This cache is in the Bear Run Nature Reserve. This 4,000 acre reserve is adjacent to Ohiopyle State Park and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. The property is owned and managed by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy which has been instrumental in the preservation of many natural areas in western Pennsylvania including Moraine, Ohiopyle, and Laurel Ridge State Parks. This beautiful area has about 20 miles of hiking trails which are lesser known and see less traffic than those at Ohiopyle.

The parking area for the Bear Run Nature Reserve is located on the east side of route 381 about 3.1 miles south of Mill Run or 3.5 miles north of Ohiopyle. Trail maps are usually available at the trailhead (39° 54.355, -79° 27.615). The Wagon Trail (orange blazes) is the most direct route to the cache but the Arbutus Trail (white blazes) is a much more scenic way to go. The first stage is a regular-sized cache that stores a micro (film canister) with coordinates to the final cache. Look for it in the dark forest. It’s spooooooooky! The cache will be found in a nice spot less than one-half mile away. Please stay on designated trails as much as possible. Enjoy!

Was out caching with my brother egroeg today and this wqas first on the list. I wanted to rescue the TB and see how much if any that the place has changed. Still very cool in the woods up here!! We saw some crazy stream erosion on our way back out, like a big boulder had fallen in the stream and changed its course recently. Also there were some strange diggings going on!!?? The cache was well stashed and our GPSr's were sending us in different directions at first, but the find was made and we signed in just as the sun started to peek through the clouds.
Very peaceful and beautiful back up in there. We got there without a map only because there weren't any at the lot, but getting one is a very good idea, as there are lots of trails up in there, and although walking around all day would be cool.......Thanks QM for giving us a reason to be here.

Kordite said that he remembered the location of this cache. Noting the last adventure in searching at Dead Man's Hollow according to remembered locations, I was doubtful. "Trust me" he said. Well, I guess I'm just a fool in love but this time I found it. :-) Took golf ball, left nothing, SL. TFTC!

Kyrie and I were at Bear Run for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's member day. We took a nice walk up the Arbutus Trail to Bell Springs. I had found it previously and stood back to let Kyrie have a chance. Even without the coordinates she was able to find it with little trouble.

A cache by any other name is still a cache. Unfortunately contents are a little different. I've mistakenly placed a travel bug in this cache which should be in the OTHER caching system. Sorry about that. If a future finder, or the owner, could physically remove the "Allure 2" travel bug and move it along to another 'appropriate' cache, it would be appreciated. The bug has been electronically placed in the Circle Island cache: GCHBN2 - at www.geocaching.com.
Thanks in advance for your help.

This was our first of two in The Bear Run preserve. This proved to be an easy scenic hike in a very nice area. Took some pictures and made a quick cache find. This was fun start to the day. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache!

Our first of 3, on the first day on our annual OSP Caching trip from Eastern PA (You know - Microville Lebanon County). A nice hike in the early morning and a 'spooky indeed' first part find. A lot of picture taking and an easy find at GZ. I'm not a trader - just a cacher, so I'll be spreading a lot of 'stuff' from an archived cache of mine. Left an 'ultra bright' flash light w/battery and a travel bug (Oops) - took nothing. Thanks for the hike, QM!

Three tenths of a mile to the first stage. No problem. Four tenths of a mile to the final. No problem. Two hours and three and a half miles later, I finally made it back to the parking lot. But it was worth it. The journey is often the worthier part. Left a pig and a geonickle, took nothing. Thanks!

As an added note, grabbing a trail map before you start is a good idea.

I had a great time. There are so many trails, my buddies let me cache while they did other trails. We met up and hiked a total of 4+ miles after we did the beautiful tour of Fallingwater. I found and took a Jeep TB that isn't listed. I suspect it is the one listed in Victoria Flats which I didn't find. Left ring with charms and hoods. SL.

We found the cache after having some problems getting started. The Fern Cliff part got us started the wrong way, but we followed the gps and quickly got on track. Took a Helper Hippo travel bug, and some change. We left a globe pencil sharpener, and a pin. Great day for this hunt! Love the cache placement. The kids actually found this one!

I had to drive my wife (MaMaMoo) into Ohiopyle on business so I figured we could stop by here and find this one. I've driven by here a thousand times and never stopped. I never realized how many trails were back in there! We picked up a trail map on the way in and I suggest doing the same if you go after this one! It sure came in handy.
We found the first stage fairly easily around 5:30 PM. Yes, that area is kinda spooky! Neat though. We took the Etch-A-Sketch pen and left a Pocket Pal 2007 calendar/planner at the first stage.
I think we then followed all the right trails to the second stage, thanks to the map and some helpful suggestions from my caching buddy, JimBat! What a great hike! Some really nice scenery back in there with the laurels, the creek, the waterfalls, the spring and everything. I'm sure there is a lot more to see along the other trails.

