RAW POWER! By MrMom, MrsMom and Goo. 26 May, 2002 N43*07.114 / W079*03.856
This is our third cache in the Lower Niagara River Gorge Series. This series begins at the Northern end of the river ( downstream ) with "RAPID ART" followed by "A DEVIL OF A HIKE" and ends with "RAW POWER!" As you progress South ( upstream ) the level of difficulty increases. All hikes are near very steep cliffs without railings on well used trails. For your safety stay on the trails. No bushwhacking here. Follow waypoints carefully. Although we are experienced nighttime hikers, the last two caches must not be attempted at night. My seven year old daughter completed all hikes with minimal complaints. Please also visit our Upper Niagara River Series now nearing completion. All readings were taken with a Garmin 176c and a Garmin III. Averaged accuracy's are better than 30 feet. The cache is located within Whirlpool State Park in Niagara Falls NY. To begin the experience which will fill or drain your mind and soul of RAW POWER, park then read the sign at N43*07.149 / W079*03.850. Fire up your GPS. Yes the cache is only 212' yet one hour away. Gaze over the railing, look down 450', you might be able to spot the goal. Follow the path downstream to N43*07.448 / W079*03.562 and descend 306 stairs. At the lower trail let your GPS show you the way. The trails for the most part stay dry. At points, the trail has been covered by rock slides. There are many spots to stop and take in the RAW POWER; you'll need it to get back up. The thunder of The Mighty Niagara awaits you. The original contents of the cache include: CD Million dollar erasers Leather bag Kids toothpaste Drink holder Peanut butter crackers Practice golf balls and tees Bird glider Deck of cards Matchbox car |

Open Log: Personal use only Had some fun down in the gorge with Urkel trying to finish up the caches in there. Pretty hot out and I was just getting over being sick, plus Urk is getting old, so we needed to stop several times on the way to and from to take a break. Everytime I come down in the gorge, I'm still amazed at its grandeur. We found the cache within a few minutes after chatting with a passing cacher. TFTC, TNLN.

Open Log: Personal use only I once walked right by this on the way to another (not listed on Navicache) cache .13 miles away. I wasn't really even a newbie then, just stupid :-). So it took me two years to drag my ass back down there. I forgot to say in all my logs that Devil of a hike and Raw Power are both dry and in good shape. A little rust on both ammo boxes, but nothing like Rapid Art. TFTC Mr. Mom.

A beautiful day for a long walk/hike. The amount of water flowing by is impressive. Lots of people out on trail.

Open Log: Personal use only Stayed on the lower trail after doing Devil of a Hike and Niagara Gorge Trail. We had been getting a low battery signal since Devil of a Hike. So we estimated our speed on the rocks and shut it off for 15-20 minutes while we made progress towards the cache. We enjoyed walking over this “path” if you can call it that in some areas. Lots of fun. Found the cache around 1:30 (maybe a little later). Took nothing, left nothing.
