The first of 8 finds today, and our first multi-stage cache. We (LedHed, Kluntze, John, and I) got within a few feet of the cache, but our GPSrs were saying it was farther away, either in or beyond the brush. We took the 'don't take the hard way' advice, and went the long way around. But then I ended up going through the poison oak to get back to the cache. TNLN.

We started searching for this cache yesterday, while on our way to More Rock Piles cache.

Something was bugging one of the GeoRockers - Dale had to wait for the exterminator, so we were GeoRockers - 1 + 1 for most of yesterday.

Imagine our suprise when we ran into him... Our first question was... How did you know we would be here? And when?

Dale told us about Dis-Orienteering and that he had been searching for the cache for over 45 minutes...

Dale wrote down the first two coordinates - his printer was not working, then rushed out the door to get the first to find... unfortunately, he overlooked the rest of the details...

GeoRockers + 1 now searched for the cache!

Rocks were turned over, timber was moved, cement blocks were checked (Alcatraz was still fresh in our minds), items within 50 feet were checked (including the thicket of trees).

15 minutes later, we found the first marker and saw the multi-part cache symbol. Unfortunately, we didn't know how many parts were involved... sigh...

We went to the coordinates.

The searh for the cache or new coordinates began anew. Items within 50 feet where checked.

Sticks, pieces of wood, and unusual rocks (there were a lot of these) were checked for coordinates.

Large rocks were turned over.

The closest poles were checked. The numbers from the heads of the nails on the poles were noted, just in case they were part of the coordinates... sigh... after an hour of ineffectual searching, we continued on to More Rock Piles.

On the way back, we searched for another 30 minutes, just in case... We all went home to check on the details...

Amazing how a few details - like Get MAP!!! and Clue, really help to yield a successful cache hunt... ;)

Today, we were the 2nd group to find the cache, and it took less than 20 minutes.

The McNabb5 found it 5 hours earlier.

We took the Kleenex and left Dragon Ball Z.

Thanks for the cache... it was quite an experience... and we lived up to our motto... "We make mountains out of mole hills!"
