The cache is in the vicinity of "Creek Falls", a waterfall and swimming hole located in an area the locals call "Crick Hills". The easiest way to get to Creek Falls and the cache is to follow an unmarked gravel road along Jacobs Creek from the Chaintown bridge which is about 4 miles west of Scottdale, Pennsylvania. I am unable to provide driving directions as it the norm for me to get lost each and every time I go there. Currently, ordinary passenger cars can drive for about 0.7 miles on the aforementioned gravel road to a gate for a rifle range. Park at the gate and hoof it from there. The road beyond this point is the domain of off-road vehicles and pedestrians with very muddy feet. Have Fun!

WARNING: Expect to get a little wet. It will be necessary to cross the creek to get to the cache. There is a ford about halfway down the jeep trail where the water will normally be less than a foot deep. Do not attempt to cross if the water is high. It might be possible to avoid the water and mud by walking the railroad and crossing on the trestles but this is trespassing and could be very dangerous. Don’t do it!

We had a lot of fun with this one. Following all the muddy muddy, puddle filled holes on the quad trails! It would have been great fun to be on a quad! We saw lots of tad poles and frogs along the way! When we forded the creek it was much warmer than the stream on the way to Iron Furnace just yesterday. It was sooo refreshing. You just said aaahhhh!!

We got to the falls which, which were very nice by the way, much nicer than we expected! There were people diving off the cliffs. Crazy kids!! We don't understand why people have to paint all over the rocks!

We found the cache...and was glad it was off of the main road, otherwise we might not have logged our find. Just too many muggles today.

On the way out it started thundering....then raining....CLAP....lightening right near us....beat feet to the car ASAP!! Another great adventure!!! :) We're happy cachers this weekend! Thanks Quest Master for all the fun!

I am pleased to report that this cache is alive and well! I was reminded yesterday that there are still a few adventurous people left playing this game that can think outside the frog and enjoy this kind of cache hunt. I feel like I owe it to them to keep these old school caches going even if they won't be visited very often. Besides, it's always a fun trek to the cache and today's adventure didn't disappoint. Every time I do this hike, it seems like the road gets rougher and the sippy holes get deeper. It wasn't always easy to get around the huge puddles because I did the entire hike in sandals since I didn't want to be bothered with changing shoes at the ford. The water was deeper than I expected so I I converted my convertible pants to shorts to make the crossing. I was almost blinded by the glare of the sun glinting off my pasty white thighs but that didn't last for long because they turned crimson blue shortly after I entered the water that turned out to be way colder than I anticipated. I will swear that I should have been able to skate across for as cold as it was! The falls were impressive with the water running high and there were wildflowers everywhere. Sadly, there was also a lot of trash and graffiti left behind by inconsiderate persons. This place could sure use a CITO. I brought along a replacement cache but as luck would have it I did not need it. I found the cache safe and sound in its little tomb. It was dry and in good shape in spite of there being a small rust hole in the bottom of the container. I took out a few junk items and threw in some wayward travel bugs that couldn't possibly have come from one of froggy's caches since there's no possible way that I could have gotten coordinates on account of being banned. Cache on! Johnny.

Years ago,we cut school and spent the day hanging with some friends at Creek Falls, its a little scary to think it was probably 35 years ago. That was the first and only time I was there before today, yet the image of the falls was exactly as I remembered. I've been doing some wandering in the valley of Jacobs Creek and this cache had become the sentimental favorite. Parking at the State Gamelands near TriTree cache, I started the hunt. Had a chance to talk to the guy there with dozens of cars in his front yard along Tower Road. He pretty much pointed me in the right direction and warned that he wouldnt go down there in the summer without protection. I dont think he was refering to something carried in his wallet with a foil wrapper. I was betting I wouldn't run into any lunatics swimming today and most of the riff-raff (or sane people)hike in from Chaintown. I was on a stealth mission over the hill. Gas and logging roads seemed to offer a pretty direct approach. The descent into the canyon is intense, maybe in the summer you could get there in tennies, but today I was dealing with sucking mud holes, ice, loose rock and deadfalls. The climb out was worse! Could hear the falls long before I could see them. Very impressive. Had that almost sickening deja vu feeling that as a kid I had jumped/dived off all those rocks. Its a wonder I survived. Searched among the foundation rocks but no Valentines. Was pressed for time so I wasnt able to look as thoroughly as I would like before declaring this one muggled. What a great area! probably would make the top the twenty natural wonders in WPA. If theres another hint, please send it, I have no pride, thanks QM!

