Outside Monroe NY we get to hike this area while the hunters are busy shooting Bambi and other passing by.... Go see these fall leaves turning while they last. Welcome to the Dennis Hopper’s hitchhiking to New Mexico Cache!! The name of this cache will have no bearing as soon as he gets his lift to the Land of Enchantment. Don’t forget to take his log sheet to enter his travel notes. Some of the toys and goodies include (true to New Mexico form…) a package of pastels in which you can enter your scribbles in the logbook. The fall colors are at a beautiful peak this week. More goodies … Incense stone, incense and a lighter, Home Depot Values Pin, (go ahead, wear it at Home Depot!!) A pair of bicycle reflectors (red and White), a ‘trick eye’, a key clip, key rings and a quick connect key ring. Planning a Vacation in the direction of New Mexico? Why not pick up a hitchhiker that doesn’t eat, drink, belch, sleep, snore or tell bad jokes for hours. Let me introduce you to Mr. Dennis Hopper of ‘Easy Rider’ fame. He’s going to Santa Fe to give my family a note from New York. Your best parking is at n41 19.134 w074 15.462 An alternate entry point is at n 41 20.733 W74 13.56.This is the long walk. Deva and I take these bike or hike trips to see the countryside. A trip is not complete without the requisite diversions into the woods to see the trees. There is an awesome foot or bike trail that is only .86 miles long. If you start at the secondary parking spot enter this bike trail at n 41 20.362 w74 14.192. You will exit at n 41 20.117 w74 14.394 . If you should need emergency shelter from a storm, have this marked on your map. It’s an old concrete building and it looks like the kids like to build small fires in there and tell ghost stories, The location is n41 19.534 w74 15.032. |

Wow! Is all of December going to be like today? Sunny and warm. No cold wind. Didn't even need a jacket all day. Arrived in the morning and parked at the trailhead on Laroe Ave. (Enough parking for 2 or 3 vehicles.) For some reason, this trail appears as Lazy Hill Rd on my street map. Cache was about 0.5 mi away. A very nice easy walk. Thought the off-trail area would be muddy but it wasn't. Saw the cache right away. Another great big shoebox cache. Signed the log book and sketched a picture of the bridge area with the supplied pastels. Looks like a lot of visitors had fun with the art. Also seems that there have been one or two who found the cache by accident. Took a keychain. Left some Where's George (http://www.wheresgeorge.com) dollar bills. Thanks.
