Located on abandoned Moffat Railroad in Arapaho Nat. Forest, altitude: 11486 feet. Difficult climb to site. Do not attempt Mid-Oct. thru Mid-June or in severe weather.

You are looking for a green ammo box hidden in the area of the Needle's Eye railroad tunnel that was abandoned in 1928. This cache is accessible from either side of the continental divide via the Moffat Road.
From the west, it is about a 45 minute walk from the Rollins (Corona) Pass parking area. If you have a four wheel vehicle, you can get closer to the area of the cache but will miss some of the sights along the old rail grade. On foot from the west, you will need to cross some old wooden trestles with dropoffs of several hundred feet, so be very careful. The final climb over the loose rock field can be dangerous if you are not surefooted, but my 11 and 15 year old made it without difficulty.

If you have time, stop at the visitors center in Fraser or Winter Park and pick up the brochure that explains more about the old Moffat Road and its history as the first railroad over the continental divide in this area. It was opened in 1904 and abandoned in 1928 when the 6.2 mile long Moffat tunnel was completed through the mountain.

I did not find this cache. I am looking for a Travel Bug named Captain von Trapp that was placed in this cache some time ago. He started out in Maine, and we're just curious about where he might be now. Would appreciate any help or info about the Captain. Thanks.
