The Cache is located on the grounds of the abandoned Oppenheim Zoo (closed in 1988) inside Oppenheim County Park, part of the Niagara County Parks System. A short description of the park:

Oppenheim County Park & Zoo is 75.0 acre county owned developed for multiple use park in the Town of Wheatfield in Niagara County .

Oppenheim Park, located off Niagara Falls Boulevard, is an open space park featuring a man-made pond for fishing and relaxing. Its long entrance, leads to a quiet, spacious park including volleyball nets, a playground, a wading pool and numerous picnic tables for visitors planning on spending the day or a few hours.

The Oppenheim Zoo society still claims they are going to re-open the zoo, on a small billboard on Niagara Falls Boulevard, and on this website, which has an interesting history of the zoo: Oppenheim Zoological Society

Park on the grass by the pond near the park entrance (you can't miss it, see the photo).

The cache is a small (1.2 quart) Rubbermaid container, and it's contents are mostly a zoo theme, Rubber Snakes, bugs, and horses, and several dollar store items. If intending to trade, think small.

Terrain rated 1.5 only for heavy weed growth in the summer. The cache is well protected, and should be winter accessable.

Originally a super easy cache that some people have admitted driving right up to (don't do it, park at the Pond), so I upped the difficulty by removing the hint.

Well Mr.Urkel... after striking out at your first two caches earlier in the day, I had to stop by on finally find this one! I've passed by here many times and have always said "Someday I'll find Urk's cache there!" I'm glad I was able to find it, but with the standard HB twist. Just as I found the cache I noticed a muggle sitting on a golf-cart about 25 feet away. I didn't know if he saw me or not, so I non-chalantly swung out the phone and grabbed the cache and did the ole "cellphone trick" and also walked with the cache back to the car. Eventually, I saw the muggle in the golfcart drive away and I proceeded back to return the cache. After further inspection, I figured he must have been a park groundskeeper because there is a really old garage about 50 feet from the cache. Thanks Urkel for this great cache - and your very first!

If you read the last few days of my cache logs you may not believe it...but I truly mean it when I say it's nice to be back in New York and caching again. And what better way to return to WNY then by doing an Urkel cache! (And yes I mean that too....hehe. )

Chicky and I were at the Air Force base attending a going away party for Chicky's mom (who will be moving to Arizona...and yes I've already scoped out the availability of caches there...hehe). On our way back we decided to hit up some of the local caches and started with Oppenheim. This is such a nice little park! It was hopping today but luckily for us the two caches within the park are far enough secluded that we didn't have much to worry about as far as muggles go.

When we found this cache we also met the local mosquito population (but I SWEAR that anything NY can conjure up is weak compared to them big ugly Alaskan monsters! Yipes!!!) Funny story, in Alaska they call skeeter spray, bug dope...and if it isn't 40+% deet...you're a dead man. Haha. You practically have to shower in the stuff...

So after quickly signing the log we were off on our way to enjoy more wonderful NY caches.

We utilized the 4wd to park nearby on the old zoo roads on this rainy Saturday afternoon. Exchange an magnifying glass and dice for an antenna topper.

Found on 04/08/04
Teamed up with **floorestius** today, for some, long awaited, caching along the Niagara River. We picked a nice day, the sun was shining and the wind was down. This was our 6th of 7 today. It was a slight detour from the river. Cache is in good shape, and over stuffed. I needed to take large items out, to close cover. Signed log. Thanks for the hide. Strikeforce1 **out-and-about**.
