For the FTF: there is a Sassafrass Walking Stick hidden somewhere along the Trace. The cache contains an envelope with coord's for its hiding place. I think it will be a harder find than the cache was. If you don't want it, or don't have time to look for it, feel free to leave it for someone else.

Just north of the city of Cape Girardeau, MO, in Cape Girardeau County. White Oak Trace is located at the Missouri Department of Conservation Nature Center within North County Park.

Terrain: The trace consists of features two miles of nature trails over rolling hills. Paths are packed gravel, steep in places, with some steps over 12" high and multiple elevation changes of over 100'.
Altitude: Approx. 500' above MSL.

There are two trailheads located near the Nature Center and another connecting the nearby Cypress Crossing and Maple Hollow Trails. The trace consists of four trails (Tulip Poplar Hill, Ridgetop Trail, Paw Paw Valley and Sinkhole Bottom), forming three, half-mile, intersecting loops. Searching for the cache, count on walking one and a quarter to two miles for the round trip; depending on which trail you choose to start out on and follow. Ridgetop Trail ( mile) is paved and handicapped accessible; the search for the cache is not friendly to handicapped individuals, strollers, etc. Trail sections are gravel and may be steep in places; some individuals may find this to be a moderately strenuous hike.

This cache will be permanently archived. The hide required the searcher to leave the trails, which did not fall within the MO Department of Conservation's trail usage for this nature center.

Working with the nature center staff, I will be setting up two new caches, that will not require searchers to leave the trail. One will be along the handicapped accessible trail and one along the original trail. They should be up in the near future.

Subject : Geocache on White Oak Trace

Mr. Tee,

I am an Education Specialist with the Cape Girardeau Conservation Campus Nature Center. I wanted to let you know that we have removed your geocache from White Oak Trace. I did read that you received permission from the park superintendent, but he does not have jurisdiction over the nature center grounds. Because the Nature center
is relatively new, we are still in the process of determining whether or not geocaches will be allowed on our grounds. We do appreciate you including our hours of operations, trail rules, and trash bags with your

Please contact (name omitted), the Nature Center Manager, to discuss the possibility of placing your geocache on White Oak Trace and to pick up your geocache box. She can be reached at (573)290-5218 ext 297.

Thank you,
