This is a virtual mystery. You will have no problem solving the mystery of what is at this cache. But will you be able to solve the bigger mystery that I haven't been able to solve?

Kolly Wobbels, Tahoe (Woof!) and I spent four days in this delightful town near the shore of Mono Lake. It lays claim to being the "Gateway to Yosemite Valley", but they have something much more interesting. It will be your job to find out what that is.

On the first day of our stay, we discovered something astonishing. Also astonishing, is the fact that this town doesn't tell anyone about it. They should have signs and brochures announcing this potential tourist attraction, but they don't. Even their visitor center on their main street does not mention it.

My son, 47Kyle47, spent a night in Lee Vining with grade school students from Sacramento. They stayed not more than four blocks from this exciting item in town, but didn't experience it, because no one told them about it.

This mysterious thing was owned and used by Nellie Bly (O'Brien) until she died. It was then moved from Lundy Lake to its current location.

It's a real mystery to figure out why the town of Lee Vining doesn't let others know about what they have. Perhaps you can help.

TO LOG THIS CACHE, email to me the following answers:
1. From the coordinates, what do you see that is very unusual?
2. What is unusual about it?
3. What is unusual about its insides?
4. How many steps on one side does it have?
5. What is unusual about the plaque on it?

Answers to the above questions are required to get credit for this cache. The next question is not required, because even I don't know the answer, but I am desperate to find it.
6. Please tell me why the people of Lee Vining keep this astonishing thing a secret. Tell me your theory or conclusions. (My theory is that it is an earthquake-volcano warning device. When it's problem is corrected, the rest of the neighborhood is in big trouble.)

NO BLABBERMOUTH REQUEST:
Please protect this secret by not alerting Lee Vining residents that they should advertise this interesting artifact. Those that have kept it a secret may have a reason and we should respect it for that reason. Maybe something happened here that they don't want people to know about. (Maybe they stole it.) We won't even share this secret with other geocachers who don't go there ...we don't want to take their fun and surprise away from them ...besides, .....if the secret gets out, I will have to change the name of this cache. (We can't have that!) So, remember.."shush!"
