WARNING: Be sure to know your limits. This Cache is for adults only and can be considered an "Extreme Cache" due to it's location.
Steep terrain, falling rock zone, high over hangs (depending on the route you take), adults only An Inukshuk- Inuksuk- Inuksuit is a tower or pile of rocks usually found in the Artic parts. The Inukshuk serves as both a marker for important sites and as a sign post on a trail through the wasteland. "May the Inukshuk be your guide for a safe journey throughout life`s travels". People of both land and sea used markers since ancient times. They created or observed sign posts which would make future journeys along known routes simplier, safer or more meaningful. Marks in our culture today, include scarecrows, traffic lights and statues; each one brings us a particular message. The Inuit called their marks Inukshuk, which means "thing that can act in place of a human being. * Showing the way to travelers * Warning of dangerous places * Showing where food was stored (especially when covered with snow) * Showing where an important event happened; so that people would be respectful * to help hunt caribou * to act as a message center Many Inukshuk together were used to heard caribous to a certain location for the kill and were called Nalluni. The Inuit also have other words to describe Inukshuk with other specific purposes. Inukshuk are made of locally available material like stone. They are choosen an placed so that its message will be clear and will endure the harsh climate of the North. To get to the "Valley of the Inukshuk" and the cache go to Maplewood park. Use the steep path that fishermen use to access the river, it puts you down by the Old Glen House ruins. Another method is to angle yourself across the embankment from Maplewood park and slowly desend the way old Buell Avenue did, down to Kelsey`s landing. The walls that still exist fairly high on the embankment with dirt behind them are some of the old ruins of the Buell Avenue road. One of the blue historic markers in Maplewood mentions this road and landing. It also tells us this was the end of the Underground Railroad where runaway slaves boarded Canadian vessels for "Freedom" in Canada. A short distance before you reach the Veterans bridge and across from Carthage landing on the East side of the river will be the location of this old landing (Kelsey`s). When you get to the cache area you will see several Inukshuk that i built. You are invite to build your own Inukshuk for an event, friend, love one, or just because they are fun to build. Remember Inukshuk can be as small or as large as you like. Please only build them in the "Valley Of The Inukshuk" so that they don`t interfer with deer run areas or where people walk. The cache is located "right" at the base of the falls (left side) under a rock ledge. It has a large flate slate rock on edge covering the cache. The cache contains various goodies from the dollar store and other novelties. Please be sure to sign the log and log it on this site as well, when you get home. Open Log: Personal use only Daughter and I ventured to do this one together. Displaced a wild turkey when we got to the valley. Not much evidence of Inukshuks, however. Some piles that might have been once, but since dismantled? Cache was well camoflaged but we found it. And then we had an Inukshuk building contest! Scrambled up the hill just before dusk settled in.

While looking for Wheelygood's "Beyond Lower Falls" cache I stopped by to find it. I was the only one in the group that hadn't found this one yet. I've been nearby before with other groups, but never made it down.

I parked about 400 feet from the cache and then cursed myself for forgetting to bring rope.
I was sure I could get down that way (gravity usually helps) but I wasn't sure I could get back up so I ended up hiking in along the river. There were big fat squirrels everywhere.
I came across a recently dead 10 point buck that looked like he had swum across to escape something. I have his coords if anyone is desperate for a trophy....
As I got close, I heard kids yelling back and forth in the woods so I signed the log book quickly and left.
Great hide and thanks for the workout - the hike was only about 2 miles but felt like 5!

Open Log: Personal use only Certainly plenty of hiding places, but the description given was perfect. We did this one after The Glen House cache, so we took the longer but less treacherous route in. Great spot, with a unique character. Took some gum for Lima Bean, and left a keychain flashlight.

Our GPS receivers were acting somewhat challenged by the gorge walls. I traded nothing. We left an inukshuk of our own. Thanks for the fun.

This cache is a new favorite. I'll have to bring back more Team members another time we'll walk down from up river. Tonight I took a shortcut over the edge from just about directly above. Very pretty area with the unique rock out croppings. Did not take the time to build my own inukshuk and forgot my camera. Oh well, guess I'll have to come back.

Note: The ragging Genesee evidently sweep away the original cache box. These new coordiates and box are located a fair distance from where the old box was. The cache is now located right in the Valley of the "Inukshuk" near the base of the falls.

Open Log: Personal use only Me, my bro and a few new and old cachers went all out after this one. We always enjoy a challenge. Think we went down and up about the hardest way possible. Had a few chills on the way back up, but all in all it wasn't too bad. Also climbed around like a monkey for awhile before finally discovering cache, my bro took a statue to add to his dollar store collection, we left some waterproof matches and a hand warmer. Also exchanged one WG bill.

I found it eventually! Rippie, your email with hints to find it, totally messed me up. I climbed all over that tree like a monkey without any luck! I ended up reading the cache description again, and found it with in 30 seconds. My GPS units were bouncing all over the place down there, but people should be able to find it using the description of the location.
