The terrain is very easy, and is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers (although if you tour the oldest house, there are steps into the house and up to the second floor.) No poison ivy, no thorns, no chiggers, and no fire ants!

You may park at any one of the three points and walk to the other two:

1) Start at N35 19.692 & W096 54.959. Find the bust of a civic leader who was a local pharmacist and postmaster. Note the man’s nickname. You’ll need to remember or write down the three letters of his nickname.

2) Go to N35 19.722 & W096 54.980. Read the marker describing the oldest surviving house in Shawnee. Remember or write down the last name of the family that built the cabin. The exhibits in the museum indicate that this family, who made the 1891 land run, were not only land speculators, but also founders and promoters of the new town of Shawnee.

3) Go to N35 19.660 & W096 54.962. Write down or remember the year commemorated here.

Also write down or remember who is buried here: you will need to e-mail us the complete name in order to log the cache (please be sure not to give it away to others by putting the name in your log entry!) You may log your cache after you have e-mailed us (waiting is no fun), but we will delete any log that has not sent confirmation data. Now, to complete this cache you’ll need to combine the saved words and year, which when combined and used
as a password, will enable you to unlock a beautiful certificate of accomplishment created especially for this
cache. You can print it out in full color, put it in an expensive frame, and hang it on your wall!

Anyway. Take the three letters of the man’s nickname from #1, followed by the five letters of the family's from #2. Now, add the year from #3 and place them after the names (all lowercase letters) – ie: xxxxxxxx####, where ‘x’ is a letter of the word and name abbreviation, and ‘#’ is a date. This is the password which will open the file containing the Certificate of Accomplishment.

This very interesting Museum houses exhibits explaining the history of Shawnee and Pottawatomie County and hosts special events, such as the annual Woodcarvers' Fun Day with music, dancing, food, and buggy rides. The Museum is free, but
donations are accepted.


Visit this link to find out about the town and other local attractions. If you time your hunt right it can coincide with the Redbud Festival, the Pottawatomie County FREE Fair or one of the other events.

Families with small children may want to bring a picnic and check out the playground designed to look like this landmark, located at N35 20.438 & W096 54.431.
