found.

I found it! 07 Sept 2003    MC-Square  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Had 45 minutes to kill and saw this cache was just down the road from where I was. So I thought, why not! Good cache to pick too, as I had dress clothes on. I must have taken the easy trail (a first)! Found the cache with no problems, though i did manage to get hitchhikers all over my pants. TNLN. Very clever hiding spot. Just as we were coming back to the car (we had parked on the road) a cop came around, not sure if we were parked legally or not, least we made it out in time! Thanks for the hide!

I found it! 05 Sept 2003    Watership Down  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

oi! Found all three parts today, the first part wasnt that bad, but..... The second part our coords were off by 50 feet, we were looking and looking and said ok 5 more minutes with 2 minutes to go i thought hmm... ill look over here, just in case.. And thats right where was! Always the last place, eh? Found the final points with ease. At the final cache place, again the GPS was over 100 feet off, but as I was walking down the trail I actually spotted the cache out of the corner of my eye, lucky for me I suppose, as that saved me any real searching. The cache is jam packed full of goodies! We took a rabbit figure, and left some gloves. We saw a rabbit on the trail on the path near part 2 and that made us smile! The deep woods off in the cache should perhaps be moved to the first location :P I had sprayed myself before we left, but my mom didn't. She regretted it as the skeeters are still out in full force! Left the Neon TB. Thanks for the cache!

-Team OurWoods

I found it! 30 Aug 2003    Bookcrossing with Basil  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

Found it without a problem. The problem is the cache itself though. The case is cracked and there was a rip in the plastic bag. Most of the books are swollen and molding. There are probably 2-3 books that are still salvagable if the owner would go and replace the cache container and bag. Maybe an idea would be to put the books in ziploc bags to keep them dry? The only thing not really wet was the log book. The few books that were semi dry we tried to move out of the water. This cache needs serious attention! TNLNSL

I found it! 29 Aug 2003    Geodecache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 1.5 )

This was a terrible day for caching, I think I was out of my mind doing this. Rain, heavy clouds, and fog aside we headed off down the trail! Found the cache at 8pm! The satts were barely there, but eventually it did get a lock and bring us to the obvious area where the cache would be. It was so dark I couldnt even see the cache, and of course we had no flashlights. I did remember my camera though, so I pointed it where I thought the cache might be, and saw it when the flash went off! Problem solving with that one! Couldn't really see to trade anything, did take the travel bug though. There were two log books, and there were recent dates on both of them (within days).. So the owner might want to remove the one they don't want written in. The trail there was not that hard to follow, but going back out in complete darkness with no lights did up the difficulty. The satts were getting worse, we coudln't find the trail, and the only light we had to shine was the camera! (The red eye reducer actually worked pretty well as a light!) After wandering in a big circle, I managed to get a 2D sat lock and find our way back out. The darkness really made me lose sense of where I was :-( Anyway... thanks for the hide! And make sure to bring a flashlight if you choose to cache in the evening!

I found it! 26 Aug 2003    Message in a Bottle  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Came back today to finish the cache. It was cold but the sun was out, so that was nice, quite a bit of people around for Earth Day I suppose cleaning things up and what not. The people thinned out as we headed back towards the cache, found it with relative ease, everything looked good. Took some trinkets and left some behind. Thanks for the hide!

The coordinates were exactly right, too bad my gps didnt know that, we went so far out of the way I wont even say it (though we got to talking and werent paying much attention.) We had planned on doing at least one more cache in the area but night came quickly after our arduous hike through the pouring rain (it was nice out until we opened our car doors). We didn't give up though, as you said, and eventually found it. We traded a belt clip and a hot wheel for an elephant toy (DW collects elephants) and a NZ coin. The trails here were great, a wrong turn and we saw a weird little teepee thing, intesting, not sure what it was there for. Also saw some baby frogs or toads, and some giant mosquitoes, whoever is next should definetly bring some bug spray! We took some pictures, not sure if they turned out, will post them later.
Thanks again!

