Another entertaining drive-by virtual in the Garden State!

This virtual marks one of the more fascinating drive-by attractions off the beaten path in Southern New Jersey. Site of one of the early 20th Century's more tragic accidents, the location is now home to an assortment of unique and unusual relics of a bygone age. I want you to see it.

Fans of this particular pastime will be astonished. Even the casual observer will find it truly entertaining. Not too far off the beaten path, it's decades away. Best of all, there are several other exciting caches located nearby. You can make a day of it.

To log this virtual cache, look for a marker commemorating the disaster that occurred here and e-mail me (jardinier@juno.com) the particulars, including the name and the date. While you're onsite, please observe common safety measures and respect public and private property. And don't get run over.

This was an interesting, historic area. I arrived here with my son after dark in the rain, so we didn't get a whole lot of time to explore. Plus, there was someone living in the caboose, so we decided not to take a closer look. I'll have to return some day during daylight to explore some more.

Thought I'd get out before the snow came. Interesting location. I'll have to find out more about it.

While I have logged a few virtual caches and have come to expect that virtuals provide some interesting but forgotten historical tidbit, it was great to find one that provided such unique and interesting scenery as well.
I spent a half hour walking from car to car and appreciating the construction and the ongoing fight against time and the elements, at the same time lamenting that they are slowly losing the battle. I was somewhat relieved to hear that some of the rail cars are eventually restored, sometimes at the expense of their surrounding surrogates.

I really enjoyed this cache and would have liked to walk through some of the silent cars, but railway staff were absent and I wasn't going to presume a trespass would be acceptable.

I'm hoping to find additional information online about the listed incident, though a quick search last night was unsuccessful.

Thank you for putting this site on the map again, Timely!

I've never seen a caboose like that one before! Nice site. I drove down from Atsion and through the town of Hammonton and saw all the nice houses.

This came out of nowhere! I was cruising down whatever road that is with someone tailgating. I knew I was getting close so I pulled over. As the tailgater went by, I peeked around the corner. I was surprised at what I saw.

Neat place.

Thanks for the hunt.
