There's more than pirate treasure on Raccoon Island -- or is there? Around the turn of the century, a prospector thought that there might be blue diamonds on Raccoon Island.

Needless to say, Racoon Island was not host to blue diamonds or any other colour of diamonds for that matter. In fact, mostly what you'll find on Racoon Island is a lot of rock. Hard gray rock -- but no diamonds.

On your way from the northwest end of the island, you'll come across at least two large square holes in the rock -- these are locations where the hapless miner was looking for those elusive diamonds (there are four such holes on the island).

The cache is a small camo-painted Lock & Lock container that is well hidden in some shrubery at the intersection of two footpaths. The cache contains only a logbook and pencil -- there is no need to trade. If you do decide to leave a trade item, please make certain that it is small enough that it does not inhibit the lid of the container from sealing properly.

You will have to access Raccoon Island at the northwest end of the island (N49 20.482 W122 54.275) but beware -- the rocky beach all but disappears at high tide so make sure that you either tie your boat securely or drag it up the beach so that the incoming tide doesn't take it away while you're looking for the cache.

If you don't have your own boat, canoe and kayak rentals are available at Deep Cove. Small power boats may be able to access the beach but it is doubtful that larger boats will be able.

Have fun and enjoy your journey to Racoon Island!
