Preferred parking is at N 40° 03.085 W 079° 23.450 with the trailhead right across the road.

The Champion trailhead and parking:

What a better way to celebrate 1 year of caching than to find a cache that hasn't been found in awhile. Had a potential new cacher with me today and he grabbed a couple easy ones in the area then we started out for this one. He really enjoyed the hike and the search and I did too!
I've walked by this one a few times and never had the coords with me, but I made sure they were loaded today!!
It was cold and raining but at least the wind wasn't blowing. Our 2 gps's had different ideas as to the location but we used his (alot newer and not as bouncy on that hillside than my etrex legend. I let my buddy look for awhile then I spied it from a distance, but let him keep looking until he made the find too! He's hooked!! Nice hike on the ICV RR and a nice hide on the hill. Thanks Danimal for my 1 year anniversery cache!

Back logging a few finds on here. We parked in Melcroft and loved the hike in to this one. This is a great bike trail. It took awhile to zero in on this one, and my wife finally made the find. I have never heard the end of it since! Thanks!

Found this one around Noon today with the help of my daughter, Moogirl. We walked in from the trailhead near Resh's Market. Beautiful day for a walk! This was our first time on this trail. Very nice little trail. We plan on returning with our bikes to ride on it another day. When we got to the area where we had to leave the trail to get to the cache, we noticed two bicycles parked there. I told my daughter that we had better wait a while in case they belonged to some fellow geocachers who were searching for the cache. As we waited, we met a couple who were walking the trail and I asked them if they could take our picture. The gentleman did, so I explained what we were doing and even though they had never heard of geocaching, he and his wife were very interested. I really believe that they will be caching soon! As soon as they went on their way another couple came walking out of the woods. They were fellow geocachers! They had found the cache. Now it was our turn! This one took us a while to zero in on! Good hiding spot! Moogirl left the Potro travel bug and took a game. I left a Crazy Light-Up Eyeball and a brown and white hackey sac. I took some American flag stickers and two black Sharpies! (I use Sharpies all the time, Yeah!!!)
We signed the logbook and rehid the cache. Then it was back on the trail to the car. What a wonderful caching trip...
...too bad it's was off to work soon after I returned home!
We could've went after a few more today!!!

Well we enjoyed the walk in among the pretty leaves. Had a bit of difficulty finding the cache as the GPSr was bouncing all over the place but after about half and hour in the general area of the cache we found it. Quite a nice hide in this pretty section of woods. Only problem is that MrsPossum48 does not like rocky trails or bushwacks. Oh well, she will learn to like the soon I hope.

Took deck of Old Maid Cards, Left yellow toy loader. SL & CITO. Thanks D@nim@l for another great hike and hunt.

This was the second of three stops today for the whole Nellsnake crew on a clear and unseasonably warm Sunday in January. We stopped by the little hamlet of Melcroft after visiting QM's new ICV Super Magnetoscrap cache nearby. The ICV trail is much better groomed in this section, making us wish that we had brought our bicycles along. We enjoyed the nice bridge over the creek and our youngest insisted on playing atop one of the slag heaps along the way. I guess he just couldn't get enough of climbing these things after we "Shagged the Slag" yesterday. After a long but pleasant walk, we bushwhacked up to the area of the cache, which was quite idyllic. Unfortunately there were literally tons of potential hiding spots, and I realized that I left the cache print-out in the car, so we would be forced to find it without the aid of any hints. We looked around for a while until I spied the container from 20 feet away after 15 minutes. Thank God! I was not relishing the idea of going all the way back to the car to get a clue. We took the Cyclops TB and left a Sacajawea gold dollar. Thanks for showing us this great section of the ICV trail and thanks for a great cache! We'll need to return in the warmer months with our bikes to explore it some more.

I thought of putting a cache somewhere along the ICV but I never followed through with it. I'm really glad that somebody else did it! I think that relatively few people know about this trail and it just doesn't get the traffic it deserves. I don't think that I have visited this trail in something like five years. It was a refreshing change of pace to go geocaching without a map. We began from Indian Head where they were celebrating "Community Days". There could be no finer example of genuine Appalachia Americana than this. They were seving burgers and dogs from a shed behind the fire house. The fire trucks were put out on display for the whole town to see and the Medevac helicopter flew in and landed so that they could see that too. The Chestnut Ridge Historical Society had an exhibit but beyond that there was little more than a few tables of assorted yard sale items being peddled. They had a very good bluegrass band that was performing for about 50 spectators which is probably about half the town not counting those that were checking out the helicopter and fire trucks. I was mesmerized by this spectacle but Kyle thought it was very boring. We prepared and ate sandwiches from the stuff that we bought at the grocery in town before setting out on the 1+ mile walk to the cache. It was a very pleasant and interesting walk through a minewater treatment area and a small private junkyard. It was so perfectly Fayette Cong that it brought a smile to my face. The city people probably won't get it because they just won't get it or because they will be too busy looking for film canisters in a shopping center parking lot. Shame. Anyway, we walked a little too far on the trail because the batteries in the GPS went dead just as we were closing in on the coordinates. We figured this out with fresh batteries in the GPS and backtracked to a point where we realized that we were going to have to bushwhack the rest of the way. The GPS had a tough time under the trees and went completely nuts just as we were getting close. I told Kyle that we were going to have to wait for the GPS to get a better signal but he had a look around and found the cache ten feet from where I was standing. The GPS was still spitting out wild readings like 200 feet one way and then 100 feet the other way but that didn't matter because we had already found the ammo can. It was something like dumb luck that we found it but we'll take it. The GPS did eventually settle to something like 20 feet so the coordinates are very good from what I could tell. We took a scrabble game and left a pack of inflation needles and a travel bug. It is fitting that The Fire Rescue Travel bug should land here even if we didn't get any pictures. Thanks D@nim@l for a most excellent cache on this beautiful summer day! Johnny and Kyle.
