Comments:
The cache was placed in November, when leaves are off the vegetation and it is difficult to identify. Poison ivy is common in the park, and is likely present in the cache area, but I couldn't be sure. Proper precautions are suggested in spring and summer.

This cache located in Oatka Creek Park, near Scottsville, NY, and replaces the original Gypsum Mine cache, which was stolen in October, 2002. It's placed not far from the original site, but in a less travelled area. The gypsum mine theme is retained, since it is less than 180 feet from the remains of an old mine building that still contains some artifacts of the late 19th to early 20th century mine operations.

The cache consists of a .30 cal ammo box, painted black, and the initial contents include some bungee cords, a nature sounds CD, a couple of Matchbox cars, a tape measure/level tool, some other doodads, and of course, a logbook. The box is well concealed in an open wooded area.

The cache area is down a poorly defined, little used trail, about 200 to 300 feet off the main path. There is a visible feature that the trail is coincident with.

If you select a souvenir of your visit, please exchange with an item of similar value, so searchers who follow will also find something worthwhile trading.

Please replace the cache exactly as found, with as little disturbance to the surrounding area as possible.

My wife and I decided to search for a few caches in this Park today because it was a place neither of us had been before. This was our first of 6 finds we were to make. The weather was fine when we arrived but before we left the park 3 1/2 hours later about an inch of snow had fallen. We located the cache right away and I was so surprised to find a deer antler in there that I had put in another cache back in May of this year, so I reclaimed it for a future cache. In trade I left a couple of carabineers. I also found a POW*MIA coin in the cache box. This coin wasn't listed so I will try to get it registered. Thanks for for a great caching experience in a beautiful well maintained park. -Paleoman52-

Found this on my way out as well. When we went into the park the search and rescue dogs were there so we must of just missed TMACAA. Easy cache, with Osbert and my cousin. Left the seagull TB. TFTC. (gc.com-byrnedfish)

This was our second of five in this area. We rode our bikes as far as we could then walked the rest of the way to the cache. We looked for some time before we found it. We traded a football card for a hotwheel.

The only critters we saw were live, inluding the two happy dogs in our search party. Lucky dogs even got a swim! Just like at Deer Crossing, we ended up at exactly the same place we'd searched in the fall and then found the cache with minimal fuss. Geesh. It makes me feel kinda silly about the failure last time. I took a big troll and a button, and left something nice and a sealed Snap (of Crackle and Pop fame) spinning top toy. I forget what my nice thing was but I hope I traded fair.

This was the first of three finds for myself and Junglehair, for the day. What a very nicely maintained county park!
We stayed on the trails all the way around the park, and only bushwacked the last hundred or so feet to each cache.
This one was nicely hidden, even though Junglehair huckle-buckled me on it. :)

What leaves were left on the trees were a vibrant yellow.

I didnt actually figure out what all the pits and mounds were from, until it hit me halfway to the next cache.

Found the remains of a cool little chimney right on the trail, near the bridge.

Thanx for sharing the area!

Interesting area. We've been the park numerous times but had never seen the artifact from the mining days. There was not lots of poison ivy but the stinging nettles were thick in places (long pants advisory).

We had never been to this park before. It was a lovely walk - saw a lot of butterflys, a snake and rabbit. Missed the mining building, but found the box. Clever hiding place. Thanks.

Arrived at this one late this afternoon. Second cache for the day. Nice location. I was harassed by the chipmonks the whole time I was filling out the log. They didn't seem to be afraid of me in the least bit, and kept running up to me, within several feet, chattering away, as I was kneeling and filling out the log.

I took a matchbox car for my son, and left a where's george, and my QSL.

Cache is in good shape, thanks for the hide.

After getting skunked at the old location I just had to find this one.

There were tons of squirrels out today and I spooked a huge buck with two does on the way in. Just as I found the cache, Nomad and Boozer and family showed up. It was nice to meet some new folks out in the woods.

I took a Gbuck and left a pair of gloves.

Nice hide!

We signed the log and traded nothing. Thanks for the hide.
