I was wandering around downtown Buffalo, N.Y. during down time at the 2005 Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tourney, snapping pics of statues, memorials and historical plaques for "shutterspots" to be listed on the gpsgames.org website. I was so impressed with the Police Memorial, that I decided it needed to be a virtual cache.

I couldn't place this cache without a shoutout to my daugther Fleece's Gus Macker team, the Bubblegum Skittles, who easily breezed through their bracket, and won first place. Whoever said Catholic Schoolgirls couldn't ball?

This cache is also dedicated to my late father, who was a 25 year veteran of the Tonawanda, N.Y. Police Department.

  • Identify the date that the memorial was dedicated; found on the inscription that begins "In honor of those...."
  • If you were to think of the memorial as a large hockey puck, how many names are inscribed on the sides of the puck?
  • Identify the last name of the only officer on the memorial whose first name is Orville.
  • Identify the address of the building directly across the street from the memorial (prominently displayed on the outside of the building).

Hey Urkel (haha, yes, here you're still WhiteUrkel baby!), Chicky and I were out and about today doing all the oddball non-GC type caches and this one popped on my radar as one to check out. If it wasn't for this cache, I would have never known about this spot. Pretty neat - though it looks like the fountain aspect of it isn't currently operating. Perhaps down for the winter?

Either way, this was a cool stop. As little as I know about Buffalo, I did like getting introduced to new thingies. Thanks for the NC...my second non-GC find of yours today! Yay for alternative geocaching! Haha.

I am embarrassed that it took me this long to get around to finishing this virtual. I have seen this monument many times and it was very cool to actually go up to it and take a nice close look. Thanks for the fun.

A great cache for our first one! Nice work by Max and Charlie to discover it.

My mom, daughter and I did this one right after the Downtown Statue tour. This was another great virtual cache, we had a blast doing this and the nice walk downtown.

A very nice virtual, still can't understand why that "other site" has killed them off.
E-mail on the way.

This one was only 2 blocks from my office! I've walked near it several times on the way walking down to the marina for lunch, but never noticed it before. Unfortunately I was beaten to the FTF by the speedy Mr. Z. Email sent, thanks for bringing me to the memorial.

The cache is obviously in Downtown Buffalo. The maps and location (near Burt, N.Y.) are due to me submitting it as N43 deg. as opposed to N42 deg. DOH!!! I'm sure the powers that be at Navicache will be fixing this soon.
