Cache is located in Taughannock Falls State Park. The cache is approved by the State Park 5/05.

Cache is a 50 Cal Green Ammo can.

Don't miss the falls and the views along both the rim trail and the gorge trail.

Taughannock falls is 215 feet high. When viewing the falls, look to the right side, high on the rock face. You should see an arch or "door". Since the Iroquois could not explain this phenomona, they created a legend about the door. Chief Ganungueguch's tribe lived along Taughannock Creek near the waterfall. Chief Taughannock and his Delawares raided the tribes in the area (Cayuga, Seneca) but were defeated and most of the Delawares who did survive were adopted by their captors. One of these braves fell in love with White Lily, a Cayuga maiden. One dark night the the brave and White Lily fled toward the Delaware's canoe on the shore of Cayuga Lake. Being chased by the Cayuga braves, the entire village was alerted and joined in the chase. Running through the pine forest the couple knew they would not make the crossing at the creek above the falls. Chosing death over the torture that would be inflicted on the brave per the Iroquois code, they stood on the edge of the falls, embraced, and leapt. Since it was dark, the villagers returned to the falls in the morning to gather the remains for burial. But when they returned, they could not find the brave and maiden. It was said that the Great Spirit was aware of the young couple's love and he opened the "door" high on the side of the ravine. When they jumped he ushered them through the secret passageway and closed the door tightly behind them.

Whatever you do, don't get near the edge anywhere in the park. The Great Spirit may not be watching out for you.

Great views from here, reminded me a lot of Letchworth State Park. Cache was found with ease, very nice hiding spot. Thanks for the hide.

Drove in from Rochester to see the falls and do a couple of Caches along the way. Had to see the falls from the lower Gorge trail and the cache was less than .1 of a mile from there. Even though I knew I wasn't near it it was strange since the elevation was 210' or so. wierd. Got on the Hi trail and found it fairly quickly. Co'ords were right on ! Didn't know there was a bug in there or I would have snatched it. Going to NJ in acouple of weeks and am bring a group of bugs with me to plant. Maybe pick up a few to bring back. Oh well maybe next time. Took nothing Left Nothing.

We found this one at 4:30 just before dusk.

This is a great park, I wish we were able to get down there more often.

The signs said this trail is closed for the season but it was clear and pretty dry today. I'm not sure why they would close since it doesn't look like it would be that dangerous - even with snow cover.

We took an ear warmer and G-buck and left a candle, gloves and sewing kit. The Mini Trimmer travel bug is still in the cache but we were headed the wrong way...

Fantastic hide it blends in very well. In the morning my daughter and I
rode our bikes over from camping at the Grass Roots Festival and enjoyed
the quiet of the woods and then a swim on the way back.Took Pine Wood
Derby car and left a flashlight and glow stick.
Thanks for the tough hide.

We found this one around 7:54pm. We were hoping to be first, but we were 2nd by 1 1/2 hrs. Great area to walk around. It took us about 15 minutes to find from our car. When you go make sure you really take a look at all the great views! We took a Naval mini tool set and Sailboat pin. We left Silly putty and a HBO promo item. This was our 4th cache of the day.
