The Romans are said to have built a 'castrum' (an army camp) on this plate between Maas and Jeker, near Roman transport routes and near the towns Tongeren and Maastricht.
From 'castrum' derived the name of the plate: Caestert. The camp changed into the Castle of Caestert.
This castle was finally destroyed in 1972 by a fire.

Park your car at N 50° 48.360' E 005° 41.397'.

Now take the right way up: it will lead you along the 'Wall of Caestert', through a bridge and to the old farm, the only building that remained from the ancient Castle of Caestert.

Admire the building, look into the valley west of the plate and do not forget to note the year (ABCD) given at the entrance of the farm area.

At N 50° 48.(301+ABC)' E 005° 41.(985-BCD)' you will find the cache (a very small box).

If you are going to search for all Caestert caches we would propose to visit them in this order:
1. Lost Castle, 2. Cut here! 3. Lost Valley.

The third one for today and the first one of the Castert-tour. Thanks for this cache. I think, I would not be here if not for geocaching. And that would be a pity. A nice walk through an interesting area. (Subsequent NC log)

The Caestert ridge is a really interesting location, through which you are nicely guided if you follow the Caestert trilogy. The Lost Castle is the first of them, a gentle start... Many thanks to Captain Cook for the cache and the info about the location.
TNLNSL, best regards,

PS: The logbook will be full soon.

Oh Captain, you are so good to us, placing two new caches in a wounderful area. We really did enjoy the little walk and had lots of fun in Team with Stapper and Walking Eagle.
