The GeoRockers salute Jeo of the JeoMc5!

Jeo was searching for one of our caches that was placed in the Sacramento River overflow area, and tried to save another one that he had previously found... while the overflow area was filling!

The water level had increased from ankle deep to knee deep while he was travelling from the first cache to the second cache... and there was still a half mile to travel before getting out of the overflow area. :p

It seemed appropriate to plant another cache in his honor... one that could not be touched by water from the Sacramento River... and in a place which was crying out for a cache placement.

We knew the right place was about 10 miles west of Lovelock, Nevada, about 2 miles to the east of the rest area. :p

This cache should provide a distraction from the drive across Nevada, and if time permits, you may wish to check out the legacy of Lovelock, Nevada.

The cache is a half-gallon, round rubbermaid container.

The original cache contents are:

  • Mini foam football
  • Smiley face greeting card
  • Sun block (SPF 30)
  • Key tag key chain light
  • Hair brush
  • Hair clips (3 sets)
  • T-Shirt iron-on from Cache on a Stick
  • Log book
  • Pen

The coordinates were taken with a Meridian Gold, with 9 birds at full strength and two WAAS birds, auto-averaged for 20 minutes.

Great cache site, makes for a nice break on the road from reno to hell and beyond, we found this with the aid of a compass and a good topo map as we broke our gps while cache hunting in reno the day before, we took the pocket maze and left a key chain flashlight, thank for the fun,
the Cuckoocachers.

GeoCrickets Found It!!

Cache #5 in The GeoCrickets Pre-Op Cache Dash for Richard. This cache was the reason for this whole adventure because George hath taunted us numerous times saying Go for it you guys, I put something there just for Richard to get!
That something was a Cache-On-A-Stick T-shirt transfer. You see, one time when George visited us in Lodi, he noticed that Richard had printed the transfer from that cache but we never could get to it. Then it went M.I.A so we never would be able to go for it so George placed a transfer in this cache to encourage Richard & I to go and *OFFICIALY* get the transfer from a cache. We took him up on his challenge!! We left Monday, stayed over in Reno til Tuesday then after hitting a few other caches, we started driving out to Jeo III. After driving for about an hour & 1/2 in really high winds, we arrived in the cache area.
We found a place to park about 400' from the cache. A guy in a truck with Idaho plates was just sitting there but we weren't worried about him. He left a few minutes after we started our search. I started in one area with Richard checking the other side. I found the cache as he was poking around some rocky area. I called him over and we made our trades. We had picked up 2 Travel Bugs that both were heading east so we had decided to drop them off here. Truckin' too went in and Richard took out the transfer we came ALL this way to get and I left Cirrus the Travel Cat for a puzzle cube.(On 5/5/2002 some cachers who neglected to leave their name but did write in the log book had left the puzzle cube and took the Key Tag KeyChain Light. )
We replaced the cache and got back to the car...it was about 4 pm.

We started back west down I-80 and had gone 25 miles when we had to slow then stop for cars & trucks just sitting on the road. We wondered what was happening, perhaps a truck or car had been overturned by the fierce winds. After waiting 20 minutes (5:10 pm), I got out and walked toward the front of the line of cars. I stopped to ask some people what happened and a lady told me they had caught The MailBox Bomber up ahead. WOW!! I hadn't even heard about this guy but he apparently had been leaving pipe bombs in mail boxes back east and was on the run, heading west!! I trotted back & told Richard. He was as shocked as I was!! We had to wait a total of an hour & 1/2 when a Nevada trooper came by and told us they had the man in custody but his car had explosives in it so we would have to detour. We had to go back east about 18 miles then turn south down 95 to then go back west on 54. This added an extra 2 hrs to our trip. We got back home around 11:30 pm.
We called George the next day (after Richard's surgery, which went very well)
and told him our story...all he could say was, *Every time you guys go caching, you end up with some adventure to tell!!* Yup, that's us!!

Thanks GeoRockers for another chance for weird adventures!!
Da' GeoCrickets
