We found this while camping at Laurel Hill State Park. This is one of our favorite hikes in the park. We had jmarino & crccman along with us and our muggle sister-in-law who now knows what caching is all about. The trail back to the cache is even better now since they've placed bridges at all of the water crossings. We took nothing and left a carabineer clip and waterproof camping matches & holder. TFTC!!

Laurel Hill State Park is very familiar to me as I spent most of my summers camping here between the ages of 8 and 14, and 4 years of boy scouts at camp Conestoga. Since I was driving by on County Line Road, I decided to park on Jones Mill Road and hike down the ridge trail, at first I thought this to be a mistake, but then it was the right choice, then maybe a mistake...It doesn't matter which way you come in (pump house, tram road, ridge) they are all about the same. The only difference is the view. If you get a map there is a nice round trip possible using all three and Jones Mill Road also. The ridge trail offers some
great huckleberry picking July thru mid August, just watch for mother nature! she's lives in the woods. Love the area and any reason to be there( we also snowmobile on these trails, snow permitting) Thanks Quest Master!

6:25PM - Well, since our attempt to grab a YJTB was unsuccessful yesterday at Iron Center, I looked at QM's profile and found that another YJTB was in this cache, and this cache's DCNR permit was soon to expire, so here we are again, the whole K-SQUARED clan out on a QM cache. Thank goodness today there were no rattlesnakes, just a garter snake and many baby toads (after all we weren't in the Cong today). We took Rigde Trail and then a side trail to the Jones Mill Run Dam. We spent a while at the dam/waterfall enjoying the view, taking pictures and throwing, and skimming, rocks on the pond. Soon, we ventured into the forest to tackle the cache. Our GPSr was quite jumpy, first it would point that way, then over there, etc. So, I deciphered the hint. That didn't help much, I already knew where I was looking, there were just a lot of options... But, soon, we found it. The kids did not take anything, "there's nothing good in it, dad!" I took the YJTB, SL and left our K-SQUARED wooden geonickel. TFTC as always Johnny! We drove on up Jones Mill Rd a bit and explored and plan to come back and do the other caches here. Another cacher was here today before us, but has not logged online yet. Also, I removed a bunch of candy from the ammo box...

Found this one along with my nephew (skyfox5416) at 2:25PM.
This was skyfox5416's first cache hunt! I let him decide which trail to use to get us to the cache and I must say, he did a good job! He's very familiar with this park because he, my sister, and brother-in-law camp here often. After the walk in to the area near the cache, it took us a little while to zero in on it because of the bouncy GPS reception we were experiencing. I spotted a likely hiding spot but stepped back and allowed him to find it on his own. He finally spotted it and we opened it up to take a look inside. We made our trades and signed the logbook.
I took a little cow and a little green alien.
I left a Hootie and the Blowfish rain poncho and a green and white hackey sac. Cache is pretty empty, so if you're going after this one, take some goodies!!!
We now have another geocacher among our ranks! We had a great time going after this one and I think it was a good choice as his first hunt. We were going to go after another one but the rain started coming down just as we got back to the car. I'm sure this won't be our last caching trip together, I think he's hooked!

2nd of several today over in the Laurel Highlands for the whole Nellsnake crew. Spring has really not yet arrived in the Highlands, and there was still a fair bit of snow at the higher elevations. After finding the nearby Rock Garden cache, we drove over and parked at the Pump House Trail parking area. We headed toward the cache on this trail, and when we reached an intersection, we decided to go down to check out the Tram Road Trail. After pausing at the bridge, we headed toward the cache on this trail, negotiating one minor water hazard before reach a more significant one. Rather than getting wet prematurely, we decided to retreat and approach the final location from the Pump House Trail. We enjoyed the Jones Mill Run Dam and waterfall before making the final approach toward the cache, which was only completed by Nellsnake #1. As the rest of the team loitered in and around Jones Mill Run, I hiked up to the cache, which was found in good shape after a few minute search in the area. We left the "Studipity" TB and took the Rubber Band Ball TB. I had a slightly more difficult time crossing back over the Run to rejoin the rest of the family but successfully avoided getting wet. Thanks for a very enjoyable and scenic hike and cache, QM!

I took half a day off of work to meet with the Laurel Hill State Park manager to get permission to place a cache along the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. (Permission was granted. Stay tuned.) While I was in the area I decided to try for a local cache.

It snowed yesterday so there was about 9 inches of snow on the ground when I set out from the parking area. Even though I knew there was a water hazard, I declined to take the longer route that would avoid the hazard altogether. Where's the fun in avoiding a Questmaster water hazard? The transit was an exhilarating experience what with the sub-freezing temperatures.

Once across I went up the hill where the GPS signal was guiding. I followed where the GPS signal was pointing and when the distance read 9 feet I looked and saw it almost immediately. A coincidence of the angle. I still had to kick things around quite a bit to remove the cache from its frozen hiding place.

Then it was back across the creek and back to the car. There was still plenty of the afternoon left so I scouted out an alternate route to where I will be placing my cache tomorrow. The road was completely snow covered so I suppose I'll have to take the primary route: 8 miles round trip through at 9 inches of snow.

I was with kfinders and ekimdam for a mid-PA geocaching day. Great area! Loved the falls! We saw some trout in the water above the damn. Cache is in good condition. We met a few cachers on the way in. They were on the way out. Funny this cache hasn't seen action since last november but two people found it today! TNLN SL
