Named for the land formation it is located on this cache area provides a unique perspective on the awesome gorge at Letchworth. It is not recommended for small children, as the rim of the gorge is not fenced. As you approach the cache stop for a moment at N42 43.227 W077 55.009 for the first of several very nice gorge views. In addition to the regular items we have included one of Mrs. Rocky's infamous CACHING HATS. We ask that this item not be removed, but encourage all who find the cache to model the hat, both for the cache camera and your own photos. Unless you are Bob Bowter there is only one way in and out, see the encrypted hints for parking and starting instructions. You may also want to stop by the Mt. Morris Dam Visitors Center located at N42 43.874 W077 54.360.
DO NOT TAKE ANY RISK NEAR THE EDGE OF THE RIM. THE CACHE IS IN A SAFE PLACE THAT IS BACK AWAY FROM RIM.Although well hidden you will find it just by moving a dead limb or piece of bark, please put things back as you found them. |

Finally! Haha...some time ago I completed What's The Point which is right across the gorge from this cache, and made a valiant attempt to figure out how to get to the Hog's Back (with absolutely no success, haha!)...so today I made sure to plan the route and in no time we found it!

Open Log: Personal use only This is my second time in this area - but the first time we didn't have coordinates . Came back with RK and found it and took time to enjoy the scenery again. Left a special pencil with a message on it. Took nothing. Used your camera and posed with the hat - #19 (I think).

I deserve double creadit for this one in that I've found it twice now and in a different location. This second hiding is in a much nicer spot and less apt to be seen by passers by. On top of that there is a new hat, so I managed to take another photo (#20 I think). What a treat to be at this lovely spot in the spring. I was accompanied by "Prof" ( a newbee to train at Huckle Buckle Beanstalk)who enjoyed the views as well. Took nothing but left a pocket knife and a McDonalds bear.

Open Log: Personal use only We also found trash on the ground, right in the area of the coordinates. Looks like it may have been plundered again. Included packaging from a precision screwdriver set, Fun Dough, a blue and white pen etc. -- stuff that looks like it was from a cache. We packed the trash out, and decided not to look any further for the cache since this seems to be from it. Hope I'm wrong Rocky, I've enjoyed all the Rocky caches, including the beautiful views from this one.

Open Log: Personal use only Mrmeasure and the Gofer (wife) had a very special day. Our 50th find, and it was a Rocky cache. Only two Rocky's to go!! Picked the hottest day, but a cool hike. Great views of the gorge. The Gofer found it in about three minutes. Is that luck or skill! It was a great and clever hiding place. Without the Gofer, I might still be looking. Took the pocket knife, and left a valued item from our reknowned white trash collection. A set of dice valve covers for tires. Of course we modeled the Mrs. Rocky hat. Mr and Mrs Measure

Open Log: Personal use only Back at it after a 2 month lay off. (Had to help my cousin make 345 gallons of Maple Syrup.) Found it without much trouble. Coordinates dead on! Liked the views. It started to rain as we opened the cache. Donna immediately wanted the hat (to keep her hair dry). Told her she had to leave it as it was for picture taking only - which we did. At least it helped keep her hair dry while signing the log. Left nothing - took nothing except enjoyment of the views. Thanks Rocky.

First of two caches on this rainy afternoon. Traveling with MrMom, Cory27 and Goo. The rain held off on the nice hike in. Found cache around 5:40. Took picture #21 of Goo wearing the infamous hat, Cory27 flashing a #7 (for his 7th find) and myself. Checked out the great view as I had never been on this side of the gorge after so many trips to Letchworth Park. Rain started as soon as we began our hike back. We were soaked by the time we returned to the car. Enjoyed this cache anyways!!

Major Whoops...Had the digital in the van. Best views with A LOT less traffic. Great area swarming with cachers today. Met 2 groups today! Fearless leader had me at the GPS helm. Thought that I messed up but did the right turn back. Lost sats often but in the end got within 10 feet of the cache. Beautiful just wish I had a bungy on butterfly girl who kept peering over. Cache was in great shape! Took calculator (Sweety Gal only does math if one is present), key clip and space wheel (Butterfly says major thanks for this..has her mezmerized). Left Touched by an Angel CD, balancing guy on high bar (metal balance thing) and cubix. Butterfly took a pic of me in hat...What had us grinny was the number of times we had to go back to cache after we hid it...Eversure wasn't so today and left his find...Sweety couldn't find $100 retainer....So back again...Blessed with Fearless' reasoning...It was still in her mouth.....Then got a Grumpy toy at McD's...Go figure.....Thanks for the beauty!!!

Open Log: Personal use only Fantastic cache adventure. What a great area that I never knew was there. Mrs. Gimpy & I headed down the very scenic trail around 2:00 pm on this gorgeous(hehe)Fall afternoon & within minutes I was popping off pictures on my digital. Some of these shots will definitely be in frames on our walls. The walk along the trail was no problem, until the Mrs. thought she'd try a little shortcut down the hill, & started to look like Peggy Fleming as she slid along on top of hundreds of acorns. We thought we'd seen it all till we got to the cache location. The view from there rivals anything we saw up in the Adirondacks last weekend.Cache is in great shape. We took the fishing lure left by RoadKill & left a Mickey Mouse keychain.Took a snapshot of myself & the wife, she in the Mrs.Rocky caching hat, with the camera. Left my mark in the log book, & then we continued on farther down the trail to catch some more beauty. This was truly one of the most enjoyable cache outings I've been on & we thank you. Excellent job!

Road Kill was awed by the views. I was taking pictures and nearly forgot what I was there for. Sun going down at 5PM and leaves were in all their glory. Practically stepped on the cache while taking pictures. Oh Yes the cache box was stuffed but the 1st order of business was to take a photo with the cache hat. Not quite for Road Kill but I grinned anyway. (took 2 photos). I had to have the National Geographic Magazine and left in its place 2 gold dollars and a fishing lure. Not enough fish line the reach water anyway.

(Hidden: 26 Score: 135)
Open Log: Personal use only Since Rocky's been the first at all four of my caches, I enjoyed the opportunity to be the first at one of his. Also got paid back for putting him through a deep gully at the "Blair Witch" site; we left the FL trail a hundred yards too soon and wound up going over some terrain that was "crawl up, butt-scoot down" before we found the trail to the cache. Mrs. Barrington and Penny were getting a little peeved till we found the real trail was a lot easier. Gorgeous spot (pun intended), but definitely not one to do in the dark or after an ice storm. The Magellan 315 was within 16 feet of agreeing with the coordinates, so no problem finding it. Took a couple of pics with "The Hat" (gotta get one of those), took nothing, left a "Where's George" bill. Thanks, Rocky, for an enjoyable hike in a beautiful place! |
