Note 05 Apr 2003    NanoTek  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

The cache has been pilfered. The last cacher left it in a location which was not safe enough.

I have decided not to replace the NanoTek cache. Instead, I'll be creating a different cache in a better location. The new version will also present a greater challenge. Thanks for those of you who have taken the time to go after NanoTek in the past.

I found it! 19 Mar 2003    1856 Mule Path  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Brogan and I started early this morning on our way to Fawcow'ee Challenge. As we were heading down the road, we made a pitstop for this cache. I could not help noticing some great hiding spots alongside of the canal. Finding the cache was no problem in spite of the GPS pointing me to thorn bushes all the time ;-)

Thanks for a very nice early morning hunt!

I found it! 19 Mar 2003    Bullhead Cache  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 2 )

After a short hike on the slippery trails around the bog, finding the cache was the easy part. Loosening the box from the ice was a completly different story. Brogan and I worked on it for about an hour. Good thing he had his pocket knife with him too. He used it as a makeshift ice pick until we finally were able to pry it out. Pfewww! The things we do for a find... Thanks for the icy hunt!

I found it! 19 Mar 2003    FawCow'ee Challenge  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 4.5 )

Brogan and I were on a mission to rescue a travel bug stranded in this cache. So off we went. Crossing the creek was no problem even at this time of the year with all the snow melting. And no, we didn't hitch a ride in the hoodlebug either. Where's the challenge in that??? Instead of using the trail all the way up, we decided to have a bit of fun and we bee-lined to the top. That was the real challenge. The hill was very icy and covered with leaves. We managed to make it up the hill thanks to the trees serving as footholds and handholds. Once at the top of the hill, finding the cache was easy. We rescued the bug, signed the log and Brogan took a few pictures. The way back down was easier but I almost impaled my hand on a branch. Fortunately I had a pair of gloves on. They took the abuse instead of me! Finally, we had to stop to check out the hoodlebug closely. This thing is something else! I can see why people get a kick out of riding it. Thanks for a challenging cache and a fun time.

Note 19 Mar 2003    FawCow'ee Challenge  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 4.5 )

For the sake of fairness, I would appreciate it if this cache could be listed on geocaching.com too. The fact that a travel bug (not a hitchhiker) was stuck there for so long and can't even collect a mile for it kinda sucks.

I found it! 19 Mar 2003    Stony Brook State Park Geocache  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 3 )

I took the short way in from the top on this one since I was a bit pressed for time today ;-) Finding the cache was easy but it looks like it was moved from its original spot. Thanks for the hunt in this nice park.

I found it! 19 Mar 2003    Klipnocky State Forest Geocache  ( Difficulty: 4.5    Terrain: 3 )

After Fawcow'ee's challenge and a few other caches today, Brogan and I were warmed up and ready to give this one a shot. Just finding the place was interesting but with topo maps loded in the GPSr, we got to the area w/o too much trouble. Once there, we took the shortest path to the cache which requires crossing a creek. That part was made interesting by the strength of the stream fed by the melting snow. Next, the hike up the hill in the deep snow also made for a good workout. Brogan found the cache in minutes once we got to the top, proof that 2 GPSrs are better than one ;-) Thanks for a nice cache and a great hike.

Note 19 Mar 2003    PollyWogg Holler  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1 )

Wow! What an awesome place! Finding the cache is only half the fun... I found this cache by night but I wish I could have seem the area by daylight. The sculptures looked amazing even in the dark. Brogan and I actually wanted to get a pizza at Pollywogg Holler but oddly enough, the restaurant was closed today. Brogan gave me a tour of this wonderful jewel of a place where it seems possible to forget about the rest of the world. I know I will come back soon to enjoy it fully. Thanks for placing a cache there! I took the travel bug and left my footprints in the snow.

Note 14 Mar 2003    Wired! v2.0  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3.5 )

'Wired!' is dead!
Long live 'Wired! v2.0' !

If you have completed the first version of 'Wired!' in the past, feel free to try this new version and log it. It is completly different and presents a more interesting challenge in a new and different location.

Note 17 Feb 2003    Wired! v2.0  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 3.5 )

I went to check on the cache today, and it turns out that the tree under which the cache was placed has collapsed. As a result, the cache and its contents have been crushed :(

I'll recreate the cache shortly and will find a new home for it.

I found it! 31 Jan 2003    Gnomes Lair  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 3 )

What a perfect day for winter caching today! I headed out with the snowshoes on the trail to Gnomes Lair. I figured I would avoid the legendary mud of this cache considering that everything is frozen solid ;-) As I hit the trail I met with 2 cross country skiers and their dog. When they saw the GPS, a simple greeting turned into a detailed discussion about GeoCaching: I think we have 2 new converts :)

I followed the trail for the most part but took a little shortcut on the way in. I had to cross a little stream, but nothing bad even with the snowshoes. I did follow the trail on the way back to see more of the park.

I found the cache w/o any trouble: a nice slide on the snow got me to it in seconds. What a good hide for it! I loved the little sign hanging from the 'ceiling' of the lair. Best of all, there was NO mud!

