A bit of a maze of roads and trails; at least 2 mile walk each way with some elevation change. Trails are somewhat rough, but obvious. For this cache you really don't need to leave the trail. Rubbermaid container within a foot of the trail.

This is located with a view of valley that contains Cooper's Plains, although you have to look between the trees to see the valley. It is 2 miles from the parking lot at N42° 10.283' W77° 10.973'. (There is another parking lot about a half mile closer, but I will let you figure that out if you wish (but you will miss some interesting trails).
This is the 4th cache in the Erwin Game Management Area (EGMA). If you want to visit them all, I would suggest you do them in this order: Deep Pine Forest Cache, Erwin Beaver Pond Cache, The Hatfield's and McCoy's Cache, and then this Cache. (Third cache is the most hidden one.) If you do all 4, you will probably walk a total of more than 6 miles. (In addition, there are 2 more caches in the nearby in the Erwin Hollow State Forest.)

After you get to the "Hatfield" cache at N 42° 09.996' W 077° 10.058', you can return to the trail that got you there and continue North and East until you get to a smaller trail which leads to the left (north) at about N 42° 10.221' W 077° 09.211'. Take this trail until you get to wide cleared path heading north. (This is the boundary of the EGMA). Go nearly to the top of the hill where you have the view. Continue most of the way to the end – a few yards from the end, on the right hand (west) side is a tree with the sign "Public Hunting Grounds". The cache is located just behind the tree just a foot off the wide cleared trail. See photo for more hint.

The cache is made some random items plus about 30+ foreign coins. Please sign the log, take a couple coins, and leave something.

If you want a vigor walk back with more elevation changes(!), take the path east N 42° 10.464' W 077° 09.050'. There is a view at N 42° 10.495' W 077° 09.336', then on the boundary, go south 0.3 miles, and then west to N 42° 10.227' W 077° 10.066'. You will see a trail to the south. This winds its way back to park road. Then go back to your car.

I found it! 13 Jul 2002 by  Harv and Donna  (Finds: 152  Score: 707)    (Hidden: 0  Score: 0)

6th of 6 hard finds today. Started to my first one at 9:15 this morning and found this one at 5:25 PM. Got back to car at 6:30 PM.Came here from The Hatfields and McCoys. I was tired, but I wanted to finish all 6 of them. This was a nice trail in a nice woods, but it sure got long coming out/up. Coordinates dead on. Think the reason there are so many accidental finds by hunters is the location. The tree is just a real natural place for hunters to stand while hunting.
Logged in, took/left nothing except a squirt of bug spray. It was a long hike back to the car. I was whipped. Probably be hurting in the morning. Think I did about 12 miles today, at least half of them up hill. I want to thank you for 4 of the 6 Erwin hides. I really enjoyed them all.
