The Marten Lake Trail is a relatively unmaintained fisherman's access trail. The trail climbs steeply through old growth forest. The route is extremely brushy and very steep. Because of the heavy brush, this trail can be difficult to find and is not recommended for the inexperienced hiker. (however, sometimes the brush helps, if you notice the tunnel or path through it--that is what I did.)
This lake was stocked as early as June 6, 1949 with 5000 rainbow. It was a typical early Trail Blazer plant with several people to carry the fish in cans. This trip was sponsored by George Kniert.

A nice hike up an old fisherman's trail. (bring your pole, but watch the tip in the ever encroaching low branches.)
On hike - At a large boulder about the size of a house, stay right and the decending path.
Marten Lake Trail #1006 via Snoqualmie Lake Trail #1002 - The Alpine Lakes
Trail is rather difficult to follow in places. Very slippery when wet and/or snowy.
The highest elevation on the trail is 2,950 feet. Cautions along the trail include brush, rough terrain, avalanche danger early in season and difficult routefinding. The best seasons to hike this trail are spring, summer and fall.

Some previous trail reports I read mentioned a cougar in the area. The area is pristine, so please keep your party small.

Access
I-90 to exit #34. Turn north toward 468th Avenue. In 0.6 mile turn right onto SE Middle Fork Road #56. Drive for 12.0 miles to the junction after the bridge crossing. Continue on the left fork to Road #5640 and in another 0.4 mile park at the gate.

cache is a green rocket tube container with the usual cache stuff.

Hike Snoqualmie Lake Trail #1002 for 3.0 miles to the junction and take the left fork to the Marten Lake Trailhead (about 150 feet before the Marten Creek bridge crossing).
