This structure that you will come across was at one time the main water source for Southern Junior College when it moved from Graysville, Tennessee to this property known as the Thatcher Switch back in the early 1900s.
From the research that I have done on this area, it appears that these tanks were in operation for thirty years until another large water tank took over on the other side of the valley thirty years later. After operation at this location ceased and the replacement was in working order, attempts were made to bulldoze these tanks without success. The walls were built to last back in those days with strong concrete, and rebarb...so all the history here still remains. If you take some time to inspect some of the engravings that people put on the cement when it was built, you can come across some really neat dates. One of the dates that stuck out in my head was one in August 1933. You will be looking for an ammo box upon your arrival. Please be aware that this cache is not an easy one and some pointers should be brought out before you hunt it. This cache is not a kid-friendly cache! Their are many places that kids can get hurt if not careful, and I suggest precautions ahead of time to keep them supervised at all times. I suggest wearing hiking boots that you don't mind getting dirty. After all, isn't that the case in most caches with a terrain rating of 4.5? I suggest bringing the following Geo-gear: Flashlights, band-aids, water, flashlights, hiking sticks, gloves, flashlights, trading items, writing pen, and a flashlight. Please rehide the ammo box better than you found it, and if anyone knows anymore info about this place, then contact me and I will be happy to include it in this listing. **** This cache is cross-listed on GC.com GCV3AP **** |
