The cache is located in the vicinity of where a thoughtless pet owner set his four foot long, 80 pound American Alligator free along Scajaquada Creek in June 2001.

The Gator, which was first spotted on June 23, 2001, terrorized local residents and evaded capture for five days, despite the best efforts of City Animal control workers, who set chicken-baited traps all up and down the creek.

To complicate matters, Trappers reported being Spit on, and having debris hurled at them by curious onlookers throughout the five day ordeal.

The Gator was captured only on the fifth day, after he was distracted by a rat swimming in the creek, and a dog snare was looped around his neck.

Apparently the Gator was read his Miranda Rights after aprehension, and excercised his "right to remain silent", because the disinterested pet owner was never found.

You can read all about the story at this website from ESPN Outdoors Gotham gator caught in Buffalo, N.Y. creek

Park in the parking lot of a large plaza at Grant and Amherst Streets. Here you can rent a movie, enjoy a Whopper, Super Mighty, delicious food from the Carry-Out Cafe, or my personal favorite, a six pack of Natural Light to go. At the south end of the parking lot, you can acess a paved bike trail that runs along Scajaquada Creek, from Delaware Park to Niagara Street.

The terrain is rated 2.5 stars for a reason; be careful with the kiddies on this one. The cache is a small Tupperware container, large enough for only a few small trade items, and can accomodate some smaller Travel Bugs.

Wow, eight Navicache finds, not bad. I was convinced this thing was a goner with no geocaching.com finds in 2.5 months, but it was still there, just tampered with slightly, still in the original spot, but uncovered. Moved about 15 feet, upgrading coords. Not much of a move, but feel free to log the re-find if you're in the neighborhood sometime.

Very creepy area where the cache is hidden, and also many skeeters. Took a whistle key-chain, left a fossil-doc shark tooth. Very nice job, TWU.

Another find while working on the Sherlock Holmes #3 cache. The alligator may be gone but it appears there are a few big tooth beavers stil lurking in the area.

Liked this cache a whole lot. Was a very easy cache with a good hiding spot. Remote little area between the Expressway and Amherst Street.
