This cache is inside
a cave.
It requires an
able-bodied soul who can climb to reach it. Bring Flashlights! The cache itself is large, and full
of much-nicer-than-the-usual-kid-stuff items. Very close by is a great big
balancing rock that you can climb under.

There are 3 suggested routes to the Umbrella Rock area. All parking areas are
accessed from route 322.

The first is to park at N 41*18.913 W079*38.923. This is the longest, but
easiest walk. (2 miles along an old railroad grade) I recommend this option.

The shortest but most difficult walk is from parking area N41*18.132
W079*37.173. Here you park along the highway at the roadcut, and bushwhack in. Band-Aids are available at the cache for those who choose this option

An in-between option would be to park back the road at N41*18.294 W079*37.506.

During the warmer months, the cave entrance will very likely be obscured by the
very large ferns in the area. It is about 10 feet back from the top edge of the
cliff. Be careful up there. Cave is not very big, and you won't get lost in
there.

Use caution climbing over the large boulders. They are covered with a thick
blanket of moss. You will need some climbing skills to get underneath Umbrella
Rock itself, and even more skill to get on top. (good luck)

This place is very lush in summertime. The moss is very thick and covers
everything. Please climb around carefully so we dont peel it off.

Out grabbing a couple of caches with Nessie247 and Evil Benchmark Hater.

This was second of two caches I had on the list for the day. We headed right here after spendibg a while at Freedom Falls. We opted for the "shortest but most difficult" approach to the cache. We parked along 322 and headed off into the woods. It was pretty easy going up to the power lines but the terrain got tricker after that. We all ended up making it through with no injuries. I did get a spider in my eye while bushwacking in to the cache location but nothing too serious.

We made it to what we figured to be ground zero and then EBH found where he thought we had to go to find the cache. I set my backpack down fished around for a flashlight to issue to Nessie and my headlamp. Then we headed down below the ground. EBH thought there may be another lower entrance to the cave and took off to look for it while we started searching from the top down. Many spiders, crickets, and other cave dwelling insects were encountered along the way.

We eventually found the cache but we yelled back up to EBH that we needed help. No answer so we went on farther to try and meet him at a lower entrance if there was one. It turned out that there was not so we headed back to the cache and yelled up to him again. He was back up top so he came down into the cave a bit. We got the cache and realized that nobody had brought a pen down so we sent EBH back out to the backpacks above ground to get one. I believe he hit his head on a rock on the way. We finally got the log signed and the cache back into place.

No trade but I did remove the candy.

TFTC - Great Hide.

Team Rambo consisted of Russell, Don, Bruce, and first time cacher Richy Today. Russell and I wanted to do this the last time we were up this way. We camp about 23 miles (as the crow flys) from here in the Allegehney National Forest. Good thing we saved it for this trip. We brought two more along for this awesome cache! This was the first time I had to go in a cave to get a cache. All four of us were down in the cave to open the cache!