Been wanting to come here evre since we started caching, and we figured this being our last Friday before school starts, today was the day. I was feeling brave driving the Tracked through mud hole after mud hole, until I saw one about 60 yards long! The girls were getting nervous, so we decided to hike it. I think we took the wrong path, because we ended up walking the last 1/4 mile along the rail road tracks, and ended up on the wrong side of the creek. We met some guys swimming, I guess jumping is what they were really doing, and they told us some history of the falls. They then did a few tricks for us off of the rock ledge, splashing into the creek below. Courtney thought that was cool. After leaving them, we headed down stream to find a better place to cross. With all the rain, the creek was angry today. We enjoyed the crossing with the heat today, and then headed back up to the cache. What a great area. It's a shame new cachers from that other site will probably never have a chance to see it. Well at least it's still listed here! Like they say, you never know what you have till it's gone! Any way, the guys at the falls told us about the trail that heads back out from the side the cache is on, so we decided to give it a try. The creek crossing up there was way better then the way we went. I don't know how we missed it! Oh, by the way, Courtney discovered fresh water clam shells. She collected them all day! Thanks for another quality hide. This is what it's all about!

JimBat found it along with Mooman56. I havent been down in here for about 20 years. We decided to do this one first this morning to avoid all the Fayette Congsters. This place is a 4 wheelers paradise with mud holes everywhere. The falls area has always been my favorite spot except for the graffiti and trash everywhere. I never knew that old mill foundation was even there. Always learning something new navicaching. Left gold dollar and golf ball and took power ranger lookalike. TFTC

Found this one along with JimBat around 8:00 AM. My 60th find!

We wanted to get in and get out before the partying Congsters showed up. There were no early-rising Congsters and no left-over, hung-over Congsters from the night before around either! It was quite peaceful down this way this morning. Too bad the people that come down here make such a mess and then don't clean it up before they leave. It's probably been 20 years since I've been down this way. It sure looks different. There are a lot more mudholes to drive through!

We found the cache well hidden, but I'm still surprised that it doesn't get muggled being hidden in this location.
I took nothing and left an orange & black frog and a blue stencil/ruler. We signed the log and rehid the cache.

I'm so glad we made it in and back out without running into the "Creek Hills Slayer", hehehe, who apparently takes time out from his "slaying" to spray paint his name on railroad trestles! Whew!

The geocaching doesn't get any better than this. With Pghlooking, his better half Radioactive Coconut, and YemonYime, we made this classic cache our 4th and last of the day. The road in was a muddy mess but we successfully navigated around the mud holes until we needed to cross the stream. Yime and I ventured across wearing hiking boots, arriving on the otherside with dry feet. Pghlooking and RC decide to wear sandals. There were approximately 8 people following close behind us on their way to Creek Falls also. Saw some amazing mud holes on the other side of the creek and some of the 4 wheel vehicles going through them. Upon arriving at the falls we found approximately 30+ people swimming, sunning themselves and jumping into the water from the rocks. Pghlooking decided to make friends with the locals giving the rest of us the chance to quietly sneak away to find the cache. TN, left a small item, SL. Pghlooking joined us a short time later as we watched some of the people on quads in the mud holes and the others playing in the water, one nut even did a back flip into the water from the ledge of one of the rocks. The falls were spectacular except for all the trash and grafitti. It's a shame people can't clean up after they're done with their fun. This was a great day for doing this cache, I really enjoyed the company and the long hike along the creek. This to me is what geocaching is all about. Thanks QM for a great cache hunt!

5:09 PM. We (whole family) went out this gorgeous afternoon to do a QM cache with my brother (from MA, yes, he loves the Red Sox AND the Patriots!) I figured with the dry weather we have been having of late that Jacobs Creek would be low and the trails would be dry. I was wrong, the trails were soaked and MUDDY! We managed to avoid most of the mud pits. KJ had his boot suctioned off by one mud puddle. I though he was going all the way under! We got to the cache. It's in fine shape, nice and dry. T: Boy Scout flashlight and the TB. L: glowstick and a dinosaur. Then we went over to the falls and explored. It was beautiful, didn't think to bring my swim suit. TFTC Johnny, see you on Saturday!

My dad (Dagger41) has gotten involved in geocaching (my fault, apparently) and chose Creek Falls and Iron Alliance for a father/son expedition. So, we packed up for an early start of it.

At the ford (with at least four burned out vehicles nearby) we traded our boots for sandals and then on the other side, put the books back on only to discover we were on an island. This necessitated another change and crossing after which I decided to stay with the sandals for the rest of the trip.

A Redneck Haiku:
Burned out cars in the woods.
Tire tracks outnumber deer tracks.
Fayette Cong, indeed!

At the cache site there is really no way to tell that this was once a mill. Sure, the falls would be a grate place for one but there is no sign of the mill itself. That is, until we started moving back upstream and found ourselves in the mill race, the trench that would bring the water down to the mill wheel.

I could imagine that with heavy rains and the steep hills that Jones Creek would be nigh impassible. That would be an impressive sight.

I was sick and tired of this cache showing up at the top of the list when I searched for caches with my zipcode. And what made it that way was the lack of a red check mark beside it.

