The cache commemorates a major caching milestone for BunkerDave. Way to go BD! There is nothing hidden at the posted coordinates, which are for a beautiful swimming hole along one of a few logical routes (and the best dog-friendly route) to the cache location. Solve an easy puzzle, and get ready for a difficult hike. To find the cache coordinates, you will have to look up some of the legendary exploits of BunkerDave. The following adventure inspired fellow Utah cachers to coin the verb "to bunkerdave". A part of tale reads like this: "I noticed a dead snag next to the cliff that was more like a pole than a tree. By wedging myself between the pole and the cliff, I managed to get the rest of the way down the rock. Just after I committed to this little stunt, I heard the unmistakable rattle of a rattlesnake, albeit a small one. I froze stiff immediately, and could see it crawling down a branch on the cliff not four feet in front of my face. Brrrr. After a change of shorts, I continued down the slope to the stream at the bottom of the canyon, and still saw no trail. By this time I'd have paid good money to see a trail." Do you know which cache was BD's goal on that trip? Add 2.653 to its latitude. The next adventure resulted in one of the first and best-organized team hunts in Utah caching history. A part of BD's tale reads like this: "I began to wonder if I would actually be able to get OUT of this place, and my attention turned to testing out my exit route. At first, it proved to be a little more difficult than I thought it would be, and then it quickly became MUCH more difficult. There was a moment when it actually crossed my mind that I might not be able to get out on my own, and I had visions of the 6 o'clock news. GEOCACHER RESCUED FROM BOTTOMLESS POOL - Story at 10. At least I HOPED it would say RESCUED, as opposed to salvaged." Do you know which cache it was? Add 10.769 to its longitude. The cache is a pint-sized white plastic jar, full of goodies, icluding a stealth cach-u-nut gamepiece, hidden some 100 ft NW from the top. |

Open Log: Personal use only Well, I got within .15 miles of this one, but my drop-dead turnaround was 7pm, and that was when I reached the ridge to the south of the cache. I took a direct route (naturally) from Silver Lake via Silver Glance Lake. Had to use crampons and axe for most of the elevation from Silver Glance, as there is still a lot of snow in that basin. Actually made for pretty nice going, if steep, and i enjoyed my glissade down very much. Isnt' it odd how when glissading, if there is ONE rock on the whole show field, that is exactly where you will end up? This was teh case for me more than once today. I did not get the cache this time, but I had a great hike, and will be back. After all, it's got my NAME on it! bd
