In Memory of the Fredericktown Train Bridge. This is a 4 mile hike. It will take you approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.

You used to be able to park .75 miles from the cache but there was a major landslide and its now too dangerous to seek the cache from the north. Now you'll be parking appoximately 2 miles south of the cache. 95% of the trail to the cache is flat with no elevation change. When you get to the cache location you'll see why it gets a 3 terrain raiting. This trail runs along side the Little Beaver Creek. About 170 feet from the cache you'll have to cross a feeder stream. Most of the time its pretty dry and you won't get your feet wet. After a good rain you might have a hard time crossing it. Be prepared. You don't want to hike 2 miles and come up 170 feet shy of finding the cache.

This area was first introduced to me by a friend that use to repel from the bridge. I'm going off memeory and a good guess but I think the bridge was between 100 - 150 feet high before it was torn down. It's still an impressive sight to see not to mention an awesome trail.

In addition to some "lonely caches" out this way, this was our main destination cache of the day and our target cache for this milestone. We enjoyed the many caches in the western Beaver Co./eastern Ohio area that we visited on this very pleasant Saturday. Our GPSr autorouted us with any problems to the suggested parking spot, and we set out along the old railroad bed and enjoyed the beautiful fall colors, shale rock formations, and the remnants of the old train bridge along the way. The Little Beaver Creek was very scenic and its tributary was fortunately running low so that we were able to keep our feet dry for the final approach to the cache. We found the cache quickly in a likely spot. Cache was in good shape. We took nothing and dropped off a TB, who would like to head over to Alaska. Thanks for a great and memorable cache, Team Rambo!

This was the second in a series of Rambo caches that AP, DJ, and I did today. If you look beyond the neon lightposts and pollution of the city you can still find some decent caches. If you blow through microcache alley without stopping, look beyond the rainbows, skip past the unofficial stashes, and ignore those LAME-O leasure micros, you can still find some good hunts. Thank you for hiding one of them! This cache ended up being not quite as hard as we expected. I just wanted to see the bridge that was out and so we discovered that the bridge in no longer out. You can drive right across but the road is blocked by a gate a short distance beyond. This put us very close to the original trailhead but there was nowhere to park. There are "No Parking" signs everywhere in Fredericktown. Sign, sign, everywhere a sign! There were signs at the gate, signs on every street, signs at every house, and signs even in both of the two church parking lots! We ultimately decided to take our chances and parked at the gate which left us with a relatively short hike to the coordinates. It was an enjoyable hike on this unseasonably warm winter day. We saw some deer and a few pretty frozen waterfalls along the way. We veered from the trail at the interesting remains of the brige that is no more and found the cache in less than five minutes. It was very exposed. We all signed in and left the cache much better hidden than we found it. Thanks for a great cache! Johnny.
