| Knockemstiff, Ohio. That’s right, It is a real place. This quiet little ohio town is tucked away in the outskirts of Ross County. While most places have obvious names like Indiana, Circleville, & Portsmouth, one might wonder how Knockemstiff got its peculiar name. There are many traditions explaining the origion of the name. One interesting story explains that a local resident asked her preacher how she could get her husband to stop cheating on her, the preacher simply replied “Knockemstiff”. The most common explanation is that the town takes its name from one of the many slang terms used for moonshine. Southern Ohio was a major producer of bootlegged liquor in the early part of the 20th century. Of course, nothing like that goes on today. ??? |
