This is slightly over a 5 mile round trip. You must follow these direction if you want to stay on the trails and find the cache without bush wacking.

1. Follow the Rail Bed approximately 1 mile till you cross a power line.

2. Follow the trail in the middle of the power line straight up the hill. And I do mean STRAIGHT UP THE HILL.

3. almost at the top of the hill you'll see a trail to the right.

4. Follow this trail and watch for old wooden red arrows nailed to the trees.

5. Follow these arrows and your GPS till you find Teds Lookout.

AP and I wanted to make this our destination cache today but we ended up not doing it for several reasons. Our litany of pathetic excuses follows:

1. We were stinging from getting skunked by Mr. Ekimdam's "Where the Sun Don't Shine" and didn't want to suffer that indignity again after a long hike.

2. There was a LOT more snow than we expected. We thought that we might not be able to make it straight up the killer hill that we had read so much about.

3. There was heavy rain in the forcast and we had already experience a bit of it. We didn't want to get caught in a downpour 2 miles from nowhere. The predicted rain, of course, never materialized.

4. We scouted an alternate approach that would have worked pretty well if it wasn't heavily posted.

5. Mike had sand in it.

We'll be back to try this another day!

Well, I knew if Team Rambo put it out there, it was gonna be a good one, and it sure was.

Had planned on geocaching today anyway, as it was the last fling before reporting back to work. Saw this pop up in an email and knew I'd found the direction I was headed in the morning.

The next day, I thought about getting the dual sport motorcycle out of the garage.....but decided against it. ;)

Took a different drive to the parking spot, and then had deja vu when I got there. Hey, methinks I've been here before!

I actually enjoyed the rail bed much better this time around. The first time I'd brought my bike, and lost a few fillings from the rail ties still in the path. Also, with the leaves down you get a much better view of the creek and all of the rocky outcrops. Cool stuff.

Got to the "STRAIGHT" up the hill part and thought, "He wasn't kidding about the straight up part." It was a 4-stopper going up....huff puff....break....huff puff...break. Man, I'm outta shape these days.

Anyway, took what I thought was the correct trail and headed on in across the ridgeline. Had a nice little meandering walk, but didn't notice any red arrows on the trees. No thought of bushwhacking because of the topo, and took several forks in the trail that kept getting me closer to ground zero. Finally decided to take the plunge at .25 and had an easy bushwhack about .10 of a mile before I was back on a trail that took me straight to the cache.

Found it easily and then sat back to enjoy the view. Ted picked a great spot. Who is Ted by the way? This would be an incredible view in the fall. Enjoyed the sounds of silence for a while and then headed back. TNLN

Decided to follow my tracks back the way I came and bushwhacked the same .10. When I got back to "Goat Mountain" I walked up the hill aways to see if there was another trail I'd missed, but didn't see any by the time I crested the first hill, so carefully made my way back down to the rail bed and headed back.

Stopped at "Sheepskin" to see if I could find it again with no coords, and I actually did! Traded geocoins and had a great peaceful walk back to the car.

Thanks Team Rambo for a great cache. Two thumbs way up!
