This was the first geocache in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It's in a very interesting and scenic area near Connellsville, Pennsylvania. The suggested route to the cache passes by the site of the Casparis quarry mine and an excellent view of the Youghiogheny River valley through Chestnut Ridge.

Directions: Turn from Route 119 at McDonalds and follow Pittsburgh Street south through Connellsville until it ends at a T. Turn left and follow a rough gravel road up and out of town for 1.5 miles to a fork in the road. Take the right fork, cross through a stream, and follow this road and your GPS to the cache.

WARNING: The condition of the "road" to the cache from Connellsville is iffy and it generally gets worse as you go. During winter months it will almost certainly be impassible. Park and walk if your vehicle cannot handle it. It is a pleasant walk to the cache from the stream crossing if you can make it that far. Do not approach or enter the mines under any circumstances! Go slow, be careful, and have fun!

Note: This cache is located on Pennsylvania State Gamelands. During the peak deer season (November 15 - December 15, except Sundays), you must "wear a minimum of 250 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange-colored material on the head, chest and back combined or, in lieu thereof, a hat of the same colored material. The material shall be worn so it is visible in a 360° arc".

1 of 9 on my 2nd annual Quest Master Cache Marathon. The road looked too rocky for my trusty Honda Accord, so I decided to walk it from 1.5 miles out. What a hike! Even though the mines were blasted shut, the view of the Yough was worth it. Just wished I would have brought my camera. Someone spray painted "Bo Jangles" near the mines. My wife, a native Pittsburgher, first told me about Bo Jangles. I only half believed her until now. This must be some SW PA thing.

This cache wasn't found for 9 months then twice in as many days, hehe!! I've been to this place in the 70's countless times as well as the mines. I've driven a car way back in the mines. For awhile we would go to this look out every saturday and drink large quantities of beer. The roadwas alot better then. But even still the beauty and peacefulness of this place still amaze me. Thanks Johnny for bringing me back and getting a flood of memories! It's a shame the trash that people leave in places like this. Even down at the natural caves they are trashing it up. Great cache, the view is just spectacular.

Some days one cache is quite enough.Although my GPSr is showing 1.67 miles to Casparis, the gravel road has deteriorated to a boulder rutted obstacle course. Weighing the pros and cons of a rock kicking out my oil pan versus my brain pan kicking out an aneurysm, I decide to park the vehicle and take my chances. About a half mile up the hill, I hear the sound of multiple ATV's closing fast. While I stand there waiting quietly to be eviscerated by bored 16 year olds, the head renegade politely asks if I want a ride up to the caves. I nod and give him a thumbs up and try not to let him smell my fear. The ride up is a blast! I wonder if I shouldn't be wearing a helmet, but if we launch off the side of the mountain, a helmet won't matter. They stop at the caves and give me directions on up to the overlook. As it turns out the kid who gave me a lift had proposed to his child bride up there. The view is nothing short of spectacular! You can see clear up to the wind farm. I find the cache without any trouble(thank-you QM)and start back to the car. The ATV's are gone, the woods are quiet again and I'm left with only my own demons.

Decide to stop by on my way home. Glad that I did. First time to Casparis. I have been looking to do this for a couple weeks and today was the day. Nice area for a drive, hike, and wow what a view. Thanks for another great cache QM. I look forward to doing more of them.

Updating my account.
The sixth cache in our western PA caching trip. Well, this was a great combination of a nice off-road drive and a pleasant hike to a spectacular view. I was glad to have the 4X4 pickup for this trip, it came in really handy at times! These quarries weren’t nearly accessible as the ones at the Sand Quarry cache, but were more like they would have been treated back home. Vertumnis remarked that in the Game Lands in our home area they would not have left you anywhere near quarries like this, especially not like those at the Sand Quarry cache. But, I digress. The cache was quickly located and we stayed for a while to enjoy the view and take some pictures. Thanks for another great cache, I took nothing, left nothing and signed the log.

Found this cache at a little after 2 p.m. today, April 9th, 2006. This cache is the closest one to my house, only about 2.6 miles away (as the crow flys)! This makes number 4 find for me.

I've been up here a million times and had a pretty good idea where the cache was! Hiked to the cache from the VERY BOTTOM of the dirt road, yeah, clear down by the log home! Felt like walking today. Bushwacked through the woods along the rock ridges for a while, then headed up to hit the road to the cache.

I'm glad I went through the woods at first, because the creek was beautiful along the way.

Made my way across the creek and then out to the mines that they've closed, How sad. This was the first time I've been up there since they closed them. Sure looks different! Saw a few people on ATVs. Made my way to the lookout point near the cache. There were a few more guys on ATVs taking a break and taking in the view. One of the best views in Fayette County, in my opinion! You could see the windmills on the other mountain and they were all spinning pretty good! Those must be the ones near Cranberry Lake. After the ATVers left I started searching. The cache was well hidden but it didn't take very long to find it. It was in good shape and the contents were dry. I took an angel keychain for my daughter (Moogirl) and left a mini Ray-O-Vac flashlight, a yellow and white hackey sac with a goofy face on it and also left a blue rubber salamander. Read some of the other cacher's entries in the log and then signed it myself. (I gotta get some pesonalized stickers, "business" cards or a stamp or something!) This was my first cache that was hidden by Quest Master (whom I've read so much about) and I'm looking forward to finding more of his caches! TFTC Quest Master!

This was our fourth of four Quest Master Caches for the day. K-finders, Ekimdam, non-cacher Dan, and myself were out here for our annual stomp through Quest Master territory. Totally cool view, totally cool mines! Took the trail blazer all the way to the mine with ease. Signed the log, took and left nothing. Thanks for another great cache Quest Master! We'll be back next year for some more.

#200 for the Nellsnake Team: The whole Nellsnake team packed up our supplies and headed off for this notorious QM cache in the Cong on this beautiful summer-like day in April. We made our way slowly up the rocky road, and the Outback brought us beyond the little creek without any problems. We parked about 0.7 miles from the cache and had a generally pleasant hike along the road from there. The locals were out in force today on ATVs and dirt bikes, and on a few occasions we needed to dodge them as they blistered by. We stopped off at the Casparis mine area on the way for a bit of exploring...and cooling off! The cool damp caves provided a nice respite from the outside 80+ degree heat--it was like stepping into a moist refrigerator. The youngest member of the Nellsnake team collected a few shotgun and bullet shells in the area as souvenirs. We then made our way up to the lookout, pausing at a few of the muddy puddles to observe the many frogs hopping about. At the lookout site, we marveled at the nearby auto cemetery and enjoyed watching a freight train wind its way through the Yough valley below. The boys were transfixed by the nearby large puddle containing at least 7 frogs, which were surprisingly tame and uninhibited, enjoying their spring courtship rituals and procreating activities. Nellsnake Dad went up to log the cache during this time, which was found very quickly in the second place he looked. We then had a very pleasant picnic lunch in the area before heading back. Thanks for a very interesting, educational, enjoyable and truly memorable experience, Quest Master! We won't wait as long before venturing back to this area again for some more adventures.

Did this one with my sister, she recalled comming to the quarry when her husband were dating. Yep perfect date for dating when you live in the cong. BTW I notice QM and the now infamous Miss Jenn followed us up to quarry.

OK, so we had the right kind of vehicle. Any others need to heed all the WARNINGS.
Even if you don't find the Cache you will enjoy the view. Did not need the cell phone or the appropriately named book so left Ernie and some other trinkets. Thanks
Oh yea a FTF before FTF was
