The "Fiaker" is a simple city-cache. Fiaker exist in Vienna since 300 years. How the Fiaker got his name is written down in the following link http://www.wien.gv.at/vtx/vtx-rk-xlink?SEITE=020040730005 (only in German).

The reception at Stage 1 and 2 is rather bad. Although there should be no problems in obtaining the necessary informations. To reach Stage 3 we would recommend to use public transport.

Stage 1 - Die Fiaker:
N1= N 48° 12.542, n1=12542
E1= E 16° 22.377, e1=22377

Wieviele Fiaker dürfen hier stehen? Nenne die Zahl A.

Stage 2 - Moderne Nachfahren:

N2A= N 48° 12.558
E2A= E 16° 22.384

und

N2B= N 48° 12.588
E2B= E 16° 22.423?

Stage 3 - Auch dafür benötigte man früher Pferde:
N3 = 48° n3/1000, n3 = n1 - A*29 - B - 1
E3 = 16° e3/1000, e3 = e1 + A*B*2 - 438

C = 4*x - 1, D = x - 1

Stage 4 - Keine Kutsche und kein Pferd:
N4 = 48° n4/1000, n4 = n3 - C + D
E4 = 16° e4/1000, e4 = e3 - A*(C-D+1)

Hier findest Du zwei Jahreszahlen. Nimm von jeder Jahreszahl die Quersumme. Nenne die erste Quersumme E und die zweite Quersumme F. G= E + F.

Stage 5 - Zuhause:
N5 = 48° n5/1000, n5 = n4 + (B + G)*D + F - D
E5 = 16° e5/1000, e5 = e4 - (A + E + G)*D + C - D - E - G

N6 = 48° n6/1000, n6 = n5 + A + D - G + H
E6 = 16° e6/1000, e6 = e5 - A -D*H - E

Stage 1 - the Fiaker:
N1= N 48° 12.542, n1=12542
E1= E 16° 22.377, e1=22377

How many Fiakers are allowed to park here? Call the number A.

Stage 2 - modern descendants:

What is written on top of the modern descendants of the Fiaker between the follwing coordinates

N2A= N 48° 12.558
E2A= E 16° 22.384

and

N2B= N 48° 12.588
E2B= E 16° 22.423?

Transform the letters of this word into numbers (A=1, B=2, C=3, ...). Add the discovered numbers and call the result B.

Stage 3 - in former times horses were needed here too:
N3 = 48° n3/1000, n3 = n1 - A*29 - B - 1
E3 = 16° e3/1000, e3 = e1 + A*B*2 - 438

You are directly in front of the "main entrance". x is the number of wings the gate has.
C = 4*x - 1, D = x - 1

Stage 4 - no carriage and no horses:
N4 = 48° n4/1000, n4 = n3 - C + D
E4 = 16° e4/1000, e4 = e3 - A*(C-D+1)

Here you will find two dates. Take the sum of the digits of each year. Call the first sum of the digits E and the second F. G= E + F.

Stage 5 - At Home:
N5 = 48° n5/1000, n5 = n4 + (B + G)*D + F - D
E5 = 16° e5/1000, e5 = e4 - (A + E + G)*D + C - D - E - G

Look at the plate, which hah the theme. Count the letters in the second row to get H.

Stage 6 - the Cache:
N6 = 48° n6/1000, n6 = n5 + A + D - G + H
E6 = 16° e6/1000, e6 = e5 - A -D*H - E

It wasn't easy to find a new hideout for a box greater than a micro. But now the cache is with an additional stage online again. Have fun! :)

It seems that cache and hiding place vanished together. I'm afraid the TB is lost, too. I will check the hideout asap and look forward for a new hiding place. Sorry!

First stages already done a few days ago, I used the opportunity to be around in this area to look for the cache today. Found without any problems. As it was snowing everything around is unspeakable wet and dirty, beside of the cache itself, who is in very good condition.
Thanks to bagsj for some interesting facts about Fiaker.

In August I was quite sure that I will never visit this cache again. Today I changed my mind due to a rather unfortunate event. The underground train I was using was not able to move forward because to some fire alarm in another station - so I went off the train and was very close to this cache. Since I knew already from my last visit the hiding place, I went there to have a look whether the number of people beig around would be smaller today. So it was. I was able to get the cache, take it quickly away, log it and bring it back afterwards.

As I already said in my log from April, I do not appreciate the hiding place at all, but that's certainly a matter of taste. The earlier stages of the cache are nicer, however so easy that it is not necessary to visit them.
The cache is in surprisingly good condition and still at its place.

No trade.

I had computed the coordinates of the final cache already at home by using the internet. Although I am not from Vienna, I found it very easy to find the required informations. I was done within 10 minutes including the computations and map views to sanity-check my results.

Today I checked my answers for Stage 4 (which were correct) and went to Stage 5. I am quite sure that I know where the cache is hidden, but I could not try to get it - there were far too many people around.

This cache is not recommendable to visitors of Vienna who cannot come in the early morning or in the night and who get easily frustrated when they have to leave. I was aware of the difficulty to get the cache at the wrong times of the day, but decided to go to Stage 4 and 5 because I have never been in this area of Vienna before.

I do not think that I will give the cache another try at the occasion of another visit in Vienna (provided it still exists at the time) - caches of this type are not very attractive for me. I prefer caches where taking the cache out of the hideout and putting it back is not the main challenge. Moreover, I do not appreciate physical caches in urban hideouts. Personally, I would prefer this cache as a virtual one. The same holds for the Schwarzenbergplatz cache, but I am aware of the fact that many cachers like the thrill associated with caches of this type.

Please do not interpret the lines above as criticism. The mostly positive logs show that there exists an audience for caches of this type. Next time when I am in Vienna and do not have time for caches in the outer districts, I will probably better visit a book store or something the like instead of searching for caches.

Note added:
I forgot to mention that the first 4 stages of the cache are nice although rather easy - I only did not like the last stage as it does not match with my caching preferences. In urban areas, I would prefer virtual caches.

Found it today at 19:15. I was no. 4 today.
The reception was very bad, especially at the first two stages. It don't know if that was because of the building or the people. The city was really crowded. But the build-in map of my GPS helped my to find the locations, they are very straight-forward. Also, the other stages were no real problem. It took me some time to retrieve the cache from the hiding place, because there were a few people around. Altogether it was a nice after-work cache at an area I haven't been that often.

High time to have a look into NaviCache again and log at least the view caches that exist here.
(I think about entering all mine into the system, and if its only to "spoil" some emptied cachemaps *veg* )

Quite surprising hiding-place, I am astonished that it survived that long.

thx, Gavriel
