This is a multi-cache located in Sampson State Park. There is a park fee of $6.00 from late May through Sept. This cache is approved by the park manager as of 5/15/05.

The cache is a 50 cal ammo can placed off an unmarked but visually apparent trail. All points except for the final waypoint are easy to get to by bike, car or a long walk. The final waypoint does require a walk in the woods. Because of the distance someone might travel to get to the cache, we listed each waypoint in the clues. Only look if you don't want the challenge of the puzzle or believe that one of us made a mistake. Each waypoint provides information about the history of the park. If you are spending the day there, you might enjoy visiting each of these areas.

1. At the starting Waypoint, find a 4 digit number you would use to send a letter to the park.

Subtract 10 from the starting latitude to get the latitude for Waypoint 2

Subtract 5613 from the 4 digit number you found. Add the result to the starting longitude to get the longitude for Waypoint 2.

2. At Waypoint 2. How many recruits were at Sampson? You will find a 6 digit number. Take the last two digits of this six digit number and add 30 to it. Subtract the result from your current latitude to get the latitude for Waypoint 3.

Add 368 to the current longitude to get the longitude for Waypoint 3.

3. You should now be at the Memorial. Count the number of letters engraved on the center stone around the insignia.
Fill in the first two blanks with these numbers _ _ 9.

You now have a 3 digit number. Subtract this 3 digit number from your current latitude to get the latitude for Waypoint 4.

Divide the number of World War II Navy vets by 20. Add 90 to your answer. Add this number to the current longitude to get the longitude for Waypoint 4.

4. Multiply the length of Seneca Lake by 2. Add 4 to the result. Subtract this number from your current latitude to get the latitude for Waypoint 5.

Subtract 467 from the water depth in feet of Seneca Lake near Lodi. Subtract this number from the current longitude to get the longitude for Waypoint 5.

5. Proceed to the cache.

Found an empty Budwieser Beer bottle in the cache, too bad it was empty, could have had a celebration!
My fiancee Amy took me on a caching road trip for an early Christmas present, what a wonderfull woman, she's been my best friend for years! I'll post the pictures she took as soon as I get them developed.
Took Nothing, left 100 cents ( 1 dollar bill) as a commerative of the milestone.

I did all the steps to get to the final cache. I didn't even notice until I was done that I had all the waypoints in the hint part of the cache print out. I had an interesting tour of the park anyway! Great spot the final cache is in. I took the puzzle, geo chip and travel bug Brando's Humvee. I left a R2-D2 figure, globe key chain and the travel bug Big Seatle Bug. Thanks for the cache.

No trouble with this one. Did all the waypoints and the math and found the cache quickly. There was a flock of turkey buzzards in the trees above the cache guarding it. They must roost there frequently as the ground is covered in feathers and droppings. Signed the log, took/left nothing. Thanks Blackpete for the 4 hides and a fun afternoon in a very unique park that I had never been to before.

A park we would have never known existed if it weren't for Navicaching! What history... as a side trip, stop and visit the museum. The waypoints gave us an appreciation for the history of the park. We can't help but think that Sampson looks like the Cracker Jack sailor....hahaha. Great hike in the woods, loved it! The Lyndon Road Gang
