The Steamboat Trace trail is southeast of Nebraska city near the Missouri River and the OPPD Nebraska City Power Station. Trail is hardpack gravel and very level. Watch out for ticks in the brush.

The Steamboat Trace has been designed by the National Park Service as part of the Lewis & Clark Historic Trail. It's comprised of 21 miles of abandoned railroad corridor that parallels the Missouri River in Otoe and Nemaha Counties in Nebraska. The trail is closed in November and January because of hunting season.

The cache is placed near a Lewis & Clark point of interest (informational sign with bench). The cache is in a green plastic jar with a small "Official Geocache" sticker on it.

Cache Contents:

* Log Book and Pencils
* Disposable Camera
* Whatever You Leave minus Whatever You Take (please only take items that are comparable in value to what you leave)

Use the camera to take a picture of yourself and your fellow geocachers. Place the camera back in the ziplock when done and leave it in the cache. When the camera is full I will develop the film and post the pictures here.

The easiest way to access the area is by taking Highway 75 south out of Nebraska City and then heading east on County Road K.

There is good parking at N 40 37.214/W 095 47.890 at the Steamboat Trace Arbor Station Trailhead. This will put you about 2.75 miles north of the cache.

There is poorer but closer parking at N 40 35.886/W 095 47.321 that will put you about 0.75 miles north of the cache.

Had a great time. This was our first geocache. We spent a little time looking on our own before we used the clues. Found that several individuals have attended the site and only a few pictures remain on the camera. Awesome day and nice walk. We chose to park at the closer location for the sake of our 4 year old daughter and my back/shoulders. We had plenty of room and parking was in gravel area designated for parking.
