Lake Poway is a stocked lake meaning that the fish don't breed fast enough for the number of fishermen who frequent its shores that it requires a constant influx of live fish to satisfy this sport. Although not a fan of fishing, I think it's great there is a lake nearby that affords this opportunity to its community.
The trailhead for this 3-mile hike culminating in a very steep climb of better than 340 feet is located at a sign inscribed with the words "Warren Canyon Trail" though I am not exactly quite sure what constitutes this trail which leads directly into the Lake Poway Trail whose actual trailhead is a bit south and east of this first waypoint near the fish cleaning area. You could begin there as well and pass by the dock as you start around the lake.
The Warren Canyon trailhead is more hidden and probably less known, so I chose it to begin this hike. Another sign near this trailhead displays distances to various points in the parks. Refer to this sign when determining the next waypoint.

You can make your way into the Blue Sky Reserve at this intersection as the sign here attests. Use the info provided on the sign for the next waypoint.

At this waypoint stands another sign with distances to perhaps ten locations. But only two of these distances are necessary for the waypoint that follows.

At this location is a plaque attached to a utilitarian memorial. This will provide clues to the actual cache location!

The cache, which is a camouflaged ammo can about 12" x 4" x 7", is located at the end of an overgrown trail. In my opinon, very little bushwhacking is involved. A purist might disagree. Either way, if you can't locate it within ten minutes or so, please refer to the hint.
To return to your car, head back the way you came until you get to the narrow signpost at a fairly large intersection. Turn left and follow that trail into the park. Follow your GPS to the starting coordinates. Good luck!
