On the square in Stephenville there are many unique things to see. I decided that some of these features had to be combined for a simple multi-stage cache. Some of these items may be a first for you; an odd model for a statue, a benchmark, and a glaring error on the Erath County Courthouse clock!!
Since some or all of these will be firsts, I decided that this should be a FTF for everyone. This idea is not new, one of my TB’s went through a cache far away from here where everyone could claim a FTF. This is how it works: Everyone gets a FTF Just log the cache for your own style of FTF. Post your acronym for your type of FTF. For instance: FTFOAM=first to find on a Monday FTFITR=first to find in the rain FTFWMBF=first to find with my best friend You get the picture, be creative, log your own FTF!! A good place to park can be found at N32 13.232 W098 12.196 The posted coordinates take you to the first oddity. The sign tells how many $ were earned in annual milk sales for Erath County. To find the 2nd stage; REPLACE the last 2 digits of your starting coordinate(N32 13.228) with the cents listed on the statue. If the ammount were listed as $ABCDEFGHI.JK REPLACE C for the last numeral in W98 12.130. (Note: When rechecking this stage I noticed that my GPSr was bouncing around a lot. If it seems that you are not in the right place--find the judge's parking spot then the steps he would use to enter the building. Continue to use the calculated coordinates for the next stage.)This second stage of this cache can be logged separately as benchmark CT0119, but has a National Geodetic Survey designation on it of A283. To find the 3rd stage coordinates SUBTRACT the number of steps up to the mark from the latitude coordinates for the second stage (N32.13.2XX). Using the NGS designation ADD the first and last numerals to the longitude coordinates of the second stage (W98 12.1XX) At the third set of coordinates look up at the clock face–there is an error on the face. If you still don’t get it look at the clues–but it is much more satisfying to find them on your own. If A is the lower value number on the clock face and B is the higher value number ADD BB to the latitude of the third stage (N32 13.1XX) and use A-1 and A+3 as the 2 numerals to ADD to the longitude. (W98 12.1XX). This should take you to the final stage for a small cache suitable for a few trade items. If it is not working out for you the coordinates are spelled out in the clues. |
