Note: we couldn't find this cache on 10/2/05. The area looked not quite the same in summer, and we didn't bring the picture # 1 ("the group at the cache site") to compare it with the summer view. I will also look for more pictures from the February trip to see if there are any extra pictorieal clues. The picture #1 is shot from a North-facing gully and the cache was hung from a tree in perhaps 50 yards from the location in the picture, West of the low point of the gully.
We'll return to investigate it further. In the meantime we had to place a temp container (just tupperware and a sheet of paper) in a double 20-footer fir tree at the originally planned location (without the 0.2 min typo). Be sure to treat youself to a great viewpoint 200 ft ENE from there! Scubadog has recently reached a milestone of 1000 cache finds. Time to celebrate! As before, I would like to present the milestone cacher with a personalized puzzle cache. And I already promised Scubadog to hide it far in Western Uinta mountains. But to make it into a puzzle? About scuba? For the dogs? I don't really know much about scuba diving ... all I can do after coming back from another snowy day is to grab a stack of diving books, and daydream about warm waters and tropical sealife... like this:  The cache is within a mile of its listed coordinates (which are for a mountain pass overlooking Erickson Basin, and which may, but do not have to, be reached enroute to the cache site). To find the exact location of the cache, you would need to find a certain NUMBER using the information provided above. The coordinates for the cache are N 40 4<NUMBER> W 111<HALF-NUMBER> ( Of course, for your convenience, you may through away all but first 4 digits of the NUMBER for the lattitude, and all but 5 first digits for the longitude. To HALVE the number, divide each of its digits by two. You should have no problem with rounding since the first 5 digits of the NUMBER are all even). OOPS! I did my mental math slightly wrong on the trail. Please add 0.2 minutes to the longitude you get! An example: suppose the number you are looking for is 620845790, then the coords would be N 40 46.208 and W 111 31.242, since 62084 / 2 = 31042. For the dogs, the cache contained some doggie treats. Otherwise the ammobox was full of trinkets and toys, including a cool ammo-like cach-u-nuts gamepiece. It is placed to be accessible year round. We put it in place in the dead of winter, skiing to the site from the area of milepost 11 of Mirror Lake highway, by the way of Norway Flats - Lower Shingle Lake and back over Big and Little Elk Lakes. It took us just over 5 hours to reach the site, on a fantastic bluebird day. Will post a few pics later :) |

We came with Jasmine and Max to try to move this cache to its proper location (without the embarassing 0.2 min typo), but couldn't find. To say the truth it was hard to recognize the place in summer, and we didn't bring this shot