I found it! 03 May 2003    Lupin's Treasure  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

This is the cache thats closest to my house (for now anyway!) and as such I have wanted to go it for a long time. I started caching in January and everytime I ever went to the park it was chained up and closed so I waited and waited. I must say however the wait was worth it. We headed out today to try to do a couple of the more local caches, and decided to give this one another shot. The park was open so we drove in. We parked in the little parking lot and nearly directly in front of us was the largest pair of pheasants I have seen, and really the only pair I have ever seen (never seen the hen before.) We took a few pictures, but they didnt turn out so well. We watched them til they disappeared into the brush. We got out of the car and climbed the bird view platform, and gazed out over the water. Saw swans, swifts, red winged blackbirds, and many other delightful creatures. There were swifts EVERYWHERE!! I couldnt get over how many there were! There were workers out cleaning up damage from the storm, but they paid us no mind. The GPS was dead on, took us right to the first waypoint, then straight on to the second, it never missed a beat, so that was nice as well. Found the cache in good shape, with little trouble, though if you take a harder route in then needed (we did) your feet may end up a bit muddy. Took the soap and left a knife. Looked over all the items in the cache very interesting. Thanks for a very unique cache, and in a great little park.

I found it! 03 May 2003    Huckleberry Island  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3 )

[I guess now I finally see the need for a good topo map! This cache is easily one of the most difficult I've done to date.] I must say sometimes a straight line isnt the fastest route (live and learn.) [I am glad I did it however, now, rather then later after the foliage came out. Talk about tricky!] We picked our way back through the swamp for what seemed like hours and hours (felt a bit like Frodo going through the swamps with Sam and Gollum). The paths seemed to start and then just disapear, but [we finally made it back to the cache and found the cache container with relative ease (for which we were very happy. There were some beautiful knobby old trees by the cache (ents?) I wish now I had taken their picture! Looking through the log book I saw someone had found the cache by accident, which I cant even imagine! We somehow managed to follow the the same] very indistinct[path back out w/o using the gps, I am glad I did however as we had somehow managed to drop my brand new GPS case into the muck =( I was glad to find it, we then continued back to the car. Thanks for the very very interesting hike back into an area we had seen on the map but otherwise would have never visited. The area back by the cache is very beautiful. Thanks for the hide!

I found it! 26 Apr 2003    Casey's "The Steve Irwin Experience" Cache  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3 )

Came for the express purpose of picking up the Lilliputian Yellow Travel Bug, it was not in the cache. Someone had logged the cache just before me today, but it didnt look like they had taken it. Ah well, enjoyed the short walk and the hiding place where the cache was, was very clever. Thanks for the hide.

I found it! 25 Apr 2003    Your boots were made for cachin'  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 2 )

Nice walk must say furthest walk in to a cache yet, but well worth it. We saw a heron, a kingfisher, and a cardinal on the way, so that was nice. Took several pictures not sure if they turned out. Quite alot of people around had to wait some minutes for them to clear out. Found the general location of the cache without much trouble, but the actual hiding spot kept us guessing for some time. Cache was certainly well stocked with nice things we took a couple kid toys and replaced them with such. Thanks!

Second time looking out here ,there is some type of construction going on in the area. We will now wait to see if the cache is still there. =)

I found it! 19 Apr 2003    A Hawks View  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

Stopped by this cache as we were in the nature area doing the Migration Days Events.. Stopped by the blind and saw that, learned some very interesting facts. The trail to the cache was muddy muddy muddy. However the warm weather and light breeze more then made up for a little mud on our boots, quite a nice change. Found the cache around 4pm, it was just sitting right out in plain site, didnt take any searching at all. The cache was in great shape we took the pencil sharpener and beanie baby zebra, Left WG$, sewing kit and car. We put it back in the same area, just hidden from site a bit more. Thanks for the hide!!

I found it! 16 Mar 2003    It's as easy as ABC  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Found the cache with relative ease, after a bit of tramping through the snow. Snow has melted quite a bit since the last time we tried to find it (couple weeks ago), at which point it was totally under snow, today it was partially visible, for which I was glad. No more digging out caches (yay). Took Beach Cards and Seeds left WG$ and gloves.
Thanks for the hide, nice little park.

I found it! 10 Feb 2003    Winged Things  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

What a day for our second find! With every step we took the snow fell harder and harder. The snow was about 6-8 inches deep and covered our boots as we walked up to the cache! Found the cache with relative ease around 1.30pm, it is still in great condition, plenty of things inside. We saw the body of the Estes Rocket that Lupin saw the nose cone to. Took angel figurine, left butterfly hairclips. If anyone plans to journey to this site they should probably wait a week or two as our deep footprints will lead you right there! Thanks for the great two part adventure, we will defenitely be heading back this spring to explore the trails of that park a bit more, as it is fairly close to our house. Thanks Again!