Now you all know that QM has a habit of placing caches that are not your easy jump out of the car and go hiking in your sneakers. He usually has some kind of water hazard involved (and I thought I would only encounter those on the golf course!) that one must overcome. Then once you get to the coordinates you have to do a little thinking to find the cache. In my opinion if I find a QM cache it is something to shout about! HOORAY FOR ME!

I have to report that I did kinda outsmart QM thanks to the weather. I read many of the logs that told horror stories about mud and a ford across the creek that could be dangerous. Well I figured last nite before I went to bed that all those things would be much less severe with the hot weather we have been experiencing this summer. I was right. Not much mud, ford was rather easy and it only took me about 2 minutes of find the cache.

I want to thank QM for placing this cache here. This is the first time in 40 years that I have been back to "Crick" Falls. Hiked in the summer between my Jr and Sr years in high school for an afternoon of imbibing and swimming. This was really a trip back memory lane.

Left a keyring and took a keychain from the 297 weblos patrol to place in another cache real soon. Also signed the log.

While I was going through the "stuff" in the cache I heard a couple bikes coming in my general direction. I quickly put the stuff back and signed the log, then rehid the cache and started to hike back out. I got about 10 feet from the cache and a young fella came over the hill fishing pole in hand. I absolutely startled him cause he never thought he would find an "'ol' fart" just hiking through those woods.

Thanks again QM for this the third of your caches I have found you are the best!

This was my fifth and final stop of the day on a hot and muggy day in June. I was looking forward to this cache and the nearby Iron Alliance cache today because the water hazards would serve as bonus refreshments along the way. This whole area was teeming with Congsters tooling around the Jeep trails in their cars and ATVs. This made for a very muddy hike today--much muddier than it was last November when I DNF'd this cache in the dark and ran out of battery power in my flashlight. This time, I made sure I had plenty of daylight left before embarking on this cache hunt. I enjoyed watching the locals ford the various puddles and mini-ponds along the route. It also seems that many more motor vehicles have met their ultimate demise along the way than I remember from my last visit (or maybe it just seems that way because I could actually see better this time). I used the under-belly of an overturned car in the creek as a stepping stone to help me cross the water hazard (see photo). The creek was not running as high as it was last time I was here. After slogging through more mud and muck, I eventually made it to ground zero. I tried to be very stealthy because there were about 20-30 local youths partying it up on the rocks by the falls and swimming there less than 50 yards away. There were even some bathers floating down the creek on inner tubes. It's a bit of a shame how the ATVs and 4WD cars are really chewing up the trails in this very nice area. I was able to find the cache very quickly this time and signed in the logbook at about 3:55 p.m. I then returned to the car by the same route--about 60-70 minutes total round trip time. Well, I was finally able to get this monkey off my back...redemption is mine! Thanks for the adventure, Johnny!

The Falls were very cool! We drove to within 1/2 a mile from the cache. We crossed the creek using the train bridge (but don't tell anyone). Again we wished we had taken Russells Jeep instead of my full size '03 Dodge 4x4 Truck. We could of drove to the falls with his Jeep.

This was an ill-advised adventure! I'm just thankful to have made it out of there unscathed. After finding the Stone Bridge Trail cache, we arrived at the parking location for this cache at 5:00 p.m. or so. I underestimated the distance, terrain, water level of Jacobs Creek, and the imminence of impending darkness. My older son and I initially set off for this cache while Nellsnake Mom and younger son waited in the car. The puddles were quite deep and the trail muddy and treacherous from the recent rains. After ~0.2 miles, I decided to send my son back to the car, as this was clearly going to be too much for him. I wore heavy boots anticipating a water hazard of up to 12 inches deep, but I went in well over my knees at one point on the way back--the water was flowing pretty briskly. When I got to Creek Falls, it was completely dark. I had broken out my high-powered flashlight to help guide the way a bit earlier, but I then found that I had failed to pack my back-up regular flashlight. When I discovered this, I decided to only look around the area for about 5 minutes or so for fear of losing all my flashlight battery power on the way back. I decrypted the clue but still didn't find the cache in the allotted time. I'm sure it's still there, but I just couldn't give it my usual thorough search and it was DARK. On the way back I took a wrong turn and discovered my error after heading up a wrong tributary of the creek for 0.1 - 0.2 miles. It was at this time that my flashlight battery started dying, and I really needed to ration out its remaining power. I was beyond caring about getting wet and muddy at that point--survival was at stake! Fortunately the GPSr had good batteries and kept a good signal throughout. Only the backlight and mapping features on my GPSr, a very weak flashlight, the fact that I didn't sustain an injury, and utter determination got me out of those woods this evening. I made it back to the car exhausted and a bit shaken up at 6:35 p.m. No more night caching for me for the forseeable future. Word to those wiser than myself: do NOT attempt this cache when the water is running any higher than normal or in the dark!

Left some old European coins and another pocket knife, got a soft car for a cache in VA later this month. The swimmers were none the wiser of our true mission.
