These three locations will take you to places worth spending some time at - why rush ? Part of your challenge is to locate and return the caches without others knowing what you are doing :-) On a more serious note: if you have children with you, keep them on a tight reign - there is deep and fast flowing water here. Also take care if you decide to cross the road for a drink: easiest to walk under the bridge and cross the minor road.

What is now a public clue was a part of what I decoded from the first stage.

I've been back again, with a torch, but still without success. The ivy is so thick there now I suspect it's probably still there, but I just can't get to it. No need to do anything about it just for me, it's only worth replacing if the level of interest in Navicaching picks up a bit. However, if you do go there, you might check the Nauticalia clue for the first stage as I think it may have changed since the cache was set.

Goodness me Andy. It's many years since we planted this one, but I think I could remember the general area. I'd have to dig out my notes from April 2002. Probably best talk privately on gpss@compuserve.com so we don't spoil things for others.

A couple of weeks ago I called into the first location on my way to work. I made an attempt to decode the next location from the clues, but while bits and pieces made some sense, there were sections that didn't.

So when I got home I worked on the basis that one of the clues may have changed since this was last found, which I guess was some time ago. I scanned the web for very old references, and I looked through my old invoices - Nauticalia isn't really a chandlery, it's mostly a (very successful) gift shop with a pseudo-nautical orientation, but they do a few "proper" boating bits and I bought an outboard engine for my dinghy many years ago.

Eventually I came up with an alternative clue that fitted much better, worked it all out - then put it to one side and promptly forgot about it.

Today, despite it being December, was sunny and quite warm. So I went down to where I moor the boat at Chertsey and took her out for a trip round Pharoh's Island. As I came into sight of Shepperton Lock I suddenly remembered my unfinished business with this cache! The trouble was that I didn't have the details with me - would my memory serve me well enough? I moored up just above the lock and gave it a go.

And I think I probably was in the right place. I couldn't remember what I was looking for, and thought it was going to be a piece of laminated paper, but I don't think that was the reason I didn't find it - it is very overgrown there now, and the sunny afternoon meant there were several people out and about, restricting the duration of my activities.

I'll see if Robin is willing to confirm if I was in the right general area, and if so I'll try again on a weekday.
