This Cache is a polycarbonate 25mm AMMO box that has been placed in Turning Point Park in the city of Rochester, near a hiking trail that sees high public usage. This Park is in an old railroad industrial area of the city where railroad cars unloaded coal into the holds of large ships below in the Genesee River for export to Canada. There are many trails (paved and dirt) through hardwoods that take you to vistas of the Genesee River below. One of the many spectacular views is of the small bay near a point in the Genesee River that was used by the large steamer ships to turn around before loading their cargo of coal and heading back out to Lake Ontario....hence...Turning Point Park.
The current geocache location is being placed for a geocaching demonstration to be held on April 20, 2002 at the City of Rochester's "Earth Day Celebration". The box is being loaded with freebie stuff for the celebration but fellow geocachers are encouraged to stop by time to log their find and swap some prizes. When replacing the cache in it's hiding spot, please try to hide the box as well or better than I did so that it will not be found easily by non-cachers. One of the prizes in the cache container is a pair of RPO (Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra) tickets for May 25, 2002. Anyone that is interested in them please stop by and take them with you. The park entrance and parking lot is located at the east end of Boxart Street in the City of Rochester. Parking coordinates are N 42º-13.659' W 77º-37.069'. No clues are needed to find this cache; the trails and the find are very easy. |

Open Log: Personal use only Found this one with a few problems. The coords led me to about 40 feet south of the actual hide. Everything was wet inside and I hid it better to help keep some of this rain water out.

Open Log: Personal use only This has to be the officially creepiest cache I have ever been to. Several factors came into play. I arrived at the parking coordinates at sunset (16:47 or thereabouts.) This is the first cache I ever done "alone" I guess everyone I know is finally sick of caching . So that was a factor as well, I did however bring my Newfoundland Dog , upon entering the woods there was a deer about 25ft in front of Tugs (my dog) and I, yelled "shoo, deer, shoo" and the deer just looked at me like I was crazy! I yelled a little louder "bang! bang!" thinking maybe that would scare it, no dice. So Tugs and I proceeded up the path, the deer ran off, but only about 20 ft back into the woods. As we walked further away I could hear more leaves rustling so I looked back... The deer was still about 20ft away from us as we approached the cache the deer was still following us... I quickly retrieved the cache (which is the biggest container I have ever seen) made my trade, logged in, and stamped the book. I wanted to take a photo of me and my dog with the cache box since it was our first solo flight, I was setting up the timer on the camera and Tugs jumped up.. The deer was closer then ever! So I forgot about the picture, returned the cache, and beat it out of there. Just by the trailhead I turned around for one last look at the deer which was, of course, still following us. I snapped a photo of the deer, but because it is dark you can only see it's eyes. Creepy, creepy, creepy! All of that aside I had a really good time, thanks for the cache!

Open Log: Personal use only This one was very tough. Searched for almost an hour but I finally found it. It was 34' from my 0 co-ord's on my Magellan 330. There was a load of hiding places back there but I'm starting to get good at this. Left Nothing Took Nothing. Nice Hide. 2nd time @ this park. Thought I was going to get Bulock's next but it was raining and getting very dark. I'll be back !

Open Log: Personal use only Nice hiding spot. Hard to get a good position as it was very cloudy and there were so many trees. We have figured out that the secret is not to give up, just keep coming at it from a different angle. Thank You!

Open Log: Personal use only Found with Sean (age 6). He's quite the geocacher, and glad to have a chance to look for one without his older cousins. They always seem to get there first. I'd never been to this park in all the years we've been in Rochester. Walked down to the dock afterwards.. it's quite impressive. Took a rubber snake (Sean was duly impressed), and left a "Beast".

Nice shady walk for a warm day - unfortunately, the local wildlife included two kids on ATVs barrelling through the park. Having avoided them, I found the cache easily and made my trades. The cache is pretty full!

I ventured out without my better half today - but I was joined by 3 of our 4 sons and our dog. It was a very hot day, but cooler in the shade of the woods. The GPS was all over the place at first - thought we needed new batteries, but in the end we just needed to be patient. Enjoyed the park - nice view of the river. Took a little wooden treasure box, left a puzzle ball (with directions). Thanks for the adventure.

Open Log: Personal use only Found the cache with the help of the Sunday hikers from the Genesee Valley chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Nice hiding place. One young woman said that she had gotten a GPS for Christmas but had not yet learned to use it, but that geocaching looked like fun and she thought she might start. That's the idea!

Open Log: Personal use only We had just finished Rattlesnake Pete's cache, and made our way over here. Thought the rating was a little low. I would put it about 1.5/1.5 at least. I am glad I didn't come to look for the cache in my work clothes.

The size of the cache box i found very interesting. Seems to me more of us should put out some boxs that can contain larger cache items like this one. Nice placement also. Thanks for the mini adventure.

Open Log: Personal use only I had a great bunch of kids and adults for the demonstration today. You should have seen the kids faces when they found the box and we opened it up. Had a great hunt, a couple of the younger kids held the GPS and went in the direction it pointed them. I decided to leave the cache in its current location and left a couple of wheresgeorge bills in the log book. Still a lot of prizes, I will return again to put some more water bottles in the cache, they were a hot item.

I found your cache this morning at 9:17 during a brief thunder storm. Your cache is 0.3 mi from my front door. As usual I saw several deer and many species of birds. The dog tooth violets (trout lillies) are growing and I even spotted some trillium breaking through the ground. You chose a great hiding spot. I left my mark in the book and took nothing. A great cache.
