An easy bayside search for a mythical town.
Forget fictitious Franklin W. Dixon. Every bygone boy's favorite detectives, Frank and Joe Hardy, were created by Garden State literary legend Edward Stratemeyer 'way back in 1926. More than 50 Hardy Boys novels were churned out by Stratemeyer and his corps of ghostwriters, earning a legion of loyal fans spanning four generations. The location of well-known Hardy haunts has been the subject of much fan speculation over the years. ``The House on the Cliff'' is believed by many to be set around the Palisades, not too far from a curious underground area perfect for ``The Secret of the Lost Tunnel.'' Even today, many people wonder where their mythical home base of Bayport is located. Maybe you can solve the mystery. Log this cache and you'll find yourself at the foot of a landmark that points to a place long thought to be that Hardy hometown. Be careful. Traffic can be busy as you approach the cache, but you'll be able to pull completely off the road as you get close. It's an easy find from there. See how fast you can solve the case. |

Open Log: Personal use only Drove up onto the dirt area and parked very near the cache. Left my GPS in the car for this one, figuring all I had to do was look around. First, my attention was drawn to the big bag o' doots... well, actually I didn't know what it was but I thought for a moment that the geocache letter was showing through the plastic bag. Nope, it was an instruction booklet for something for which I'm not going to open that bag to figure out. Then my attention was drawn to something with many coils that I decided not to take and turn into a travel bug. And then my attention was drawn to many lovely polystyrene pieces. And finally, I saw something else, kicked it and there was the cache. Thanks.

Open Log: Personal use only rove up to within 10 feet of this one. Got out and found it quickly. Not exactly the prettiest spot for a cache. Had a hard time getting the lid off. For a minute I thought it might have been glued on by a smart arsed vandal. Swapped a WG$ for a plain George.

First one navicache.com and first in the log - guess that gives me the right to say "Huckle Buckle Beanstalk" if I want to! And, of course, I do!
