This ammo box cache is hidden on top of a great ski area in the Catskills of New York. In the summer they have lift served mountain biking and hiking. But don't let the lift served part fool you. The lift service is to a lower mountain while the cache slightly higher then the top of the upper mountain lift. Though you don't have a full mountain to climb you will have to cross over from the top of the lower mountain and climb the top section of the upper.
Plattekill is open Saturday and Sunday and certain Fridays. Check their web site for more info: http://www.plattekill.com/index2.php (Click on Mountain Biking) and the lift usually runs 10am-5pm through November. The General Manager has given me permission to place this cache and provide links to the Plattekill web site - Please tread lightly and consider spending the day mountain biking there (lots of fun too). Also please do not try to seek this cache during ski season. This is due to 3 reasons: The ski patrol will not like seeing tracks going off the trails. Your ski tracks could lead someone right to the cache. The cache is at ground level and will most likely be covered with snow. Ok here's how to find it. Directions to Ski Plattekill can be found here: http://www.plattekill.com/directions_01.html Take the triple chair to the top. You must find your way to the top of the upper mountain (trail maps are available at Ski Plattekill base lodge but your gps alone should point you in the right direction). When you get to the top you should find an old abandoned hunting cabin (looks dangerous do not enter it) close to the coordinates I have provided. The cheat provides: 1) a clue as to where to look and 2) an alternative way of getting the cache if you have having reception trouble. Good Luck Note - I don't live near this cache - If you see that the cache is in a bad spot please move it to the nearest good spot and send me a description of the area, waypoint of the new location and the waypoint you got at the old hunting cabin.
