The cache is a small ammo box hidden amongst the rocks. Please read the long description carefully for details on locating this cache.
As this cache is located in a Disease Risk Area, no vehicles are allowed without permits. Therefore you will need to walk into the cache. The suggested walk is a 13 km round trip along old logging tracks and the Bibbulmun Track, thus no off-track walking is need. Whilst water is available near the cache at the campsite, this water is for overnight campers, therefore if you are only day walking this cache, I strongly encourage you carry two-litres per person for the walk. Please do NOT DRIVE OR RIDE A BIKE on the Bibbulmun Track or near the cache location. The cache is located in a Disease Risk Area (no vehicles without a permit) and it is illegal to drive or ride on the Bibbulmun Track. I have two suggestions for walking into this cache. The first is the better option in my view and involves a 13 km return walk from the foothills of Mt Cooke. I suggest you park at S32 26.069 - E116 18.971 and follow the old logging road picking up the Bibbulmun Track at the power line. From there just follow the track/ your GPSr to the ground zero. The cache is located near five star accommodation option, the Bibbulmun Track new Nerang campsite. The campsite provides an opportunity for overnight camping if this is your thing. The coordinates for the campsite are S32 27.698 - E116 22.633. One thing to note, this approach is within the National Park, which means no dogs. Alternatively you can can park at the Pike Road/Albany Highway intersection (Pike Road is closed) and walk in either along Pike Road to the Bibbulmun Track or alternatively follow the various old logging tracks to the near the Nerang campsite and then the cache. This option is approximately a 10 km round trip. I hope you enjoy the walk and the hunt. Please log your find in the cache and on Navicache.com. Please no multiple logs, but please do leave a photo or two. Phone a friend is allowed, but hopefully not required. Wondering what Nerang means? It is Nyoongar for little house by water. The old Nerang campsite (500 m north) was located on the banks of a creek. The new Nerang campsite is set further back from the creek but in a more beautiful spot. |
