Before there was a Del Webb or a Safeway, there was the Ferrari Ranch. Founded in 1929 by Paul Ferrari Sr., the ranch started out as a dairy farm and eventually became a cattle ranch.
At its peak it covered over 740 acres and held 1400 head of cattle.
Its boundaries ran from Hwy 65 along Auburn Ravine to Hwy 193 to the cold-war era Lincoln Titan missile site. From there it ran west to Hwy 65 a quarter mile south of the present site of Safeway. You can still see the original fence posts from the highway.
It was about a quarter of the area now known as Sun City Lincoln Hills. Del Webb bought the property in the late 90's.
Of the original land mass, just 26 acres remain in the hands of the Ferrari family and that parcel is currently in escrow to be sold to a developer.

The cache is located at the terminus of the Ferrari Ranch operation next to Auburn Ravine. It was deeded to the City of Lincoln by Del Webb as it was deemed unsuitable for development owing to flooding problems. The City has stated it will eventually turn it into a parkway.
Check out the surroundings as you imagine the sights and smells of a cattle ranch while looking south over the rolling grassy range watching the cattle grazing.
Feel free to take one of the "herd" with you. Other types of ranch/farm/barnyard animals are welcome !
Warning: Most of the structure surrounding this cache is rotting away. Do not attempt to walk or climb on any aspect of the structure as it may collapse leading to serious injury. As always, keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and poisonous spiders.
Directions: From Rocklin, Take Hwy 65 North to Ferrari Ranch Road in Lincoln, head east about 1/2 mile.
Have Fun !