I took nothing but a 'Finders Token Slip' and left nothing but my entry in the logbook and a print with my stamp. The cache itself is in great shape except for some ice inside caused by condensation.

I took the last picture on the camera.

I found it! 25 Jan 2003    Beaver Meadows #2  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 2 )

Second cache of the night with Brogan coming from Beaver Meadow #1. This time, the GPS led me almost straight to the cache in spite of the cold for an easy find even in the snow.

What a high-quality cache! I took the book About Place and left a jade coin and a mini tape measure.

Thanks for another cool hunt.

I found it! 25 Jan 2003    Beaver Meadow  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

First cache of the night with Brogan. This one was quite a challenge to do with the cold, the snow and the tree cover messing with the GPS. I finally had to use the hint to find it. I took the Monsters Inc. keychain and left a Peace & Love keychain shaped like a cube.

Note to the next cacher: at night and in the snow, it's important to mark the position of the small bridge on your way to the cache.

Thanks for challenging hunt!

I found it! 25 Jan 2003    Wyoming County Forest #1  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

Third cache and last cache of the night with Brogan coming from 'Beaver Meadow #2'. The trail leading to the cache made for a nice workout in the snow. Once again, the cold was messing with the LCD screen of the GPS but we finally located the cache after a short search of the area. The cache setup reminded me of 'Up Up & Away' by Balloon Pilot. Very nicely done! TNLNSL.

After this cache, we called it a night and headed back for Byrncliff Resort to warm up with a few drinks :)

Thanks for the great night out caching!

I found it! 14 Dec 2002    Olmsted #1 - The Park  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1.5 )

4th cache of the day. That one was a trip! I walked right to the cache but did not search the hide well enough and moved on. I ended up searching the area for about 30 minutes only to end up back at the same spot where I started :-) I took nothing but a picture (19 left) and signed the log book. I picked up the SPPIA's Favorite TB. Thanks for the great hunt!

I found it! 14 Dec 2002    Olmsted #1c - The Park  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1.5 )

2nd cache of the day! A good hide but it didn't take me long before homing on it. I placed my signature sticker in the logbook and signed it. I left the Beaver Meadow Scout SUV TB and picked up the Mini-Magellan TB ;-). Just a short drive around the park for Beaver Meadow, only slightly closer to its goal...

I found it! 14 Dec 2002    Olmsted #4 - The Parade  ( Difficulty: 2    Terrain: 1 )

1st cache of the day. I loved the creative cloaking device for that one :) I placed my trademark stamp in the log book. Thanks for the hunt.

I found it! 09 Dec 2002    Olmsted #3b - Cazenovia Park  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

A nice brisk day, perfect for a cache hunt :) Had no problem locating the cache which was really well hidden. I was a little worried about being so 'visible' from the nearby bridge while searching for the ammo box and signing the logbook. I guess that's the price that we have to pay for winter caching. I took nothing and left nothing. However, I dropped off the Football Frenzy TB and picked up the Travel Bug Beaver Meadow Scout SUV TB. Thanks for the nice hunt!

I found it! 06 Dec 2002    Sons of Buffalo  ( Difficulty: 1    Terrain: 1 )

A very interesting 'cache' indeed for history buffs. I almost turned into an icicle writing all the facts down today! Thanks for this 'urban jungle' hunt :)

I found it! 16 Nov 2002    Olmsted #2 - South Park  ( Difficulty: 3    Terrain: 2 )

A cold and snowy day today, still good enough to go caching. I figured I'd try your cache which is really close to my house. After a short walk though the park (no one around today), I easily located the trail and followed the clues to the cache area (saw a deer was grazing right by the cache). I had to try a few spots before finally locating the cache, which took me about 20 minutes of searching. The snow made it even more interesting. I took 2 pictures of myself (#10 & #11 I believe) and signed the log book. I took nothing and left nothing. Thanks for the good time outside :-)

I found it! 14 Nov 2002    Up Up and Away  ( Difficulty: 2.5    Terrain: 1.5 )

Since it was such a nice day today, I decided to bag my second cache of the day. So I headed for Up Up and Away right after finishing Nicely Done! further up 240. I had no problem finding the location except for a bit of signal loss in the woods leading to it. It then took me a few circles around the cache to locate it. Very cool idea! I will borrow it for one of my future caches. I signed the log book, took an army chopper and left a small flashlight w/ batteries included ;-) Thanks for this cache and the great time outdoors!

I found it! 13 Nov 2002    ETERNAL FLAMES FALLS  ( Difficulty: 1.5    Terrain: 3 )

I really enjoyed the short hike from the parking spot to the cache. The falls are quite beautiful and so is the park. It took me a few passes around the site before locating the cache (using more common sense and less of the GPS ;-) because I think that the coordinates posted on the site are a bit off. So after I located the cache, I took my time and waited to get some great satellite coverage to record a waypoint right above the cache (WAAS averaged). See the coordinates assigned to this log. I hope this helps. I signed to log book, took nothing and left nothing.

Thank you for the great time outdoors!