Found the second stage at 6:10 PM with no trouble even though it was well hidden. We took a light-up piggy keychain and left a Winchester money clip/penknife.

We enjoyed this area and would like to come back and check it out some more, maybe even camp there. Thanks, once again, Quest Master, for taking us to a place that we probably wouldn't have gone otherwise!

(backlogging an old no-find)

My sister-in-law, her one-year old, and I were hoping to score this cache after failing at Victoria's Secrets nearby the day before. But it wasn't meant to be. We had little trouble finding part one -- the easiest-to-find film can I've ever seen . Very neat area. The rhododendron forest was stunning. I also liked the stone stairway. Our problems came when we came to what we thought was a rustic plank bridge over a small waterfall. We got so excited about crossing it, we didn't realize until we were across that this wasn't the trail. We kicked ourselves when we noticed the real bridge 100 yards downstream. On top of that, crossing the broken plank with the tot on my back was pretty scary, and I refused to go back that way. So, after looking for an easier way back across, we just waded across in our boots. We were late for dinner with relatives by this point, so we called the hunt off.

We plan to finish this next year. And I'd love to explore the rest of the area, maybe camp there. Thanks for yet another great hunt, QM. A tour of QM caches would make an incredible caching vacation, if you allow a lot of time.

Important note: there is only one card left in part one.

I had ambitious plans for the day. Central to this, was the Venture Outdoors Member Day at Ohiopyle. And since I was going to be in the area, and had all day, I also thought about logging Bear Run, the two on the ICV Trail and Chinatown. Well, that was an overly ambitious plan and what with the snow, I decided to trop riding my bike on the ICV Trail.

But I wasn't going to just go to Bear Run for this cache. Oh, no. I was going to hike a 9 mile loop around the circumference of the reserve. But last night I was out until 1am and to do the whole trail before the event at noon I was up after only 4 hours of sleep to pack and get going. I was on the trail before 8am.

Only a few inches of snow on the ground and branches and 25 degrees. Aside from the local wildlife, mine were the only tracks on the trail. It was quiet, without even wind blowing through the trees. The snow came down lightly but continuously.

Questmaster must have hiked all of Bear Run because his multi took me through all the best that there was to see. The "spooky" first stage. Close rhododendron or mountain laurel (I have trouble telling the difference between the two). A little bit of a side track on Bear Run itself.

And, having done a number of QM caches, they weren't that difficult to find. Questmaster caches are for the getting there, not the destination.

After finding the cache, I continued up Ridge Trail, Tulip Tree Trail, back down Laurel Run Trail and towards the Peninsula Trail above the Youghiogheny River. Except that I had run out of time. So, instead of looking around the peninsula, I hauled myself up the hill over the Saddle Trail and back to the parking lot.

I wanted to come back and finish the Peninsula Loop but I was sore and tired and the light was fading after the event so I abandoned the attempt for this trip. I also chucked going for Chinatown. That's one I want to do with full daylight.

THIS is what I do geocaching for!

#4 of 4 caches today in the Ohiopyle area for the whole Nellsnake team on this warm and hazy holiday weekend. We took a circuitous route to get to the 1st stage: the Hill trail to the Aspen trail to the Wagon Trail. The periodicity of the pine forest there was quite intriguing. Due to the density of the cover, we were going in circles for a while with only 2-3 satellites locked in. So, we had to resort to the clue for stage 1, which we were then able to find fairly quickly. Stage 2 also took a bit of wandering and backtracks to finally get to due to spotty reception. We ended up bushwhacking across a field with very tall weeds and grasses, along with many relentless bugs. During this time the reception got better and we were able to hone in on the final cache location. TNLN. Signed logbook at 6 p.m. We enjoyed the many different terrains encountered on the various trails. A nice end to a very enjoyable day in the Ohiopyle area. Thanks again, Quest Master!

Well I found this cache way back in July of 2003 but I did the hike again this year as a friend of college was visiting and she wanted to see the reserve. (no cache founding on the agenda but hit a lot of the same trails. SO no need to have her lay down in the pine trees to read the tag for stage one like I did with Kel-Star on my first trip. I also didn't try and have her cross the swale via a fallen tree (not the route nor recomended, but Kel spent way too much time in a gym not to have her do a natural beam). Thanks for the FUN
