Bastrop/Buescher State Parks lie in the heart of the Lost Pines, an isolated stand of tall loblolly pines in Central Texas. Most of the park's strikingly beautiful facilities were constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, including 13 rustic cabins that overlook a small lake -tpwd.
Hidden in the lost pines of Texas you will find 3 clues to get you to the final cache! Plan on spending an entire day if you get an 'early' start - pack a picnic or make a weekend of it to include camping - it's worth it! $3. per person entry fee unless of course you have a Texas Conservation Passport. Good luck and happy caching! A most sincere THANK YOU to Eoghan for his help with coordinates! |

Well, I finally found my round tuit so I couldn't put off exploring Bastrop State Park any longer. I didn't get away from the house until after noon and it was 1:30 before I got to the park and bought an orienteering map. Say, this looks interesting - there are 100 markers scattered all over this park for people to wander around and try to find - sound familiar? At least the orienteering markers aren't devilishly hidden under rocks or pine needles like what the Pumpkin Princess has done for us! I got to the area of the first stage fairly quickly but spent probably 20 minutes scruffing around the fallen trees and such before finding the Tupperware. Same story for stage two. Stage three was nearby so I headed straight there on foot. After reading Scruffy's account of stage three I was prepared for a grand search but I stumbled onto the cache after only a couple minutes. It was just luck, I think, because PP found a great spot for the container! The next stage was quite a ways away so I bushwacked back to the car, it would have been quite a walk if I had stayed on the trails. The final stage is the furthest one off the trail and is in a remote and little visited part of the trail system of the two state parks. I really enjoyed sitting down and looking through all the treasures in the container and reading the log book is this very quiet and peaceful place. Really, with the exception of the area near the very first stage, you are cut off from traffic noise for most of this entire hunt. This is an excellent park for geocaching and just exploring the area.
